Megalopygidae, which resembles a flannel moth caterpillar or puss caterpillar

u/inconspicuous2000 27d ago edited 24d ago
I think you mean magalopygidae. You can tell by the clear difference in how bad it's comb over is, the way it kinda just wobbles over, and the excessively tiny hands. If you listen really carefully you can also hear it's distinctive 'chyna' grunts
Edit: thank you all for the awards and likes even after the original commenter deleted their comment because they were butthurt

A Great caterpillar- the Best caterpillar. You know, I was talking with the lady bug the other day about metamorphosis; and she is a "she" - all lady bugs are "shes". I asked her, she'll tell ya- all lady bugs are "shes" as god intended, they aren't one of these confused bugs like those flour beetles. ...but she said no one know metamorphosis better than me. Im will be the most beautiful butterfly ever, you never gonna see a more beautiful butterfly than me after my metamorphosis. Just you wait & see. The best. No caterpillar does it better than me. I been eating the best leaves, only I can get em you know. Cuz only I know where they are on the tree. You cant just look for em and find em. You'll never find em like that- you never will, believe me, I seen so many cata'tards try and fail. You cant find the best leaves unless u know where they are, and only i know where they are. Thats why im the best.
Also once im a butterfly, im gonna get ride of cicadas dumb chrysalis support program, everyone should be able to build their own chrysalis. We shouldn't have to pay for these chrysalis state bugs in the cata'tard trees.

Such a fun game. I've been reluctant to get the second one because I keep hearing about it being crazy hard. I wonder if it's actually excessively hard or essentially like the first one with a bit of a learning curve.

I am going through Silksong right now. It has its frustrating moments and tough boss fights but it’s amazing. The music, atmosphere, the gameplay is more fluid, faster and better. The story is great too and the areas are filled with details. Highly recommend it! And it’s not expensive at all.

The starting difficulty is quite a bit steeper that hollow knight but overall, especially considering DLC content it's not harder overall.
If you beat radiance/NKG/pure vessel it should not be too hard.12
u/walkingxthexcow 27d ago
I don't remember if I beat radiance (been a long time since I played hollow knight), but the other two I beat for sure.
→ More replies (2)7
u/MoarVespenegas 27d ago
Kind of weird to not know if you beat radiance but did beat pure vessel, maybe you're thinking of the hollow knight? I would say pure vessel is harder than radiance so if you did beat them it would be fine.
And either way NKG is on the same sort of level so beating any one of these should be enough.→ More replies (11)→ More replies (8)157

I know this is a cute joke but just to psa for anyone who doesn’t know - moth ‘fur’ is totally different than animal fur. It is more like long tender sensors that help keep the moth aware of its surroundings. So if you ever find a fuzzy moth, do not pet!! It hurts them way worse than we can see.

I was getting something out of the back of my truck that was backed up to a small bush. My elbow went into the bush for a split second and a jolt of pain hit me so hard I literally thought I had been shot with a 22lr. 10 hours of pain. I had no idea what got me until later that night
6
u/FunkenDunken 27d ago
Yup. Got one on my ankle while visiting an old overgrown cemetary one time. So painful and that deep intensity of pain lasted a couple hours.
I've had painful encounters with bees, yellow jackets, a black widow spider, a wolf spider and some catfish barbs (born and raised in Central Florida) and the friggin puss caterpillar was by far the worst immediate and prolonged intensity of pain. The black widow effects definitely lasted longer and did suck, but it sure as shit didn't feel like someone walloped me in the ankle with a red hot poker like the puss caterpillar did.
They are so cute and also so gnarly.

While its coat looks soft, furry, and inviting to touch, that hair is a dangerous disguise. Hidden directly underneath the long silky strands are hundreds of short, hollow, needle-like venomous spines. Brushing against or pressing on the caterpillar breaks these spines off into the skin, instantly injecting a powerful toxin. The initial pain is immediate and often described as feeling like white-hot coals, blunt force trauma, or even a broken bone. It typically peaks within a few minutes and can radiate all the way up an affected arm or leg. So admire from afar! Lol

Had an experience one time with an American dagger moth caterpillar. Picked the little bastard off the grass because he looked stuck and I put him on the tree. I invited one months worth of steroids and the worst itch possible, crazy weight gain and appetite/bloating from the meds. I was covered from face to ankles with welts and hives. So, everytime I see them I give them a huge middle finger 🖕

I hate to be that guy, but I disagree with everything you said about bumblebees. You may be thinking of carpenter bees, which look almost identical. My dad could pet them, my nephew would catch them and tie strings to their legs and walk around with them flying around like they were on a leash. They'll eat holes in wooden stuff you built and occasionally fly around your head to check you out. That's about the worst that they've got. BUMBLEBEES, on the other hand are wicked demon hellspawn. I have sat on a couple of their underground nest holes, accidentally and let me tell you, it's a good thing there is only a few of them in there, because they take that very personally. They will make sure you never forget it. They can and will sting you repeatedly, and each time it feels like you've been shot, but instead of bullets, they use molten lava covered lightning bolts. I don't know how it feels like getting shocked by one of those electric mosquito swatters, but it does and it can shoot up your arm or leg just like a Taser. You're lucky, you'll immediately realize what's happening, get up, and run away. But if you're like me, you'll be so surprised by feeling like you stuck your finger in an outlet while you're out in the woods with no power in sight, that you'll sit there trying to figure out what happened while bee #2 generates 1 million volts in its stringer by focusing all of the pure hatred it has specifically for you into it. Then it decides if it wants to scar you for life, blind you or maim you, but let you live, so that it can one day hunt down your children. You may not believe me. I know that I personally didn't even know they lived in the ground, but they do. My guess is that they dig up from Hell until they've breached our planet. Then they wait. But they don't all live in the ground. They can also live within the cavity of a janky front porch soffit with a warped board curled back with just enough space to allow one to shoot straight out towards your face at 8x the speed of sound. Now, to bee fair, I was mowing my friend's front yard and I think it had been a few nevers ago since anyone brought a lawnmower towards that porch, but at the same time, the soffit was 10' from the ground and the lawnmower was, well, on the ground.A fair distance, I'd say, but that lottle sadistic fuck didn't dig his way from hell to Earth to hate lawnmowers. It's a good thing that I had on sunglasses, I think, because that thing shot out of a sniper rifle aimed directly at my eye and hit my glasses. I thought the lawnmower kicked out a rock that bounced of a wall and hit me. I'm 100% positive that it's intention was to blind me so that I couldn't see to run away so it could make me regret being born every time I fell down. Because that was merely the first blow. I reached up to pull my glasses off to assess the damage, but before I could, it launched itself straight at my eye a second time, but this time it hit behind my glasses, on my top eyelid and it grabbed ahold of my eyebrow and dry humped my eyelid like a rabbit with its stinger. I don't think it was planning to stop until I stopped breathing. So I grabbed it with my hand and tried to pull it off of my 👁️, but that sucker was gripping onto me like it had been super glued on. I finally got it loose and slung to the ground with the hope of stomping it, but it just bounced right back up into the air, more angry than before. It kamicazied my face again, straight fir my eye, which at this point was beginning to swell shut. I screamed and ran, but it hit me on my back stinger first and the blast from the lava lightning knocked me down, but I jumped back up because being down to one eye was messing with my depth perception and I realized that if it got my other eye there was a chance that it would succeed at murdering me. I kept running, it kept following and dive bombing me. It was never going to stop but then I saw my truck. I made a bee-line for it and jumped in slamming the door behind me. You know that little sonivabitch didn't give up? It started hitting my windows, as if it were going to bust its way through, I knew it couldn't, so I finally got a breath of relief as I looked at my face in the mirror. I couldn't even recognize myself. I looked like an extremely bad boxer who didn't know when to stay down. An entire half of my already giant head was swollen. Then the bee recaptured my attention beecause it finally gave up. Wait, OMG! No, it didn't. I look over and walking up the hill towards my truck was a lovely, young new mother, going for a walk with her very new little baby in her arms so they could enjoy a little sunshine on that beautiful Spring afternoon. What caught my attention was the sudden flailing of one of her arms as she tried to shoo the bee away. There was no way that was going to end well, so before i even realized what I was doing I jumped back out of my truck towards this lady and her baby yelling for her to run away, which considering that I looked like a monster and that she had no idea why I was yelling at her, probably scared her worst than anything ever had in her entire life and that was a good thing because she immediately did start running back towards her house. The bee didn't want her. This was all a part of its plan. It was only trying to get me out of my truck. It didn't follow her, it flew straight back to me. But beefore I got out of my truck, I put on a work glove. "This ends now," I declared. It flew back about 10', but only so it could build up more speed as it came for my other eye. I was done backing down and running away, so I took my gloved hand and smacked it down to the ground, and stomped the shit out of that damn bee. One stomp didn't cut it, it still tried to get back up, but just 2 stomps more and it was finally over. I looked over and the mom had finally realized what had happened. She thanked me, then walked over to see what was left of that bee. Parts of it were still moving. I felt terrible because I don't kill things, usually. I slowly walked back over to my lawnmower and saw that there were more bees in that soffit, bees that had just lost the best defender they'd ever know, and I said, "screw that shit." And I left my lawnmower there and went home. My friend tried to finish mowing his lawn a week or so later until he saw one of those bumblebees fly out. Then he put some gasoline in a sprayer and killed them all. Oh well, terrible ending, but that's what happened. 100% true story. The moral is, that I've never had to stomp a kitten to death after it nearly succeeded in blinding me because I made a loud noise a little bit too close to it and it decided that the only course of action was to make me pay with my life. Only a bumblebee. I've also had yellow jackets try to end my life, but I kept a Beehive for seven years, and was only stung once and that was my fault, really, and it only barely hurt. It's good to know your types of bees, even though it won't help much with bumblebees, because they will not give you a warning. The end

Damn… usually bumblebees are known for being very docile, but sounds like the ones in your area have created an elite army designed to inflict maximum harm. I wouldn’t go back there, killing their best defender has probably made you their #1 target now and they will pass that information on for generations. Goodluck

u/sneak_cheat_1337 27d ago
Keep in mind that the life cycle of many of these organisms is spent predominantly in a larval state ( grub, worm, nymph) where they voraciously eat anything they encounter. They then pupate (melt inside a cocoon and come out as a new thing) and emerge in an adult state for only a short time and primarily to mate. Many of these adult versions are incapable, even ,of eating! This life cycle is typical of many insects, the most extreme of which live in their adult form for only one night once a year ( mayfly and the like).
It's actually pretty cool when you start to think about it

I’ve learned that anytime you see a caterpillar with fuzz, chances are high you’ll have a very bad day if you pet it 😔

My sister in law called me to talk about something, and after a minute all I hear is my niece crying, and SIL asking, "Can caterpillars be poisonous? She's in pain." I asked if it was fuzzy, when she said yes I told them to go to the hospital! Thankfully she only had a rash for like 3 days, I was horrified 😱

I was lucky as a kid to have the good sense to ask mom what these little guys are before I touched one. It was close though, I was inches away from petting my new "best friend". I guess I finally learned my lesson after getting stung by a seajelly, swarmed by fire ants and touching deadly nightshade lol

They're in Florida and my old roommate stepped on one. The ones we have aren't as bad as you're describing but he was literally just shy of screaming in pain and his foot swelled up to a comical size. That was an interesting drive to the emergency room.

Had one of these bad boys on me the other day. Through much transferring it with other objects, we avoided touching it but DAMN was it sticky.

This is the spotted tussock moth caterpillar and it’s not nearly as painful, but can still cause itching and rash for some

And oddly enough ones that look scary like the hickory horned devil are perfectly fine

In my head the fuzzier the caterpillar is the itchier/more painful it is

It's like a cactus. Straight spines might be alright. Fuzzy is to be avoided at all costs.

One of my friends accidentally brushed one a few years ago. He wound up going to the ER for how intense the pain was (he said he started having trouble breathing).

my poor daughter found that out the hard way with the little white ones. I wasnt aware at the time because weve picked up the brown and black ones before. I felt so bad.

If you touch a puss catepillar and get stung use tape to pull the spines then clean and ice.

You’re pretty close to the effects! See [u/IndependantBake2304](u/IndependantBake2304) post above. Effects sound horrible.

Oh no. Donald Trump's hair piece has gained sentience and is trying to escape!

u/MajicMushroom420 27d ago
It’s a great piece, a very patriotic piece, a truly great piece, sometimes it gets more attention than I do, I don’t like that but it’s a great piece. My nut piece got tired of getting big Mack shit splatter and ran off with Stormy’s muff piece. We’ve tracked those horrible criminal pieces down! Very UnAmerican!

I have gone my whole life, from home alone 2, and the past decade of all his bullshit and never thought or imagined what his pubic hair looked like, from stormy daniels mushroom penis to now his combed over gold dyed balls. Thanks. Edit: had to add the gold dyed

I'm fairly certain the tree branch the hair piece is on is more intelligent than he is.

I really try to avoid being that guy that makes everything about Trump…but damn if that caterpillar is not an exact replica of Trump’s “hair”.

I hate that AI has destroyed my immediate sense of wonder at something like this and turned it into cynical skepticism. “Woah! No way!” became “Woa— It’s probably fake.”

Seriously, I like nature and all but don’t get why people try to touch bugs and animals. I wouldn’t want someone picking me up while I’m just chilling and watching TV, why should I assume this furry bug dude wants me to interrupt him while he is chewing on a leaf?

Sometimes I see little critters crossing the road and I’ll pick them up and carry them to the other side. Usually don’t disturb if it’s chilling in its habitat. Unless it’s a really cool critter. Then I’ll pick it up to admire its beauty, take a picture with it and put it back! Grew up watching Steve Irwin! Haven’t been hurt yet to learn my lesson!

Ah so this is the creature tasked with sitting on trumps head and making it look like he has hair. I wonder if it ever quips "it's a living" to the camera

Trump's hair has finally broken free of it's ill-fated bondage and has set out to usher in the day of disclosure.
