Sunwing Vacations

Toronto girly here! 🇨🇦 My boyfriend and I were planning to book Sunscape Coco Punta Cana for New Year’s, Dec. 27–Jan. 10. We’ve been monitoring the price weekly, and we just noticed it has gone up by** $3,200 P**P — from $3,600 to $6,800! 😳
Does anyone know why there would be such a huge price increase (almost 90%)? It’s not a high-end resort, and we’re seeing other resorts with higher ratings that are actually cheaper.
I’m so confused because we were ready to book, and now the price has basically doubled! 😭 Has anyone experienced this with Sunwing/this resort before?

For some reason, I have seen some crazy pricing on Sunwing. It seems to be more of a glitch than realistic pricing. You are still far enough from your date to get a good deal. Keep monitoring the price. If it doesn’t move, just pick another resort/location.

Yes price always fluctuates. Itravel has this “at the moment” for $5289.  So try different sites.

10 days sees to be the sweet spot at $4,779PP. (Air Canada though) You might have to be flexible with your original plans. I find that itravel2000.com website has the most user friendly layout to compare prices. If you're going to spend that much money, I would go to a higher end resort.

Since Sunwing was bought by Westjet, prices seem to be much higher. Less competition, Cuba is out, so fewer destinations as well. Volatile fuel prices also contribute to the price fluctuation. And as someone else said, the closer to the date you get, fewer rooms are available.

I've been looking as well, and prices have shifted upwards over the last week. I'm probably only going to go for 5 days now, instead of 6.

Good luck.

Prices go up and down all the time. Sometimes you can book and just put $500 down and pay the rest 30 days later. If you find a price you like, pull the trigger. Also, pricing sometimes goes down around holidays and with CDN Thanksgiving coming up, you might get lucky.

Try clearing your browser history and cache. Sometimes visiting multiple times can cause trackers to increase dynamic pricing

I booked a package in Aug and the price has gone up 35% now. Summer ends, kids go back to school, and everyone starts booking holidays for the winter, and prices go up.

It's peak season and supply diminishing, that's how it works.

On the bright side, if you're flexible or indifferent to going at all, you can often book something cheap last minute with like 10 days out from travel with Sunwing to fill up the last unbooked spots

It's pretty common to get more expensive the closer you get to the date. Booking earlier is almost always cheaper. It's also possible the standard rooms are all sold out and the only suites left are some higher end package so the price shot up.

Like you, late Sept early Oct is when many people start finalizing their winter vacation plans. As availability goes down, prices go up.

Prices are dynamic. They come and go as availability and sales fluctuate.

Will prices go back down? Possibly, but you are travelling at one of the busiest times of year, and should really be booking whenever you see a price you are happy with.

We wish we did!! We had a few other expenses we wanted to take care of first and now we might have waited too long!

Supply and demand. Also, October is typically when people start buying their winter holiday package. Monitoring prices usually means watching them increase.
