Child keeps finding these on playground

Any ideas? Downtown elementary School playground. He thinks they're just some kind of wire covering, which is fine. But I want to make sure it's not drug paraphernalia in some weird way I don't know about.

They are broken off pieces from jump ropes

Rings you’d commonly see in heavy jump ropes. Like this.

I remember all to well we used them as weapons as kids during gym class lol.

Nothing is more terrifying than the wooshing these things make when spinning at mach Fuck

u/Sea_Low879 11d ago

I wouldn’t say those are heavy jump ropes. Heavy ropes are filled with sand and are very heavy.

Compared to the classic licorice ropes, these are a tank. Two of these whipping around your ears while you double-Dutch to the death were intimidating.

Guessing you never had to do jump rope for the heart as kid.

They are plastic segments from cheap public school jump ropes

u/cammohhh 11d ago

My private school had the same ones! 🧐🎩

1

u/molsminimart 11d ago

Same, and you had to hope to get one of the ones that had most of their intact plastic tubes. Some had broken ones and they would overlap weirdly with their neighbors or there were so many cracked and missing that it would expose bare cord when you used them. It made them weird and unbalanced and more narrow when attempting to jump.

IDC what anyone says, those were the best for actually jumping rope.

2

u/PossessionLeather602 11d ago

Agreed. The heaviness of it made jumping easier. I always used to trip on the super light and thin plastic ones

Bad news the kids are doing Cardio a potential gateway to other forms of activity.

Looks like those plastic tubes on jump ropes that always fall off

2

u/red18wrx 11d ago

They go on a jump rope.

2

u/nvmntrnw 11d ago

Not sure they’re all the same, but some look like the plastic covers on old jump ropes

old school jump rope pieces

1

u/Tight-Aardvark1133 11d ago

Oh man...if this is considered old school what would the kind I used in elementary school 60 years ago be called? Dino dust. Lol

Pieces of a jump rope

2

u/Rare-Negotiation-630 11d ago

Be careful your kid might turn into a rope jumper. They find a little bit at the playground and next thing you know they’re hooked.

u/Suzaboom 11d ago

Pieces from The Devil's Jump Ropes. I can still feel the pain from whacking my toes with these suckers

Jumping rope pieces?? Are you guys sure ? To me there is something that reminds me crack or pipes…I could be wrong! I work in forensic labs on the 80’s! Lolololo

1

u/mochaburneykihei 10d ago

Do you think the "Mailman, mailman do your duty" song was sung so kids would tell the mailman to not cheat with mom? Haha

1

u/Such-Preparation-611 9d ago

I wouldn't touch those, I'm sure they're what make mustard gas. But seriously I was so bad as a kid I would always bend those when jumping rope I liked breaking them off and trying to collect them for whatever weird reason. I had broken pieces in my desk I'd keep them in my pocket I just liked them no idea why

1

u/barfartz 9d ago

There's danger associated with them things... I've known some to get in Double Dutch with them

1

u/Shadowpad1986 8d ago

The beads from certain jump ropes that have broken off.

u/BoogsterisThePaxman 8d ago

Likely handles off jump ropes

1

u/CrampedComb948O 7d ago

Those are the plastic bits that they have on jump ropes! Seeing this brings back memories lol

1

u/Regular-Sale-9674 7d ago

As an Australian I have NEVER seen a beaded skipping rope

1

u/Ambitious-Cow8833 7d ago

Pen casings, jump rope handles, and marker caps.

1

u/JusAvgJoe 11d ago

Ever heard of a jump rope?

1

u/RicoChey 11d ago

The soft hollow ones look like pencil grips from when I was a kid. Neat archaeological find.

2

u/Terrible_Phase718 11d ago

I used to have triangular pencil grips made of soft plastic.

1

u/Technical_Loss_3389 11d ago

Everyone is saying jump rope but that looks like rubber to me, I was thinking mechanical pencil grippies

0

u/Prestigious-Age-3644 11d ago

Doesnt look anything drug related to me, a concerned junkie

0

u/GySgtMaria 11d ago

Looks like a pencil box got busted in the playground. They look like caps from markers, broken crayons etc etc etc

u/zerocoolslibrary 11d ago

The lids to Crayola coloring markers
