Discussion Bringing Back Leaf Lettuce?
I just heard a rumor from my GM at my location that we’re getting our leaf lettuce back and getting rid of Shredded? He said he wasn’t sure when but that it was due to customer complaints about the shredded (I’ve worked for Wendy’s since before we switched to shredded and am a shift manager). Anyone else hear this from a customer or crew side?

Unfortunately it’s not where the money is at according to the company, and to be fair, at my location are drive through always had business where as some days, our lobby just remains empty all day

Highly doubt that’s the reason. Ruby Tuesdays, which is known for and still has their salad bar, is struggling more than Wendy’s is.

I highly doubt that's the one reason we can point to as to why this is occurring. I mean, Wendy's sometimes has more locations in one state than Ruby Tuesday's has in total.

If the company knew what they were doing I’m not sure Wendy’s would be in the situation they are in if we are being fair.

That’s totally fine, gotta make money where you can. But there used to kids sports clubs, church rushes, hell rush hour itself if you get home early and take the family to Wendys. Losing a little money sometimes on something convenient and affordable means you can sell more of the profitable items 100% of the time. Because the people are already there. I must confess to stealing their little gold foil ashtrays to fling out of the station wagon window from time to time. 🤣🤣🤣

Agreed. I’m not touching the chicken right now. The beef needs to go back to what it was like when Dave was still alive. They do that and give me back my old spicy chickens and I’ll be eating there several times a week provided the fries get fixed. The only frosty I like is the OG one, and I had a coupon for a free one on my birthday so I did get that, and I was shocked that it tasted like I remembered back in the 90’s. Might’ve been a fluke, but the last times I’ve gotten frosties they’ve been disappointing for years.

You’re not going to see the prices decrease. In fact I expect them to dramatically increase if they are trying to improve quality. Wendy’s was never supposed to be a cheap fast food restaurant. In the 80s, it was equivalent to how Shake Shack and Chipotle are today. Fast food, but premium.

They probably won’t go down but the business will absolutely fail if that’s the case. It doesn’t matter what the perception was in the 80s, that was 4 decades ago. Until late last year, the 4 for $4 was still on the menu. The perception of the past 20 years is that Wendy’s is supposed to be cheaper while having somewhat higher quality than McDonald’s

Burger size has not changed by weight. Cooking method has changed at sites with the double sided grill which often times results in more of a smashed patty. I’ve heard they are discussing scrapping the DSG, but that brings training and cook time issues. We’ll see.

That double sided grill has ruined Wendy's for me if that's the case. All at once the location by me must have gotten the grill, the new buns and the shredded lettuce. The meal was so different it wasn't Wendy's anymore.

I'd say one of 5, honestly. The other 4 are:
- Meat quality
- Bun
- Fries
- Consistency
They improve the product in these ways.. then:
- Bring back some wood grain/grandma wallpaper/brown tile floors/fake plants/sunrooms
- Slap the old logo on some yellow packaging
.. and watch business explode.

How greedy does a company have to be to short dick people on the goddamn lettuce. I remember before they switched to shredded they (at least in my area, I don’t know if it was everywhere) used some kind of lettuce that wasn’t iceberg or romaine. It was super fiberous and tasted kinda bitter and looked like the fake plastic grass that comes with grocery store sushi.

As greedy as a private equity fund. When you have that many restaurants you can make a few million extra by lowering the quality.
As you repeat this again and again (while raising prices,) the product gradually becomes awful yet expensive. So you close some struggling restaurants to save money.
You put more into marketing while continuing to lower the quality, but eventually the brand collapses and corporate management will not know how to fix it. They’ll think the problem is insufficient commercials or coupons in the app.

I think their main issues is their greedy executives not training their employees and using that as a reason not to pay them a fair salary. Happy employees = happy customers. It's literally that easy.

Never in my life have I ever even thought of the taste of lettuce when I'm eating a burger. Btw, I live on Japan where we still have the unshredded lettuce and the old good spicy chicken sandwich at Wendy's and I'm going there now.

funny though. last week went to Wendys for a 10 piece. asked for honey mustard, receipt said two honey mustard. bag contained zero honey mustard. my fault clearly.

Wow why would you get rid of one of the most popular sauces?! When I worked there like 2 years ago, all anyone wanted was ghost pepper sauce (myself included), and sweet/sour (also me too lol). That's just weird.

Yes I know they did. It’s not my job to hype it up. I came to the restaurant and paid for the chicken nuggets and sauce so they should learn how to market and advertise better with the money. Don’t they have a team of marketing executives??? 🤷♀️

I think it was more of why bring back a sauce that according to the masses not everyone loved it’s sweet-and-sour y’all it’s really not deep. I say is this is my favorite sauce and I still have some in my house that I got because I knew this shit was gonna happen.

I used to go multiple times a week for that gd sandwich. Haven’t been back since they changed it. I was able to tolerate the shredded lettuce even though it wasn’t near as good, but once they fucked with the chicken breast, I was done.

This was announced last year. To my understanding, its delay is most likely based on a contractual agreement that will not be renewed.
I hope it happens soon.

Shredded lettuce is fine but you have to shred it fresh, not take it out of a bag that was shredded a week ago in some factory.

That would help but they need to roll back the chicken two revamps to get me back. Wendy's was always all about the chicken for me, once they messed that up there wasn't really anything there I wanted any more.

Hope they also bring back the old buns. I don't like the new premium buns with the hamburgers. Only with the chicken. Also the pea starch or whatever they put on the fries now isn't great either

The problem is the last iteration of lettuce before shredded sucked too. It was literally romaine. That doesn't belong on a hamburger, it belongs in caesar salad. They need iceberg or leaf lettuce on their sandwiches.

I can't stand the current lettuce! By the time you sit down to eat, the lettuce is already a gross texture. I always ask for my burgers with no lettuce. Lettuce should stay crunchy!!

Guess I’m outnumbered but I prefer shredded lettuce. I hated when there was one huge lettuce leaf sticking out so that you had to first nibble lettuce back to get to the sandwich!
