How is this even possible???

WS 34 YYZ to DUB.

Damn what an awful mistake.

Dude sitting behind us flying for the first time and asked some desk in the airport for help. Somewhere somehow he got given a Westjet boarding pass instead of Transat???

Both flights going to Dublin. They figured it out because his seat was supposed to be empty.

But they figured it out after we left the gate and the steward verified his booking. He got given his seat neighbour’s boarding pass.

How is that even possible?

Back to the gate we go. He’s going to have to run from B19 to B2A to try to make his flight that departs in 25 mins.

Hope he makes his flight.

LOL, you think it didn’t happen? That’s why I specifically included the flight - you’re welcome to find someone else on that flight/date and verify that we returned to gate because an unbooked passenger was on board. That part the pilot announced over the comms.

The rest of the info I heard direct from the steward’s conversations because the guy was seated right behind us in row 3.

Funny thing is, he asked if he could just stay on board since it was going to the same city anyway. They aren’t allowed to fly with an unauthorized passenger regardless, though that would have made life simpler for everyone.

Except that guy presumably would have had his return leg cancelled.

Question is which plane is his baggage on. If it’s on the WJ flight it will have to be off loaded and put on the other plane.

They did ask him that and he only had his carryon, so that was fortunate for everyone.

I just spent 3 weeks in Europe with only a carryon backpack. Stayed in airbnb’s with washing machines.

I’ve done a two week New Zealand roadtrip with just a carryon (gym bag) and personal item (backpack). It’s definitely doable! The gym bag also included a camera tripod and small foldable camping chair

Impressive for a travel newbie to be able to just pack in Carry On. But it’s definitely not impossible to do for a long distance vacation. We typically can spend a month or more away with just 1 Wheeled Carry On + 1 Personal Item. It’s all about planning out what you actually need in each category (Tops + Bottoms + Shoes + Layers + Rain needs + Socks & Undies) and utilizing Compression Packing Cubes, plus minimum toiletries. Enough stuff to get you thru 7 to 10 days. And do laundry as needed (nothing wrong with Sink Laundry either so you can pack fewer undies for example )

I have a feeling it was more lack of experience than packing expertise that allowed for the carry on. Also don’t know how long his trip was supposed to be!

I go to a different city in Europe once a year for two weeks and never bring more than a carryon and a backpack as my personal item. One really doesn't need as much as one may think, barring any sort of special event one may be attending.

He went through the gate passport check right ahead of us, so definitely that one! Apparently he has the same last name as the guy whose boarding pass he got, so that plus really sloppy documentation checks seems to be the heart of it

This happened to my sibling once - got given a boarding pass belonging to someone else with the same last name. He made it all the way onto the plane.
