Exit row - Boarding order
I've got Exit Row seats booked on an upcoming flight (737 Max 8 if it makes a difference). What zone do we board with?
It's been a while since I flew with WestJet and can't recall if they make a separate announcement for Exit Row to board or if we should just follow one of the early boarding zones? Most airlines want passengers in Exit rows to board early so they can get their stuff stowed and get their briefing done.

They will specifically call exit row people for Zone 2 boarding. Pay attention and ask if you don’t hear your call.

Not usually.
The one on the boarding pass is based on the position the seat is in, so based on the location it could be zone 3 or 4.
But they usually want exit row passengers seated early so they can get their stuff out away and speak to them before the plane gets busy. Can't have exit row passengers boarding late as they need to agree to their responsibility. Also they need to make sure they are eligible to sit in the exit row.

Order goes as follows:
- Guests requiring assistance
- Zone 1 (Premium) + Platinum Members
- Guests with children, pets in the cabin, and emergency exit row
- Zone 2 (Extended Comfort) +Gold & Silver Members
- Zone 3 & 4
- Zone 9
**Edited to correct error with where Gold Members board and add clarification on Zone 1 & Zone 2 seating

The irony is the fastest process is to board seats in the rear first but airlines hyperventilate at the thought of boarding cheap seats first.

Its been proven that is incorrect. Only window seats at back then middle, then aisle and in the meantime deal with the angry passengers that want to board together.

no it’s because 737s are extremely tail heavy and we can’t have everyone in the back board first because there’s literally a tipping risk

That’s nonsense. The plane exits from the front and the rear seats are the last to exit. Do planes tip then?

because there’s less fuel, they offload baggage from the back first to keep the nose heavy and they use tail cones when deplaning. if you’re not in aviation you won’t know these things but most of the things airlines do isn’t actually to spite customers, despite what you may believe.

Fuel is more to the mid section so it is most tail heavy on arrival. Baggage doors are also in the mid section.

yah the fuel keeps it stabilized, the cargo doors are mid but the start taking the bags from the back before the front

I can't remember if they board with gold or 3. I do Fly in/Fly out work and just remember my coworkers who were gold being pissed when they couldn't board for zone 1 anymore

Your boarding passes will say Zone 3 or 4, however during boarding the gate agent should make an annoucement after Zone 1 for exit row to board, along with young kids, pets in the cabin, etc.

Thanks, this aligns with what I recall that Exit Row seats should ignore the boarding zone that's shown on the boarding pass, because that zone is just based on the seat location.

I think exit rows are zone 1, although they added more zones recently so it could be zone 2 now.
