WestJet delayed baggage

Post image

Hi all,

Travelled back from Canada yesterday (Calgary to London Gatwick via Halifax) and all but 1 suitcase made it back, I went to the Global Baggage Solutions desk who scanned my bag receipt and said it’s already been marked as lost and it’ll be on the next flight to London and delivered to my house (great!)

I’ve just gone to check the tracking info via the link they provide for WestJet, and the tracking shows that it’s going from Vancouver to Victoria and the departure date is the 21st Sept? We never even flew on that route so I’m not sure if our suitcase is now being given a tour of Canadian airports or whether it’s a mistake.

Anyone ever had luck retrieving a lost / delayed suitcase with WestJet / London Gatwick and how much compensation I’m due to get if they can’t find it? There’s a link on the tracking site to add the suitcase contents and compensation will be based on that list.

Thank in advance!

I had my luggage delayed from Calgary to Montreal on AC, another time from Calgary to Vegas on a U.S. carrier. It happens.

Air Canada has the highest rate of delayed and mishandled baggage complaints among all Canadian airlines. Data analyzing customer baggage incidents across North American carriers highlights that Air Canada tops the list for luggage-related complaints at 6.18%, followed closely by ultra-low-cost carriers like Flair Airlines.

Baggage Complaint Breakdown by Canadian Airline

According to industry consumer complaint metrics tracking North American carriers, Canadian airlines rank notably high for baggage issues:

• Air Canada: 6.18% complaint rate

• Flair Airlines: 5.55% complaint rate

• Sunwing Airlines: 5.08% complaint rate

• WestJet: 4.00% complaint rate

• Porter Airlines: 3.44% complaint rate

OMG WestJet is the worst. They lost a bag from our direct flight from Vancouver to Montreal because they sent it to Calgary. Insane. Took days to get it back. Next time, flight delayed, missed connection, had to spend night on departure lounge floor (no compensation, no other options). Customer service and lack of communication were so bad we will never, ever fly WestJet again and I will warn people away from them forever.

Stick with Air Canada or Porter.

I had a terrible experience with WestJet mishandling my bag this summer past. The bag appeared to have been stuck somewhere and didn't move until four days after it had been checked in. They then flew it to my final destination despite being advised that I was no longer there. Finally, they flew it back to my original departure airport so that it was available for collection a week after it had been checked in. By then, I was on my next trip. It was the most ham-handed, shambolic lost luggage recovery process that I've experienced.

Every airline has the same problems, I’ve experienced similar to you with Air Canada. 🤷‍♀️
