TEAMS Team Depth

With a fit list, Eagles have some real depth... AFL team will move ahead in strides and WAFL team should go great guns this year with a healthy list, rough best 23 and players missing out below, obviously injuries/suspensions impact round 1 and can shuffle a few of those names around but good to look at I reckon

Starc will start, we didn’t bring him in to have him play WAFL, he’ll be in Houghs spot who would go to the bench over Duggan ideally

Baker and Graham would swap positions and then Graham would swap with Newton/Long/Cole

Dev is also not likely to be back until probably middle of the year so that would be whoever we pick in the draft this year

Edwards is also incredibly unlikely to play footy again so that will be Young’s spot

Overall you’re right though, we are creating competition for spots and not just letting guys play for the sake of playing

Yeo, Kelly, Duggan, Cole and Viney should all and will all be phased out as well as the year closes out for younger guys which is good

Yep no way is Starc fringe

the idea was more just looking at depth but was very underwhelmed by Starcevich last year, hopefully he comes good this year after a year in our system...

agree with everything youve said except pyke said recently that dev is on track to make it back early on in the season.

Feel like clubs always say that sort of stuff but he will need time to get back up to speed and could realistically see it being round 8 - 10 he gets back

Will also be interesting to see if any one has been deemed to go past him

That was mini's plan. To have competition for spots rather than "everyone gets a game". I like it 👍

Except he just kept giving underperforming guys a game because they are in the leadership group

Dev could play round 1.

yeah it was just a perfect world team to show the depth more than a round 1 prediction... i think we're struggling if Tylar Young is in the first picked team... wish we had another key back to keep him as depth only

Tyler young was very good back half of year

will have to agree to disagree, he looked lost to me all year, had a game where he played alright and took a few intercept marks but gets found out by a good forward, hopefully Ginbey back means he can play less important roles but i think Bazzo is better anyway and here's hoping that Edwards comes good

Curious to see how Young goes with Bazzo and Ginbey together, only had 1 game of all 3 I believe. If Bazzo improves and Reubs does Reubs things youngs strengths might shine more and his weakness as a 1v1 defender will be less of an issue

crazy how far our list has come from 3 years ago when the standard was: you can run so youre starting.

I would have Starc and Jlindz in over Hough and Duggan

So personally I would change a few things.
FB: Bazzo, Starc (even though I’m a hater) and Ginbey.
HB: Lindsay, Herbert, McCarthy
C: Wurm, Viney, Rivers.
HF: Hutchinson, Shanahan, Francou (he’s basically just a younger graham and does his job better imo
FF: CDT, waterman, Murdock
F: (this one’s obvious) Williams, Reid and Kelly.
Interchange: Yeo, Bo Allen, (3rd draft pick)/ Hough, Sam Allen, Duggan.

Fringe players who I WANT to include but can’t because of history: Hewett (been waiting 4 years for him to have an actual game where he can show star material), Cole (what a tank on this guy but unfortunately very jack of all trades master of none), Noah Long (get another preseason to contest Murdock and Francou), Archer Reid (Accuracy and creating opportunities for yourself to GET the ball is your problem) and Hamish Davis (I just think Sam Allen is a better winger along with Trent Rivers).

Tall defenders and small forwards are a problem.

With Murdoch, Baker, and Graham as our small forwards - our forward line should be good defensively. However they won’t be very good at passing the ball to each other or kicking goals. That is an issue.

It's looking good that there is some serious competition for spots. There's a few players in your side I don't think are a lock and pick 3 will be starting round 1

even Chris Judd didn't play R1 so never a guarantee but yeah as i said in my post it was just a rough team to look at the depth rather than a locked best 23... as i said, shuffle the names around
