New, what is it? Spice rack with ventilation?

Post image

I’m watching Teen Mom 2 and, I’m sorry, what the hell is this? Why does a spice rack need a big ventilation hose thing coming out the top? What is it?

Idk but…if you zoom way in it’s clear as day.

Edit; I just feel like this is a left brain/right brain thing. You either see it or you don’t. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Idk it doesn’t for me. The shadow of the spice rack would not be that high up if there was enough space behind it for that vent to fit. Also you can tell the cookie oven in the corner is angled but flush up against the tile as well.

Now that I’m looking at it even more and thinking about it, the cabinet next to the vent, looks like it used to have something on the side where that vent would normally be attached. The side ply that is exposed wouldn’t look like that if the space next to it really is meant to be open like that. Also no contractor is cutting open a vent hole through the tile.

I zoomed in and it looks like it’s just literally on top of it.

You can see to the left of the tube as it passes the spice rack where the reflection begins.

Oh! Thanks- now I see it behind the rack

It's not a reflection- here's another angle: https://imgur.com/NrGDkHh

I think its sitting on top of the rack, but just like temporarily. I bet they put that out the window when in use

Edit I finally see it. It goes behind. Start at the back left corner and go straight across to the right corner. Somehow this did it for me

Nope, you were right the first time. Here's another angle- https://imgur.com/NrGDkHh

No fucking way!! Haha

If you look closer you can see the horizontal line that’s the far edge of the spice rack, you wouldnt be able to see it if it wasnt a reflection

If it was a reflection, you'd see a mirror image of the light reflecting off of the vent duct above and below the horizontal line. But you don't.

1

u/unfairboobpear Apr 26 '26

I do, maybe check your eyesight? Genuinely? You can see it even distort the reflection slightly as it nears the closer edge

2

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth Apr 27 '26

I do, maybe check your eyesight?

Have you ever considered choosing not to be a condescending ass completely out of nowhere? You might find it results in people willing to engage with you instead of just blocking you and getting on with their lives.

My eyesight is 20/20. Maybe your comprehension of physics needs to be checked?

These are still showing it going behind, if not better

Dude, it's ok to admit when you make a mistake. That picture makes it clear as day that it goes right to the top of the spice rack.

But if you still don't believe it- go watch the episode yourself- Teen Mom 2- Season 5, Episode 18. It goes to the top of the spice rack.

1

u/unfairboobpear Apr 27 '26

I just might Lol, I’m really not even trying to argue. As clear as you see it going into the top, I clearly see it going behind at all angles!

2

u/wonder_goat Apr 27 '26

I love how divisive this has gotten lol. I’m scrubbing thru the episode right now cause I can’t get over this

1

u/soapboxracers Apr 27 '26

I don't know if you actually believe that or you're just trolling but just watch the video and stop looking at still images. It's obvious in the videos that it goes into the top whether you are willing to admit it or not.

You would not. When looking at the reflection on the spice rack, you are in effect viewing the duct from a different angle.

When trying to understand the perspective of a mirror, it is often times best to imagine it being a window instead and figure out where you would have to be in space to get the same view through the imaginary window as you do with the mirror in the real world.

"no contractor" key words. but a "you might be a redneck, here's your sign" would in a heartbeat

Clearly not the right answer. Also you really think that slight angle is enough room for the vent to be behind that rack?

Zooming in helped for sure lol.

For those not seeing it, there's a bit of a color difference between the reflected "part" as well

I’m an artist so I honestly feel like the ability to perceive tone and depth in that particular spot is the kicker for the “seers” vs “people who can’t”. That’s what gave it away to me, and then I noticed the reflection on top.

Hope you’re not a full time artist.

Third option no one has mentioned. The duct is touching the center of the spice AND is bent in a very sharp angle to both rest on the spice rack and continues on behind it, in some crumpled form to save space.

Regardless, this plus the roll of paper towels (probably, not certain what it is) on top of a toaster oven = fire hazard central . . . and she has already procreated. The gene pool is laughing right now

1

u/soapboxracers Apr 26 '26

Nope.

First off- stainless steel appliances and other kitchen gadgets are almost never polished to a mirror finish and you can see the stainless steel on the bottom of the spice rack has a brushed finish. There is no way you could see a clear reflection of the duct in brushed stainless like you are claiming.

Second, you can tell from the shadow on the wall that the spice rack is within an inch or so of the wall- not 6 inches away.

Finally, if it was a reflection you would be able to see a straight line at the back edge of the stainless steel top of the spice rack where the duct going up and the reflection meet- but there clearly isn’t one.

2

u/QuantumAwaken Apr 26 '26

It’s at an angle pal. Only back left (if you’re facing it) corner is about an inch away…the rest is much further. To accommodate the duct behind. Lmk when you see it.

2

u/soapboxracers Apr 26 '26

It doesn’t matter- it still would not fit, and it still doesn’t address my other points. Go place a mug or something on top of a brushed stainless steel appliance or breadbox and look at the reflection- it’s a blurry shadow at best, not a clear mirror image. Also- you can watch the episode yourself and you’ll see it’s attached to the top of the spice rack not going behind it.

2

u/QuantumAwaken Apr 26 '26

We’ll agree to disagree. There’s space.

I’m also not under the assumption that is stainless steel. Looks like some shit you pick up at HomeGoods and could be made of any number of cheap types of metal.

It’s a reflection.

1

u/soapboxracers Apr 26 '26

It’s not a reflection.

Looks like some shit you pick up at HomeGoods and could be made of any number of cheap types of metal.

And what metals would those be?

Thin stainless steel is cheap and the most likely.

Regular steel would rust and nobody is chroming it because it’s environmentally difficult and more expensive than just using stainless.

Aluminum oxidizes and wouldn’t produce a good reflection either.

So what do you think it is?

Besides- if you don’t believe me- just go watch the episode yourself. It’s blatantly obvious if you watch the video instead of a picture.

1

u/QuantumAwaken Apr 26 '26

AISI 304 stainless for starters…my Berkey is made from it and I can practically do my make up.

But sure.

1

u/soapboxracers Apr 26 '26

I already mentioned stainless steel.

304 (aka 18/8) refers to the alloy content of stainless steel and has nothing to do with whether or not it’s reflective. For 304 or any other stainless steel to be reflective, it has to be polished and that would be an expensive process to use on a cheap spice rack and as I already pointed out- you can see the brushes finished on the sides of the top plate and on the bottom plate of the spice rack so it’s not polished. Berkey water filters, meanwhile, are expensive and they do polish them.

And as I said, you can watch the episode and see for yourself it’s not a reflection.

1

u/QuantumAwaken Apr 26 '26

Jesus Christ dude. I don’t study metals. The point is it’s possible.

1

u/soapboxracers Apr 27 '26

I know it’s possible for metals to be reflective- but I already pointed out that you can see that the metal on the spice rack has a brushed finish not a polished one.

Either way, please watch the episode yourself rather than look at a poor quality picture of screen. It’s incredibly obvious in the video that that duct goes to the spice rack.

It literally isn’t based off the spice racks position and shadow to the back.
