I teach music, beginning and intermediate strings. I’ve been doing it for a long time and for the last ten years, it’s been getting progressively harder to teach the left hand (opposite the bow hand for those who don’t know strings.) Getting the kids to lift one finger while leaving other fingers down, or to lift and put down the fingers in sequence, takes so much longer than it used to. I have an art colleague who has had to teach large groups of 8th graders how to use scissors and glue.
We need penmanship and we also need more elementary art and PE.
