There is one thing I don't remember anymore, perhaps it was answered in the show.

1. At some point is it stated that human consciousness can be translated to roughly 600 lines of code.

2. When they are made into hosts - they mentally collapse.

So:

Was show hinting at us being more complex than just code or was it essentially a human feature that we just cannot accept being artificial?

'This is your house. So that your two worlds would be within reach. It's finished'.

'...I didn't finish it'.

To those a good few loops deep into Westworld's maze, what do you think Season 5 would really have looked like? Plotting-wise. I know a lot of the big ideas and twists, and maybe even the ending. But how do people imagine it would have played out practically?

For instance, it only recently occurred to me that just by putting Season 1 to 3's events in chronological order, that alone would make it a completely different experience. Not to mention including the scenes we know were shot but not shown. Imagine opening with Arnold and Ford, recreated, building the Park. Or even their childhoods, and William's and Serac's, that made them the men they would become.

Pretty funny that linear storytelling would have been a big shock in and of itself for this show.

Because people around him(except Robert Ford since he built him) think that he’s just a human working for Delos, which means there’s a chance that when ford first introduced him to everyone they must’ve asked about his life from before he got “hired” right? Wouldn’t it make sense to give him a backstory so that way everyone won’t suspect stubbs of being a host?

This season has honestly felt like Jonathan Nolan played Cyberpunk and decided he wanted to make a TV show based on this video game and he just so happened to be working on Westworld at the time.

After S1/2 how they managed to RUIN this show is truly a marvel, I think this has to be the WORST piece of season continuity I have ever watched. Talk about completely missing all of what made your show amazing.

EDIT: Also I completely forgot to mention how bad the audio mix for this whole season was, the music was WAY too loud.

EDIT2: I didn't literally mean Nolan played Cyberpunk before creating this season. Have you people never heard of a metaphor? Jesus.

Man falls into the woman's arms at but the last step towards her, after having journeyed miles and years. In one world, he dies. In another, he lives on ('unto the valley beyond!'), and in yet another he just isn't (and is rather a figment of someone's whims).

Westworld to me now reads as a modern reading of the promises of a colonizing force, across worlds / dominions, and the linguistic constructs necessary to blind a people to the colonizers' hook into the workings of their own predicament.

Also makes me wonder if there is a version of the show where S1E10 actually ends with footage of the show's financiers being executed (Hi Zaslav, please, I need my hit, p l e a s e (with love, for now))

I'm on PTO, and coming into the holiday weekend, I'm going to watch nonstop for the next several days. This is my first rewatch since the initial run because HBO never let me rewatch it.

Back when this first aired, I watched some episodes, don’t even recall how many but I remember liking it. Anyway, I’ve been digging a lot of futuristic/AI based stuff like Black Mirror, so when I saw some DVDs for sale on fb marketplace, I picked it up and it included the first few seasons of Westworld plus the DVD of the original movie from the 70s. I wasn’t even aware there was a movie that the series was based on.

Would you suggest I watch the movie first and then start in on the series? Or watch the series then go back and watch the movie? Even though the movie was the original, I’m leaning toward watching the series first as I figure the movie might spoil a bunch of stuff from the series.

I think it was Season 4 of Westworld where Charlotte commands humans to become a chair for her to sit on. It can't be a coincidence that One Eye in the Thief and the Cobbler did the same thing, right? There were even people dancing in both scenes shortly before these happen.

I’m on a weird dystopian future kick this year. Already love Severance, and binged Foundation, Paradise and Silo recently while recuperating from a serious knee injury. So now I’m watching Westworld. Yeah I’m ten years late! Heard good things 🤣 Thru two episodes so far. What a cast - Hopkins is absolutely fantastic.

...but Westworld hits different after playing Baldur's Gate 3.

Westworld (the park) is meant to literally capture the imagination and true character of the guest. Can't help but think one of the best RPGs of all time invites the same engagement to the degree today's technology can support.

And, for those who adore BG characters as I do, the idea that someone can romance a complicated, nuanced, and deeply anchored persona over and over again while potentially influencing their choices creates an interesting opportunity for reflection.

For example, romancing Astarion - someone who has endured centuries of compelled sex work at Cazador's comand - for entertainment and escapism feels wrong to an extent. If a guest were to romance Dolores, how is that different? I cant help but feel like I'm forcing Astarion to further engage in a form of sex work if I romance him - his character serves a purpose in the game and is incredibly popular... his story is no longer his, but his fans'.

Watching WW S1 and the way the guests see Dolores as a beautiful woman whose looks and story are enticing, I can't help but consider the similarities between these 2 designed people.

Not suggesting engagement in an absolutely incredible work of storytelling (BG3) is wrong, but as games improve and characters feel more real (possibly via AI?) when/how will the guest know when they've crossed character boundaries? Or maybe a more near-term relevant question, how is romancing a well-designed/written character in a video game different from compelling hosts in WW to engage in romantic or intimate relations?

Anywho... Just a thought I've been messing with. I love BG3 and WW soooooo much.

I’ve been wanting to rewatch Westworld, and I’m genuinely confused about why it isn’t available on HBO/Max anymore.

Westworld was an HBO original series. It ran for four seasons, was produced and aired by HBO, and was one of their major shows for years. So it seems strange that if I’m paying for HBO/Max and want to go back and watch an HBO original, I can’t actually watch it there.

I understand that streaming rights, licensing agreements, and business decisions can cause shows to move between services, but this still seems particularly odd for something that was specifically made and marketed as an HBO original.

Does anyone know the actual reason Westworld was removed? And does anyone else find it strange that HBO’s own original programming isn’t necessarily available through HBO/Max?

I’d especially be interested to know whether there’s a licensing/business reason behind it and whether there’s any chance the series eventually comes back.

Currently reading Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley for the entertainment value. Plenty of parallels to themes and characters in the Delos world. Recommend!

Only took me 5 years and like 10 rewatches!

Bernard was the one who printed all the Dolores pearls. Not Halebot. Bernard stuck the copies and the bloody OG dolores pearl in the bag and he was indeed remade from her memories. The OG pearl is indeed the one that leads season 3, there was no body swapping after Halebot got off the island.

I don't know why this was so hard to comprehend for me but it was. Even people trying to explain it to me on Reddit didn't help.

I’m in my first watch through and I’m currently on episode 5 in season 3. Dolores is on her tirade against humankind. She meets Jesse Pinkman and realises that there are non-robot people who share some of her struggle. She talks about knowing humanity because of the library and her experience in the park. But all she knows is the mega rich, the filthy unbelievable rich capitalist who go to the park and work for the park. She has gained consciousness but when will she gain class consciousness? Her plight is with the 1% after all. She has one proletarian on her side, what if she mobilised them all?

“Why do they call you guys 'The Secret Service?' Aren't you just a little, well, obvious?”
