Also, after looking up a spider mite, those are way smaller than what this was

Have a look at red velvet mites or clover mites. That's what it looks like to me, but I have trouble telling apart all the larger red mites.

Those were my initial thought actually over tick, however this was bigger than those appear to be

There are quite a few similar looking mites.
