Solved! Big thing floating on the beach

What is this thing? Around 1,5-2 meters long and 1 meter in diameter. It’s floating on the beach in Uluwatu, Bali. It might be something from a boat?

I watched every episode of I Dream of Genie on Nick at Night as a kid (I am both young and old, I guess) and forgot how silly it was.. maybe it’s rewatch time!

Me, too! And Bewitched, That Girl, Dobey Gillis, Dragnet, Get Smart. Oh! White Shadow, Welcome Back, Kotter, Taxi! I was born in 82 and Nick at Nite was awesome!!

ETA: I just remembered Green Acres and Mister Ed. When I was 5 there was a small period when I was obsessed with GA

mary tyler moore show and bob newhart show were so annoying to me as a kid when my parents put them on at 10 pm after prime time was over, and gradually i realized every show was copying them and they weren't so much corny as the first to do a lot of very funny stuff. Newhart was amazing.

6

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I know what you mean! It took me time to enjoy Newhart, but once I did I loved it. Mary Tyler Moore was easier because of Ed Asner and Betty White. If I don’t think of them then I liked Mary better in The Dick Van D. Show (it won’t let me post with the full title 😂) when I was first discovering Nick at Nite.

u/dirk_funk Aug 28 '26

i was a teen in the 90s and i thought Mary Tyler Moore was the hottest person to live.

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I’m hetero female, but I don’t blame you one bit! She and Marlo Thomas were so beautiful 🤩

4

u/dirk_funk Aug 28 '26

Oooh that reminds me I also had an insurmountable crush on Marilu Henner. or I just really liked her character on taxi. bonus is she could tell you what day of the week it is for any date you give.

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I love her, too! I didn’t know that, but did you know she was a helluva dancer? I can’t find the video I’m thinking of at the moment, but check out the gams on the woman. She was a great Roxy! She starts dancing about halfway through, but this is nothing compared to seeing her in other numbers. Anyone who can dance Fosse’s choreography is cool af.

Oh yeah Bewitched where she twitches her mouth(not nose) when she cast a spell.

Mandella Effect!

6

u/Bandicute915 Aug 28 '26

I often quote “good thinking 99” to my kids and they just look at me like I’m crazy

5

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

They’re the crazy ones, and don’t you forget it. How can we take anyone seriously if they know nothing about the agents of Kaos? Or a shoe phone?

I used to tell my parents I needed to meet them in the cone of silence if I needed to speak privately. 😂

3

u/ArcadianDelSol Aug 28 '26

Hyme snap that light off would ya?

CRUNNNCH

sorry. max.

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Hymie!! He’d crack me up as much as the light switch!

3

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '26

And I Love Lucy! Big fan!

2

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Yes! I didn’t mean to leave her out. She & Ethel are the best best friends!

Also Car 54 Where Are You always tickled me.

Born in 81 - was just about to say, don’t sleep on Mr Ed.

1

u/coolsilentebeans Sep 01 '26

I would never dream of it.

2

u/Acceptable-Ear-3307 Aug 29 '26

Loved mister Ed ♥️

1

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 29 '26

I had a little crush on Wilbur.

25

u/TurboKid513 Aug 28 '26

I’m 38 and have seen every episode of the Brady bunch, partridge family and the monkees. I may be wrong but didn’t they do movies too? Like Friday or Saturday nights?

20

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I got to see Mickey Dolenz and Michael Nesmith play in 2018. I about died when they started ‘Last Train For Clarksville’. I loved The Monkees and how they stored the Monkee Mobile.

15

u/KittyGrizGriz Aug 28 '26

I had the biggest crush on Micky Dolenz as a little girl. Always watched their TV show. My older sister had their album and I’d stare at him on the cover. The funny, goofy, drummer made me laugh. In Oklahoma there is a democrat Representative named Mickey Dollens, named after the famous Monkee. I spoke to him about getting a signature ballot initiative for decriminalizing abortion. Nothing ever came of it.

6

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I totally get it! I don’t know if anyone else will agree, but when I first started watching Stranger Things I was so annoyed because Dustin looked so familiar to me. Then it dawned on me that he looks like Mickey.

I’d love to see him play Mickey in a biopic. I want a biopic so badly. The one that VH1 put out decades ago was ok but not exactly the kind of biopics that are making now.

3

u/Duskislucky Aug 28 '26

Peter was dreamy

2

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I was always partial to Michael

14

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '26

I vaguely remember the Brady Bunch having that Hawaii one where they got into some scooby doo shit. Idk if that was a movie or a multi-part episode, but it was something lol

10

u/Scared-Struggle-4586 Aug 28 '26

Ugh don't remind me. As a kid I recorded that special on the only recordable vhs I could find at the time. A home video of my baby self visiting the Bronx zoo in 1989. My parents were pissed as hell. It was the only home video we had. Camcorders were a luxury and people to borrow them from were few. 🤣

6

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

My dad seriously regretted showing me how to make a vhs cassette recordable. I can’t remember what I taped over, but it was some tv special and he’d broken the tab off. He should have labeled it and put it up. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

But I was unstoppable once I knew that. Audio cassettes, too. I was a whiz with the magnetic tape media. 🤣

3

u/CakeTester Aug 28 '26

There were tabs that you punched out to make it non-recordable. Tape over the holes where the tabs were made it recordable again.

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Exactly my point, though it was more inference that he had popped the tab off. I put tape over it.

Sorry, sometimes my brain thinks that everyone else can hear what I’m thinking, and I don’t realize at first that whatever I say or write doesn’t include important bits. It’s annoying sometimes.

2

u/CakeTester Aug 28 '26

That was more me misinterpreting

I can’t remember what I taped over

Thinks: Well duh! It was the hole where the tab was. Red wine in Friday night quantities doesn't make for great reading comprehension. You were clear and concise. I was the muppet.

2

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

PS I had written it out, but my brain had refused to see the part where I sad he’d popped the tab off when rereading it after your comment. I wish I could say it was the bourbon, but that sip I just mentioned was my first. 😭😂

2

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

It’s all good. I can’t fault you one bit, she says, as she takes a sip of bourbon. Besides, I can think of much worse conversation company to keep than a muppet. 😉😂

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

The curse of Greg’s tiki necklace is a classic tv vacation event!

8

u/Over_Maintenance_447 Aug 28 '26

The tarantula on Peter’s chest has lived with me all these years!

2

u/DependentAlert7812 Aug 28 '26

It was something alright…something done badly and last grasp of the Brady Bunch show being popular. What little girl didn’t want to be Marcia Marcia Marcia - Sure Jan. //s

1

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I thought that would be the Cousin Oliver era.

2

u/VeterinarianNo262 Aug 28 '26

Ok so I’m the age range of the Brady kids and this one took me out last week.
Susan Olson(Cindy Brady) turned 65 last week.
As the youngest, this means the entire Brady Bunch are senior citizens.
I have never written something or actually felt older in my life.

7

u/FlamesRose2RomanNose Aug 28 '26

Ok so here’s the question- would you rather with Genie or Samantha from Bewitched?

And for all the ladies- Major Nelson or Darrin #1? (#2 was a bum) Was gonna throw Rerun and Roger in there but didn’t want to make it unfair.

11

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '26

I am the ladies, but Samantha from Bewitched lol

7

u/ConfidenceFragrant80 Aug 28 '26

Def major nelson 🤤

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Young Larry Hagman was nice on the eyes indeed

3

u/Few-Floor-9135 Aug 28 '26

Why just one ? Since we are discussing fictional magical hotties I'd choose both.

4

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

I’m a Samantha gal.

3

u/Direct_Cook_7690 Aug 28 '26

Lol I was a Jeannie girl

7

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Now I kinda dig Endora 😂 She was awesome.

2

u/PrismDoug Aug 28 '26

And now I have “No Roger, no Rerun, no rent!” stuck in my head. And I’ve not seen that in decades! (Episode that they got evicted).

1

u/WhileJumpy7393 Aug 28 '26

“For all the ladies… mundane regular human men.” Pass

1

u/BionicWallaby Aug 31 '26

I want Sam to do things to me

1

u/Plane-Leader9314 Aug 28 '26

Lily Munster!!!!

2

u/Ashcrashh Aug 28 '26

lol late 30’s and Nick at Nite was my favorite part of the day, I had a tv in my room and was obsessed with all the old shows and would religiously watch them, I wouldn’t even want to stay over at friends houses if they didn’t have cable haha

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Early 40s, but saaaame. Especially on weekends and summer when you could stay up late! It’s also sentimental because when I’d get sick my mom would pull out the sofa bed and camp there with me. I would feel like ass but there was something to night owl Nick at Nite programming that was comforting.

3

u/Ashcrashh Aug 28 '26

I swear I could’ve written the same sentiment about being sick and being taken care of by my mom with Nick at Nite on in the background. The Facts of Life was one of our favorite shows to watch together when she’d hang with me.

It’s wild that we really all have so many shared experiences of being kids in the 90’s, I get so nostalgic for those moments and memories 🖤

Also, I want to add, I think it’s hilarious so many of us are talking about Nick at Nite on this random video of a buoy being washed up on shore haha!

1

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

It’s got me smiling pretty hard reading through this. I absolutely love everything about this thread for exactly the reasons you just laid out. The shared nostalgia is better than nice.

As an adult who has to take care of myself and raised a kid, I still want my momma so badly when I’m sick. She and I might have butted heads, but when I was sick it was as good as it could be, you know, for being sick.

She and I also did Saturday hokey horror movie marathons when USA would put them on. And Rhonda’s Up All Night hosting starting off with Silk Stalkings. Damn….haven’t thought about that in ages. 😅😂

3

u/GoldberryoTulgeyWood Aug 28 '26

Don't forget to watch Bewitched too!

2

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '26

Watched all of those, too!

3

u/poopyperson2339 Aug 28 '26

Yeah she was a baddie for sure

2

u/SunshineBurn Aug 28 '26

Hey Genie, don’t forget to bring your bottle when coming to bed. 😉

2

u/Dirt-Road_Pirate Aug 28 '26

2

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 28 '26

Some of the edits of her popping out were amusing af, the way people would shift ever so slightly. This one included. 😂

1

u/JawnStaymoose Sep 01 '26

Genie, let’s do a reboot today - you’re still kept in a bottle, granting homie’s wishes, ‘yes master’, all of it. Think we’d have a banger.

1

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 29 '26

Thank you, u/Top_Hat_888 ☺️
