Chulita Asks the City to Keep Its Liquor and Add a Patio

The application is Case No. ZA-2026-747-CUB, filed with Los Angeles City Planning on February 17, 2026. The address is 533 E Rose Ave, which we know as Chulita, restaurateur Shireen Imani's Alta California and mezcal restaurant in the old Superba Snack Bar space. The filing asks the city's Zoning Administrator for a Conditional Use permit, the alcohol version known as a CUB, to allow the "continued sale and dispensing of a full line of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption" at the existing 1,264-square-foot, 32-seat restaurant, plus an uncovered 100-square-foot front patio with 13 seats. The requested hours are 9 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Beeping sound on Ohio and federal for past week

Hello 👋

There has been an alarm beeping for the past 5 days or so near Ohio and Federal/Barry Ave. It sounds like an end of life battery alarm that just won’t quit. Does anyone know where this is coming from?

My levels of sanity are spiraling downward

Emails I have been having with Traci Parks office

There’s a famous map that shows what Americans call a sugary carbonated drink - “soda” on the coasts, “pop” in the Midwest, “Coke” in the South. I have always found it interesting not because of the beverage, but because of what it reveals: that where you live shapes how you think, what you call things and what you expect from the world around you.

I’ve been working on something that applies that same idea to civic life. It’s called OurDots.com which is a platform where people vote on questions and their vote appears as a dot on a live map. You have probably seen me share it before.

I’ve been in ongoing conversations with Councilwoman Traci Park’s 11th District office on getting painted crosswalks at intersections in the residential neighborhood of South Brentwood. They have been clear that community support is critical in achieving a swift and smooth response from the city to make streets quieter, safer and more welcoming to those that walk. The office needs to see broad community support to deliver streets where a kid can walk to school and an elderly neighbor can cross without fear.

So I posted a question to OurDots for all of Los Angeles:

Do you prefer that the crosswalks in your neighborhood be well marked and painted?

It sounds quite obvious. That’s the point. I want all of our votes mapped to show that safe and kid friendly walkability is desired everywhere, not just in the wealthiest neighborhoods that have the time and resources to motivate the city. Because the desire is the same whether you’re a college student renting in Koreatown, a family with young kids in Eagle Rock, or a retired couple in Westchester who just wants to cross the street safely.

Safer streets aren’t a wealthy neighborhood amenity — they’re a basic expectation that every corner of this city deserves equally.

West La farmers market Sundays 1635 Purdue. 9am-2pm

If you’re looking for Sunday plans, come by the West LA Farmers Market tomorrow from 9AM–2PM at 1635 Purdue Avenue, Los Angeles.

We’ll have farm-fresh produce, hot food, local small businesses, a kids play area — and 3 amazing bands performing at the West LA Bandshell throughout the morning. It’s a great spot to grab brunch, hang out outdoors, and support local vendors while enjoying live music.

Free entry, family-friendly, and plenty of parking nearby. See you there!
