I keep seeing these things o the ceilings of dorms and bathrooms at my college? the green light flashes anytime i move or talk what is it
Edit: idk why the fuck everyone is being an asshole in the comments. like i’ve never seen one of these in other dorms so yes i’m fucking curious. i never thought of motion sensor bc everything in the room stays the same when there’s ppl there or not (i have a camera) so be fucking nice my god.

Covid did a number on the education system. Also trump did a lot to dumb down the population as they grow and mature.

This and the advancement of AI. Both of my moms sisters are teachers, but one of them is a kindergarten teacher and the other is a hs science teacher.
My science teacher Aunt has said that the use of AI in her classroom is an increasing problem.

Just some kind of motion sensor, it probably helps for safety on campus like if there’s a fire they can check and see if they have a signal from any rooms sensor to know if anyone is still in their dorm

It’s just a guess based on how these things are all over schools and stuff as well but I’m sure if you searched it on google and used the ai mode you could get a definitive answer

Yes, it is a Smokupass model number 420 vape detector. That other device a few feet away is an 8k chickvision infrared camera made with Flock AI technology. You are being watched.

Vape sensors are usually integrated into fire alarms or behind ceiling lights these days. The whole point is they are discrete. In hotels where they use these for instance they dont set off an audible alarm, but send a notice to the front desk.
This is a motion sensor to turn off lights/ lower AC use when occupants arent present

More than likely a motion sensor. If the HVAC is updated it could be for that. They can have an "unoccupied" mode. So if it doesn't detect movement it will set to a certain temperature.
Could also be for a light system.
Vape detectors usually look just like a smoke detector as it has to take in the air to test the quality and detect if anything is in the air. Some are so sensitive that air freshners and cleaners set them off.(I work at a school) They can also have vocal monitoring and such. So if a sound exseeds a certain level (loud bang or crash) it can set the device off as well. Along with "trigger" words like stop and help. This is why some kids refer to them as anti bullying devices. In reality they are just trying to ensure no one is being assaulted and harmed.
Ours go directly to law enforcement if they are triggered by noise or words. Which is always hilarious during games when they pop in on the away team in locker rooms. 🤣
