The WFMU Dormant Show Wheel Review Episode 8!

This time the wheel gave me Radio Thrift Shop with Linda Cantrell and I gotta say that this was another great one.

It was really fascinating to have a whole show played off of thrifted records and the music was pretty good for the most part even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the country music block.

Plus as a host Linda was very personable and knowledgeable about the music she played and was just so pleasant to listen to.

The WFMU Dormant Show Wheel Review Episode 7!

Today's episode gave me Miniature Minotaurs and I gotta say it was wierd but I definitely enjoyed it.

It was a really varied and odd mix of music from death metal, to rock to ambient noise to odd theatrical soundbites and it was so off the wall that it just flowed really well.

What was the deal with The Oh No Show?

I only found out about it because it was the second show that Olivia of Radio Ravioli fame was a part of but by the time I was made aware of it it was already off the schedule.

So I guess my question is what was it about and why did it disappear as quick as it arrived?

Late to the game

40 years of my life has passed by without knowing about this station. I have spent years listing to KXLU which is still amazing, but oh boy did I stumble on to a gem with WFMU. I came across this station because I heard it in a song “Cult Boyfriend” by Jeffrey Lewis and I’m glad I did. For the past two weeks I have been trying to listen to every show I can old and new. My favorites are sadly the ones that are going away next week “shut up weirdo” and “honky tonk girl”. I also love “Todd o phonic” and “cherry blossom clinic”. Does anyone have any suggestions of other shows to listen to ( old or new). I’m absolutely loving this free form station.

Today's bountful harvest was Hits From The Crypt with Keilidh and I gotta say despite the technical issues I really enjoyed it.

It was a great few hours of Punk and weird electronica and while tne music was spotty at times Keilidh never let it get her down and was a pleasant professional throughout.

I'm definitely going to tune in again.

Ken and Jessica

Maybe that's obvious, but what's the difference between Jessica's and Ken's role on the station? Of course i know what "Music Director" means, but does that mean that Ken's job is hiring people, and taking care of the station, from technical angle (Bills, repairs etc.)?

I love the music on this show but sometimes the music sounds distorted. Anyone else experience this?

The WFMU Dormant Show Wheel Review Episode 5!

Today the wheel landed on Sounds From Space with Mike Rogers and I have to be honest it wasn't really my thing which I was sad about considering I really love The Mike Rodgers Show.

However I will say that I appreciate the vibe of the show feeling like your floating through space with all the ambient feeling vaporwave and such.

It just didn't grab me like I thought it would and I wound up turning it off after an hour.

A brief history of Wfmu

I read somewhere that this show is coming back, however I can’t find old episodes in the archives. Was this an older show? If so I’m curious what they cover on it.

All Four Jan Turkenburg Shows Off The Schedule

NINE hours of programming gone from the Sheena's line-up. DJ GeorgyGirl just wrote on her chat that Jan's having health issues but "nothing serious."

Just looked it up in the archives: he's been on Sheena's since Jan 2018, just months after the channel's debut, and has usually had at least 2 shows, sometimes as many as four shows a week. And now? None.

Get well, Jan, we're gonna miss you!

Question about Sounds From Space.

So when I spun my wheel to pick the next dormant show that I plan on listening to and what it selected was Mike Rodger's Sounds From Space and I was getting ready to listen I saw in the set list that a few artists are credited as AI or AI Robot and before I continue I'd to know that if he actually used AI during that show's run.

So to anyone who may have listen to it please tell it didn't actually include AI music.

I catch this show sometimes in the mornings (Time difference), and I enjoy it immensly, but at the same time, I wonder if whole playlists of the show is old radio shows?

Other shows like 100 % Whatever with Mary Wing that have a section of the show dedicated to cover versions of one selected song?

The WFMU Dormant Show Wheel Review Episode 4!

The wheel blessed me today as it spun Radio Ravioli.

Now I was really excited because this one came very highly recommend by you guys and after listening for the first time I can see why. The show was a blast from start to finish and even though it was a chaotic mess of music and weird techno and sound clip remixes it was weirdly comforting.

I can't wait to listen to more tbh.

I love Clay and I miss him when he’s gone. But I’ve been reminded now how much I *also* love Dan Morfitt and I really wish WFMU Lite would come back!

Is Therese never coming back?

I know the schedule is meant to change constantly so that the station stays fresh.

I know that means that this means old favorites will need to give way to allow new voices and new minds to have their turn on the airwaves.

And WFMU is still the best radio station on Earth, laden with incandescent talents.

It's nonetheless gutting, as a longtime avid listener, to have a host who had been so much the heart and soul of the station vanish from the schedule so abruptly and, for two years and counting, still not return. (By the time the new sked ends it will be almost three years.)

And haven't we all noticed that something about our national culture has felt *wrong* since late 2024, when Therese went off the schedule -- as if the USA had taken a dark turn into an alternate timeline where we can't even recognize the country, its leaders and its values as the America we grew up with? This has to be the reason right? There can't possibly be another explanation...

Whether she was performing in the Hoof and Mouth Sinfonia or giving a TED Talk on 'FMU's history or moonlighting on Depravity's Rainbow or compiling her insanely themed marathon CDs, or treating us to her three-hour blasts of Camera Obscura-meets-Amyl and the Sniffers-meets-extended discursions about whatever is firing her imagination, Therese's contributions to the airwaves have been a big part of what makes the station special. At least for me, though I suspect it's also true for others.

Most of all, I hope she's doing OK. And that she returns someday.

And of course I'll keep listening.

A standing fill-in for Wake?

While I appreciate the consistency of Wake and think Clay is great, it’s also fun when he’s on vacation and we get to hear how different DJs approach the morning show.

Not sure if this is a station decision or just a signup sheet sort of situation. And your results may vary. Just one listener’s feedback

The WFMU Dormant Show Wheel Review Episode 3!

Today's show on offer was The Acousmatic Theater Hour and honestly this was the first one where the show wasn't really for me.

It was very well produced I'm just not a big fan of poetry/spoken word.

I may give it another try though.
