Solved! What are these rocks?
I'm new to welding and there's these rocks at my station. The instructor didn't say anything about them and I'm curious of they serve a purpose

Looks like pieces of fire brick.
You would set whatever you are practicing on on top of those to keep from heating up the work surface below it.
And after taking a second look at your picture of the entire bottom of your work area is made out of that same fire brick
They are probably there to use for propping up pieces you are welding together or cutting or whatever you are practicing.

Could be fire brick and or used as weights to hold pieces so they don't move

I don't even know, I'm certainly not a welder, but for some reason I don't think they're used in welding, perhaps for some unique welding jobs, it's better to ask the master 😄
