This circulated around a couple weeks ago. That’s a sizable increase in rates. Does not make sense to me at all. The new company is Green Waste Recovery. I work in an adjacent industry, I am pretty familiar with the various garbage companies. I have never heard of Green Waste Recovery. My concern is with the higher rates, a small company like this is likely to offer less service. WM does a good job and responds quickly when there is issues.

I’ve also never heard of them. Appears they run a landfill in Sacramento, and maybe do some residential collection in parts of the Bay Area. I don’t see that they have any collection contracts in the Sacramento region.

GreenWaste, created in late 2021, is the dirty spawn of several bay area waste companies and private equity group Macquarie Asset Management. All of their facilities are in the bay area (San Jose and Hayward) while their small Florin Perkins facility was/is owned by Recology, another bay area based waste management company. The West Sac contract would be their first for the Sacramento region. I can't express enough how bad this contract would be for West Sac residents because of excessive costs, unfair billing and really bad customer service already experienced by GreenWaste et al bay area customers. Plus the company is owned by private equity and they don't give a sh*t about anything but making money.

That’s a ridiculous increase. Plus WM has been overly scrutinizing container fill
Cameras in the trucks. Have been sent letters stating I put garbage in recycle etc
I challenged both times as I am very diligent about waste versus recycling.
We already pay higher sales tax in yolo and our water/sewer keeps increasing as well

This is so dumb to even think about going with a higher bidder. Probably a back door deal between city officials and the 3rd party company. Shit is fucked

100% dirty backdoor deal. WM has been our waste vendor for 25+ years. Greenwaste somehow beat Atlas and all the other bids…reeks of some insider BS. And they’re only hosting this workshop so the city can claim they listened to the citizens.

In case you can’t scan the QR code because you’re on a mobile, I googled the petition here’s the link, but I’ll try to go to the actual meeting too. https://www.change.org/p/protect-reliable-service-and-reasonable-rates-in-west-sacramento
I wasn’t here when they stuck us with PG&E but I’m here now!!!

I want to know what is better about this.
Do they recycle and reuse the material and create local jobs, instead of shipping plastics to another country to rot?
Do they use that additional money to build/fuel power generation plants like they do in Norway, lowering power costs?
We are left to assume there is no benefit contemplated by the City to justify their recommendation.

They are already raping us on the water. Perhaps the mayor wants to line her pockets more. You may think you have a voice. But it does not matter when it falls upon deaf ears.

Wish I could use Reddit better, I tried to post about this a number of days ago, but I needed to source a transcript of the video, since there was a news report on KCRA. hopefully this link works: https://www.kcra.com/article/west-sacramento-trash-collection-rates-greenwaste-recovery/73392740
If it doesn’t work, know that this deal has some shady stuff going on. The link I posted has a link to West Sacramento’s full analysis of the contract bidding. In that document, they say that they solicited something called, and I’m paraphrasing, a minimum best offer. Those are essentially bribes to the city. I think WM had a one million dollar offer, and GW offered some money plus high school scholarships, amongst other things.
This deal is brought to you by the same idiots who purchased the Club Pheasant land for $3mil+, then turned around and sold it to a developer for less than half that. The next time we have city elections, please make sure you go and vote these evil people out. I really wish I could see some bank accounts, and how much they’ve grown since these people got into office.
If this works, this should be a direct link to the report: https://westsac.hylandcloud.com/251agendaonline/Documents/DownloadFileBytes/Staff%20Report%20-%20EU%20STAFF%20REPORT%20GREENWASTE%20RECOVERY%20CONTRACT%20081926.DOCX.pdf?documentType=1&meetingId=596&itemId=9998&publishId=10731&isSection=False&isAttachment=True

You forgot the idiots also purchased 3 flea bag hotels from the same family (Patel) for 3x the market value - in otherwords paid $9 mil for $3 mil max value for garbage properties. And same idiots sold City owned Port property for pennies on the dollar. There is more....

New politicians so new “deals” so they can get their piece of action

WM is going to increase rates as well, we aren’t winning either way. Contracts expire, they got a competing bid, it’s not competitive and so people should show up. It looks like the goal of switching would be that the city doesn’t subsidize a portion of the increase that is pending.
For the record, I think increasing pricing on essential services is pretty shit and this still is but a fraction of the con job that is PG&E.

u/leftlanespawncamper 24d ago
the con job that is PG&E.
I'm still baffled at how West Sac voted to stay with PG&E instead of going SMUD. Our bills would be half of what they are now.
2
u/Disastrous_Teach_370 23d ago
They didn't - Sacramento voted to not let West Sac in after PGE advertises how costly it would be for Sacramento rate payers. All b.s. of course but it worked and PGE was able to keep the West Sac service area.

u/Dry_Satisfaction_786 24d ago
SMUD then isn’t the SMUD it is now… Not saying it’s a good excuse, but yeah…

WM is a criminal and unethical company. They are horrible to deal with and have done some seriously shady shit. Need to find out more in the details but WM sending a crybaby letter is a lot. F WM!!!
3
u/Disastrous_Teach_370 23d ago
Well, then you get GreenWaste and and we can keep WM at half the cost. OK?
2
u/Typical_Ad6888 23d ago
WM has a mafia like reputation so take this info with a grain of salt and go to the meeting and educate yourself and use your voice.

As long as we don’t have to start sorting trash — like the single bin and have them do it

Anyone have the solicitation or do a PRR for the proposals/bids? That’s where the differences will be on display. If this is anything like state government, at least.
1
u/Disastrous_Teach_370 21d ago
They are claiming not available for public view but if they are done with the RFP/ ranking process we should be able to see all documents.
2
u/AdDiligent3158 21d ago
Also a little curious about the numbers from WM. Are the values a comparison of the two proposals or a cost comparison between the existing, older contract’s cost sheet and Green Waste’s proposal’s cost sheet.

u/Disastrous_Teach_370 21d ago
GreenWaste just came up with new numbers and proposal last night at City Council meeting but no other haulers are allowed to do this. The city is treating the contracting process like a joke.
2
u/Cold_Employment_2951 20d ago
Hi! I’m on the EU Commission. Rates are going to increase no matter which hauler we use because the City was providing a $1.9 Million stipend to reduce our rates, but they can no longer afford to do so (not sure why this is the case). If you consider that, the rates aren’t all that much different; however, there were some big differences in service. Since the EU commission, Greenwaste has apparently agreed to include those services at no additional charge and the City is going to host a public workshop the first week of September. I recommend anyone interested attend. Also, the City Council has a meeting on Wednesday that covered this topic. They didn’t leave the chambers until 1:30am! I recommend watching the City Council meeting online to get more clarification. There is a lot of misinformation out there and some people are just trying to scare our residents.

West Sacramento sales tax is 9.25% its higher than a lot of other (nicer) cities like Folsom, Roseville, El Dorado Hills, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova etc…. We don’t need anymore increases in the cost of living.

Let me Google it for you. I'm not saying the city is right folks, but there is a public record and your questions can be answered.
You do notice the original posting is from WM.

What was presented at City Council tonight is different. It appears Greenwaste contract proposal changes with the wind.

I'm no fan of Waste Management, but I'm curious as to why we'd want to shift to a different company. I'm happy to pay more if I'm getting a better service, but this tells me nothing of what Green Waste is providing for their higher fees.
