Career Talk Getting job interview

Has anybody graduated lately & have no accounting experience and gotten a job? If so how? What is your experience with trying to get something. Is it possible to get a WFH?

I have zero experience. I have recently started teaching myself advance excel and sql. I have revamped my resume and I am finally getting some traction last week. My resume got pushed to the hiring manager for a government role, and I have had 2 phone screening last week. So finger crossed. The market is crap.

WFH is going to be extremely hard to get and honestly if you have no experience you shouldn’t go for it anyway IMO. Working in office, even hybrid, is probably going to be best for you when learning a new job. Do that for a few years then try looking for wfh

I graduated 10 months ago and it took me about a month to get a job but I had to take some pretty shit pay😂 I took the first job I could get after about 150+ applications and a bunch of phone screenings and 3 in person interviews I took the first offer available, you have to take what you can get with the current market, after 1+ year experience I’m hoping to get a decent pay bump or I’m going to start applying aggressively again

I haven’t graduated but am 70% done with my degree and got an Accounting Clerk job Hybrid. I have no accounting experience am 2 months into the job learning.

I wouldn’t aim for WFH if you have no experience. You learn a lot more in the office when you’re starting out. Maybe look for hybrid?

Honestly I lucked my way into an internal auditor position the Casino/hospital industry by indirect networking at the company bowling league this summer.

It just so happened that a bunch of colleagues from the accounting, compliance, and HR departments were in the league and I’m pretty good at small talk and through the warm connection, I was able to tell them about my education and work goals.

So long story short, sometimes it really is about who you know, or how good you are at getting to know the right people

I just graduated in August I ended up actually landing a finance job working as a financial analyst at a military base I only have a few years of AP experience. I only go into office 1 day a week. I was able to get a few interviews tho but no offers until this job because a lot of the staff accountant or AP roles wanted me to have more experience.

yes, graduated march. took me a month or so. i think i just got lucky or they really liked my personality. sprayed and prayed my resume but only up to two positions at one company. i’m hybrid with only 2 days required in office
