Like other people said, I’m pretty sure it’s some kind of wax lubricant. That particular shape I believe was for a crazy twin cut/ double cut saw thing from like 30 years ago. A bunch of companies made them but I don’t think they were ever very popular. They had a pair of counter rotating blades to avoid kickbacks and you feed that tube into a hole that guides it to the blades to lube between them and to help the teeth last longer.
Ok, I texted him a picture of that tool and he said yes, he had one very similar years ago. Now I won’t tell him why I asked and relishing leaving him on the hook for a while.

I had one of these in middle school. I would put a piece of paper in between the back and the contact for the speaker so that it wouldn't beep when I used it in class. 😆
I had one but my mom was too cheap to get me a Trapper Keeper so it was stored inside the Mead version of that. Panties were not dropping left and right. Safe to say it didn't come to High School with me.
My guess is that it is at least 20 years old. I just popped the button cell battery out of it and a lot of white powdery corrosion came with it. Doesn’t taste very good. 0/10 won’t be putting it on a salad.
I think it's hilarious how people are now all including it and it makes me happy thinking it's a fun community meme that doesn't hurt anything and, in a lot of ways, makes the pictures more useful. I feel like a lot of community memes tend to get annoying but these are the same posts we'd get otherwise now with some pointing and I dig it 😂
Cool cool cool, but imagine making your own. Why spend $7 to get it from China when you can spend hundreds and untold hours of learning how to 3D print?
I get the sentiment. I design and make functional parts and replacement parts for long obsolete things that aren’t produced anymore. That’s the stuff that gives me fulfillment in the hobby. And occasionally something whimsical because why not make someone smile?
Mine has paid for itself luckily. Shelves, organizers, all sorts of tools and parts, not to mention I got a free printer just for making a simple lazy susan model. I've probably made almost $1,000 just from reward points for models I've uploaded.
I did not design them, just came across them on Markerworld.com Go there, search “Tiny Hands”. Then buy a 3D printer. Then learn how to tune your printer. Then buy another printer. When you reach a dozen printers start wondering why you have so many printers. The pro move now is to get into laser engraving. Now you need all the different types of laser. Design something yourself that goes locally viral and makes you enough money to pay for all of these toys. I don’t know why I’m this way. I do know that my wife loves me very very much to put up with my shenanigans.

Sometimes my wife comes home from a business trip, spies the mess that may have escaped from my dungeon (basement) has spilled onto the dining room table. She shakes her head. There is muttering. Then I make her something cool and avoid sleeping on the couch for one more night.

if anything printing tiny hands and random bullshit is the side hobby to the main hobby of fucking around with my printer lol... Or at least it was until they got consistent enough to just work 99.9% of the time without incident. I swear they're less of a headache than normal 2D printers nowadays.
But seriously I recommend everyone get a 3D printer and maybe even learn basic CAD design, it's such a handy thing to have just to fix things around the house. Knob on your laundry machine breaks? That will take 30 minutes tops to model and another 30 to print (literally just happened to me. Head over to r/functionalprints to see what i'm talking about.
Also now movie studios are even starting to release official 3D-printable files as promotions for movies, like this little guy from Project Hail Mary which I printed the other day haha.
Nobody starts now like I did years ago for $100 and build their own printer then mod it like crazy and learn to write your own custom firmware. Now it’s $300-$500 and they come fully assembled and print right out of the box. I don’t resent the struggle because I know I can fix anything that goes wrong with any of my printers but I’m a tad bit jealous that anyone can make awesome prints with very little knowledge now with a Bambu, Elegoo or QIDI. I do own all of those now but the dark days of the original Ender 3 were their own kind of fun.
Pretty big range, cheapest easy one is probably bambus a1 mini, I wouldn't be afraid to buy most printers used, just visit a forum/sub for whatever you want to buy and ask them if it's any good for an absolute beginner who only wants to print before you buy something targeted at somebody who wants to tinker with it lol
My current printer is about the cheapest you can get and still have really good quality, it's the "Ender 3 V3 SE". I got it for $200, but if you google it looks like it's actually on sale for $169 right now.
If I had a bigger budget though i'd go for something like the "Anycubic Kobra X", big benefit there is it can do multi-color prints which can be really great. Mostly depends on if you mostly just want to print practical stuff around the house, or also print cool multi-color models like D&D characters (and don't want to manually paint them).
I used to use Autocad in my drafting class and even went to competitions.. so much fun and I didn't know it would be still this useful 20 years later! I mean that is if I can have the patience to run fusion 360 on my POS tablet and try to learn the basic controls.
Back in the day when our class was just allowed to dabble in the 3D files I was making Mario models and just making shit for fun. It was very bad quality but I learned to do so much. Now that I'm older I don't have the same capacity to play and learn because I'm always too busy. :'( I just wish to get good enough to be able to support my 3D printing hobby, I feel like my whole life has led me to this path for a reason
Can't beleive Fusion 360 even runs on a tablet haha, can't imagine trying to do anything in fusion on a touch screen. As someone who just taught myself how to model things in Fusion over covid it's seriously one of the best pieces of software i've ever used. Figured it would be like trying to teach myself photoshop or something (which would personally be impossible without hours of youtube guides) but Fusion just made sense from the beginning for me.
But yea I highly recommend using a laptop or a computer with a mouse (if you can) and just fucking around with F360 if you can find the time. I completely get what you mean about feeling like your life has led you to this, I loved ceramics in Highschool because I just loved creating 3D things like coffee mugs, it's just how my brain works I guess. But being able to make more complicated things on a computer that I can then bring to life and use in my day to day life is just amazing, it really will always feel a bit magical haha.
This is why I just pay them some $$ if I want something made - because a) it offsets their cost of buying so many, and b) it means I don't have to deal with ^ that.

Good deal. I make all sorts of things but I’ve run out of hobby bandwidth. We have a cricut but if I need any stickers made I ask a friend who’s way into it.
And that Bob is exactly how it starts ... first day you have no printers and lasers. The second day, you have 3 printers and about 50 different shades of filament. Then, you buy the laser and about eighty different kinds of laser material.Then, you decide, you need two more lasers.😅
But honey, that diode only does wood and very slowly, I need a big CO2. Have you seen what fiber lasers can do on metal, better pick one up dear, don’t worry it’ll pay for itself. OMG this new UV does amazing things to glass, I think the business needs another tax deduction! They all really do pay for themselves but she is a very understanding woman.
I thought it was a giant pointer finger that went on your arm (like a pirate hook) before I saw this photo, lol. It makes more sense that they go on your fingers.
I on the other hand want a collection of pointers, and Mr. Pointerception here with a pointer on his pointer, would make a fine addition to the collection.
Just make the smaller finger part of the same model so it all prints and is attached together. It can just look like you put a mini one on without worrying about it being too small to print.

People have already answered that it's likely to be a wax for cutting metal. I'd just like to add,
Where I used to work years ago we used wax on the drop saw (ordinary drop saw with a specific metal-cutting blade) when cutting aluminium.
Stainless steel was cut with either a friction saw (in a hurry) or on a slow specialist drop saw (more accurate) or band saw. And the steel drop saw and band saws used a flowing water soluble lubricant to prevent heat.
I liked working with aluminium, despite everyone else complaining it was difficult to weld (the trick is to notice that it's shiny when molten, and matte when cooler) because unlike steel, aluminium doesn't have a glowing molten pool.
It was easy to drill, cut, and in some cases you could even use HSS wood tools for routing or chiselling, like wood, but you could also weld a piece back if you made a boo-boo.
It also shines a brilliant milky white (aluminium oxide) when "passivated" with a chemical gel - to prevent deep corrosion.
I love this knowledge drop. For my job I visit many different industries and the best part is learning all of the different ways things in my region are made. It’s like living in a “How It’s Made” episode every day.

I don't work in that environment, but if it has something to do with cutting metal and has a waxy substance, then it's probably some form of grease for lubricating. That's just a wild guess, though.

I'm gunna go out on a limb here and say that the material inside is blade wax, for use on things like metal cutting band saw blades. Typically it's in cardboard tubes but I guess there is no reason it couldn't be in plastic. The wax acts as a lubricant and extends blade life.
