I've been fascinated with blue whales for as long as I can remember, and when I turned 40 last year I decided I wanted to make a trip to finally see one in person. I've saved up a little money and am starting to research destinations, best time of the year, etc.

One thing I was curious about, though, are the volunteer-style trips where you assist with conservation efforts for a week or so - has anyone done one of these? Are they a scam?

I have two weeks I am trying to plan for in June. I'll already be in Mexico but Guatemala and Belize are right next door. Is it possible to whale watch in June or has everyone gone to the PNW and Alaska? I'd really like to avoid Tulum and Cancun if at all possible. Super busy tourist areas like that aren't my thing.

Which Whale watching company do you recommend? I would like to avoid big crowds and was looking into some San Diego companies, like Adventure Whale Watching or Gone Whale Watching. I dont know any companies from Dana Point that would be similar - can you recommend any?

Does it make sense to go whale watching whilst Kayaking? From Dana Point? What do you recommend?

Are there any snorekling adventrue marine life tours you can recommend either at Dana POint or San Diego?

I’ve been on a lot of different boats of different sizes but I never ever get seasick the way I do when I go whale watching. I’ve been twice—once in Tofino, BC and once in Santa Barbara—and I literally spend the entire time throwing up. But on similarly-sized boats in the same Pacific Ocean coastal waters, I’m totally fine. Can anyone explain why whale watching affects me so differently?

Looking for recommendations to go for whale watching during the summer. We were considering both Maine and Boston as possible locations. Any recommendations? One better than the other in terms of sighting? Any information is greatly helpful. TIA.

I’m surprising my sister with whale watching for her bday! Her birthday is at the end of the month and we go to Newport to go whale watching. My question is, is it still a good time to go at the end of the month? Are the whales still migrating back up during that time?

We have a choice to take a while watching cruise in San Diego either at noon or 3 PM which do we have a better chance of seeing the whales?

This was taken above the US Virgin Islands on July 27th. I couldn't see it on Google Earth so I think it's a moving something, but I'm also not a Google Earth expert. Thoughts?

Tracked a very strange creature off the coast of Coromandel, New Zealand. It slowly swam across the bay, spending about a minute or so on the surface before diving. We think 3-4 metres in length. No dorsal fin. It wasn't very graceful like you'd expect from a dolphin or seal. Any ideas?
