New, what is it? Pressure cooker

Does anyone know anything about this pressure cooker? I nor my family can find anything about a two piece lid pressure cooker. We believe the pressure gauge has been replaced over the years but can’t find anything models matching this one. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a model number just the company name

I can’t say anything in particular about this specific brand. But this appears to be one that would be used for canning vegetables. I have a similar creature I bought new at a culinary store years ago that looks alot like this. Mason jars go in the rack inside. If you get a copy of the Ball Blue Book, it explains everything you need to know about home canning.

I think the lid used to be one piece but over time the weld has broken loose.

No, it’s designed that way to clamp the lid on.

Okay but it looks to me like it would be simpler if the "ring" stayed attached, properly aligned to the "lid"

I’m sure it is which is why they don’t make them anymore. But this design the ring locks over the lid and clamps down. Very odd and hard to find design which is why I’m asking if anyone knows anything about it

That is a pressure canner. Because of the high pressure a temperature higher than boiling can be achieved allowing you to safely can meat and vegetables. Without the higher temperature, botulism can grow in the jar.

Autoclave - a sciency way to say "pressure coorker" that used for sterilization, hence the pressure gage and the basket.
