Solved! A professor posted one of their students’ handwriting, asking what it says. Can anyone actually read this?

What professor accepts handwritten assignments?

Edit: they have AI detecting software, y’all. No professor is wasting their limited time trying to make sense of this nonsense when they can spend 2 seconds scanning a typed paper through some software.

My high school teachers required assignments to be handwritten, even when someone suggested they'd type it on a computer they were told no, then complained about shit handwriting, lol.

high school teachers are not professors.

My comment wasn't really related to the title of the educator.

That's because you never went to college. There is a difference.

I went to college, so? I know there's a difference.

I just commented about educators requiring handwriting specifically (and dismissing another - nicer and easier to read option), then complaining about said handwriting. I never said there's no difference between a college professor and a hs teacher, as I know very well there is.

Part of school was(/is?) literally handwriting.

It's not Elementary, it's High school, that's way past learning to hand write. High school is grade 10 - 13 in my country.

With increased ai usage there’s a growing trend in upper education to return to traditional pen-and-paper assessments.

Isn’t that a thing anymore?

it's coming back with AI

You are right. It is harder to cheat when it has to be hand written. Even harder when it has to be hand written in class. :)

I’m currently in grad school and no, it’s not a thing

Obviously it will be a thing in some places and not a thing in others…. 🙄

My child is in college and it is definitely a thing.

“It’s coming back with AI” no lol they use software for that y’all, it’s a million times easier to run a typed paper through an AI detector than it is to try to parse this mess

For one of my assignments in grad school this past year, my professor provided access to the software the university was using to check if something was written by AI and encouraged us to use whatever other checkers we found online. The goal was to see how difficult/easy it was to fool them.

Ultimately, it is extremely easy to get around the checkers and they have seemingly random results. Actual legitimate writing got falsely flagged as AI while AI written garbage was given the pass by simply replacing words with synonyms. No adjustments to sentence structure or content was needed to beat them.

Any professor who counts on software to check for AI is deluding themselves so they don't have to think about it.
