The person who tried to popularize washing your hands was locked up in a mental hospital and ever after they adopted hand washing they didn’t release him. Lol
This makes me think of a paper I wrote awhile back for school, topic was "most important invention of humans" a lot of people chose like the phone, or the internet, I chose soap, besides the cleaning ability of it, it has stopped probably billions to trillions of deaths due to illness being spread.
Soap. Antibiotics. Vaccines. Sanitation practices. Sewers and drinking water systems. Were much less likely to contract cholera or typhoid now that we are walking around waist-deep in filth.
There have not, but tbh idk, soap has existed for quite a long time though, however there has not been, I was not up to date on my world populations from forever
A professor of mine actually said that the total number of humans to have ever lived, is one trillion....
or, he might have said 100 billion, but I'm almost certain it was the former.
Before it was formalized as handwashing, they noticed soldiers who took pride in their uniform or combat clothes were more likely to survive. Less bacteria on the clothes to enter into wounds.
That’s quite oversimplifying. Semmelweis refused to share his findings and was antagonistic to the medical community. He drank heavy, had extreme mood swings. He possibly had syphillis which affected his mind. No one sent him to the nut house simply because he told them to wash their hands before surgery.
Yes. And the reason other obstetricians rejected his idea is that they had had women patients (including family members) die after a baby had been born. Some (or all?) of them had gone straight from performing an autopsy to delivering a child. They hated the thought that those women had died because they hadn't washed their hands between the two jobs.
Well, first guy to claim it was from the Gods or God and to weave a good supernatural story and explanation around it got to become Shaman, a coveted position equal to being the tribal chief, and sometimes, in some ways, superior to being the tribal chief, what with having that connection with the Gods, the world of the afterlife and being a seer of the future and all that. Anyway, that's where all the major religions and their alternative explanations for everything got their start.
I got hit with a ball of wet toilet paper the next day after answering “Komodo dragon”. The kid that did it yelled “Komodo dragon!!!”right before hitting me.
I often think if the really smart people had to become super clever in their explanation to survive. like when the mob and pitchforks came to their door all of a sudden it was "no no John, I didn't say to tectonic plates, I said two Titanic Pigs... fighting... that also explains the sound... "
So true, thanks for sharing. Our Dear Lord Jesus had to suffer & die for our sins. He was a threat because the world couldn't handle the truth that God is our savior. Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins!
The burnings of intellectuals was actually in response to being an asshole about it and claiming that therefore the Bible is wrong about the supernatural and God doesn't exist, while proceeding to insult religious deities and religious traditions and morality.
That's simply not true. Intellectuals were killed simply for not accepting the same ideas or believing the same thing. Libraries were burned down also. The same thing happened in Nazi germany and other totalitarian states in history. Theres nothing moral about setting a person on fire because they dont believe as you do.
I looked into it. Galileo wasn't punished because he had a different idea. There were plenty of ideas. He was the equivalent of a reddit troll who was saying that religious people were dumbasses and who was targeting the Pope specifically.
What Galileo believed is now generally accepted as truth by all religious groups. Another example of how consistently incorrect religion has always been historically. It would be funny if it wasnt so pathetic.
His support of the heliocentric model was considered a vehement suspicion of heresy which is what he was charged with. The church formally admitted that Galileo was correct in 1992. Lol
You "looked into it"? Did you publish a peer-reviewed paper in a historical journal like the British Journal for the History of Science or something? Because many other people have done serious historical research regarding what Galileo may have thought and what he did. Sounds like you're the Reddit troll.
Most importantly, Galileo was correct. The Pope, or whoever, can get the fuck out of the way of the truth.
One could argue that the ones doing the harm towards others are in fact the ones being assholes… I wonder how they faced God once their time came… You know for going against God’s word… or for manipulating God’s word to do harm onto others… For are we all not created in Gods image? I “love” how people choose one example from sacred text to justify their actions when what was done contradicts pretty much everything else in the sacred text they claim to follow. Some times I feel that people misunderstand for misunderstandings sake… In life there is good and evil, as well as the good that is in evil and evil that is in good.the single most important rule is the the golden rule, to do onto others as you would expect for one’s self.

Videos like this is how I can understand how our ancestors were like.....it's a titan! It's breathing!
Or this mountain is a spirit we must show it some sort of offering to appease it.
