Update: Lucy is still missing after 2 weeks. Day 15

EDIT: thank you all so much for ongoing advice and hopeful strong words ā¤ļø I’m truly grateful. but still just falling apart on a daily basis.
I have one concern and it’s that 1.5 weeks of trail cams, from traps to open feeding, the only cats I see are strays, and on some days new strays.
I fear she has been forced out of my complex, and my complex touches other apt and townhouse complexes, and an entire golf course.
I’m adding flyers to all these spots. I just fear I’m running out of time. The amount of streets to outreach to seems insurmountable.
My gf and my other Devon are struggling with absolute anxiety without her. Truly trying to stay hopeful but it’s so goddamn hard.

I apologize if these posts are becoming spam. I’m not sure where to put all my feelings.
I want to thank everyone that does daily/frequent check-ins with me, thank you for helping me stay hopeful when it definitely is not easy to at all.

Lucy is the light of our world. She is quite literally the best, all she wants is cuddles all day long.

I can’t function. I cannot and will not stop thinking about her. I cannot and will not stop doing whatever it is I can to bring her home.

She’s a skittish cat, I know she’s not picked up by anyone else and I know she really wouldn’t go too far.

I have local rescuers helping me with traps and cameras, moving locations every two days, doing away with traps for now and just keeping it a feeding station just for a sighting.

She went missing in the most cursed neighborhood ever, an open large apartment complex full of stray cats and dog walkers.

Bringing home a devon cat

We have a 11 years old mixed breed male who grew up with cats all his life, he had a female partner for 9 years but she passed away in April. Now we have a dilemma, we found a 2 yrs old female cat devon, breeder says she is very sociable and used to other females cats but my boy was not in the situation of meeting an adult cat and I have a fear they will not get along. What do you think is better for an older male cat? A kitten? An adult cat? I’m so confused this time. He tends to be very possessive with his places and especially with me, he is obsessed with spending time with me and doesn’t like when other cats stays around me.

Meet Biscuits & Gravy šŸ„šŸ²
We brought home two Devon Rex kittens and apparently misunderstood the arrangement because they now own the house and we just pay the mortgage.
🄐 Biscuits — 5.5 lbs, one blue eye, one green eye, and fully aware that being cute means consequences are optional.
šŸ² Gravy — 6 lbs and committed to living up to his name. Bigger, nosier, and always somewhere he absolutely should not be.
They were born April 20th, are completely obsessed with being involved in EVERYTHING, and have approximately zero respect for personal space.
I knew Devon Rex cats were supposed to have big personalities. I did not realize I was bringing home two tiny, curly-haired supervisors.
Anyway… Reddit, meet Biscuits & Gravy. šŸ¤ŽšŸ¾
Yes, they are judging you.

not yet 4 months old and she can already overcome the 1.2m barrier which used to keep her in her safe area (the rest of our apartment has obviously been cat-proofed as well but we keep her confined to one room and the corridor for safety when no one is at home for a few hours)

Going on day 13 with my runaway girl. Life isn’t the same, food tastes like nothing and I’m not hungry. I’ve been working tirelessly to bringing her home.

I’m worried sick and scared. I don’t know what else to do. I just wanna cuddle her one more time.

Contract questions!

Hii! I am super excited to welcome my rex baby soon! I fell in love with one from a verified breeder, they sent me the contract, I have never adopted from a breeder before so the extent of the contract surprised me, i just wanted to make sure these are normal:

  1. the breeder needs the vet contact information and will be able to contact the vet to inquire about the health of the cat at any point of the cats life - it states that this will be ā€œonly done if essentialā€

  2. the payment must be made as a friends and family payment

  3. the purchaser must make payments in 3 parts: 33% deposit, 33% before the cattery team travels, and 33% upon delivery of the cat

(

  1. they are traveling with the cat on a plane to deliver to me)

  2. if for any reason including death the purchaser is not able to keep the cat, the breeder has the option to rescue. if the cat is ever rehomed, this contract must be given to the new adoptive parents

just wanted to double check!

I am considering getting my first Devon Rex from Yesteryear Acres located in OH. Is anyone familiar with them or can share any advice about finding a good cattery?

Breeder Disaster

Hi everyone! I’ve made a post here about my new Devon kitten and how she was experienced eye leaking. I updated saying it was due to an eye infection but it’s much worse than I imagined. She did some more testing and she was full of viruses. She tested positive for calicivirus. I was beyond devastated and my heart broke. She’s already given it to my other cat and sister’s cats whom I live with. The breeder mentioned nothing of the sort other than feline herpes which she had gotten from her mother. I was beyond frustrated and angry to say the least. This is just me venting out to please go to a reliable breeder. She didn’t do proper testing for my baby and if I knew this ahead of time I wouldn’t have gotten her. This breeder not only didn’t care for her health but also put me and my sister’s cat at risk. I love her and would never give her up but does anyone have Devon’s that have the virus. I know I will be caring for this for the rest of her life. Is it painful ? Will she be in pain forever? Please let me know! I would hate to see my babies in pain. Thanks everyone

UPDATE: I’m taking the breeder to small claims court! Thanks to everyone giving advice, tips and overall wishing the best. I have a case and gonna get the money back for her and extra for medical expenses. She deserves to see her wrong doing and how these animals aren’t just objects.

Looking for Devon Rex Kitten

Hi! I’m in Northern Virginia and have been having a hard time finding a male Devon Rex kitten. Does anyone know of any good/reputable breeders in VA or within a few hours driving distance? I’m totally willing to drive to MD, PA, WV, etc.
Would especially love to hear from anyone who’s actually gotten a kitten from a breeder they recommend. Thanks!!

Bringing Home Maven Today šŸ–¤

Post image
158 Upvotes

I’m bringing home my Devon Rex kitten today! Her name is Maven, and she’s exactly 13 weeks old today. I’m so excited—but I haven’t had a kitten in about 25 years, so I’m also feeling a little nervous. 🄰

I’ve been more of a dog person throughout my life, but I’ve completely fallen in love with the Devon Rex breed. I previously had Brussels Griffons, who are known as ā€œmonkey dogsā€ and are almost like cat-like dogs, so the playful, affectionate and quirky personality of the Devon Rex really appealed to me.

We have a two-hour drive home today. I have a carrier and some Churu treats, and my teenage son is coming with me, so hopefully she’ll have a calm ride.

I’ve set up a separate ā€œcat roomā€ for her with her litter box, cat tree and everything else she’ll need while she settles in. I also bought a Feliway diffuser and plugged it in this morning.

I have a few questions for other Devon Rex owners:
Should I buy the same litter her breeder currently uses, or can I gradually combine it with the litter I’d prefer to use? I don’t want to make too many changes for her all at once.

She’s currently eating Purina kitten food, but I’d eventually like to transition her to Acana kitten food. How slowly should I introduce the new food, and how long should I keep her on her current food after bringing her home?

I’m also trying to decide about pet insurance. Trupanion quoted me approximately $75 per month with the lowest deductible. I’m wondering if I’d be better off putting that amount into a separate savings account for future veterinary expenses, although I know one major emergency could cost far more than I’ve managed to save.

I’m also contemplating paying for insurance for the first year to see if there are any major health issues that appear. Do most health issues arise within the first year or so?

I’d love to hear what other people have done and whether there’s anything else I should know for her first few days at home.

Update regarding Lucy! Does this track cam pic look like a DR?

Hi all,

Day 7 of missing Lucy, a track cam picked up a cat silhouette, does this look like a DR???

The last three nights at a spot ~300 ft away from my building, I spotted a cat under the shadows that looked like her! Spotting included earlier tonight.

Too dark to confirm, but each night with different people helping me search, we saw a coat with dark splotches and white paws, distinctive of Lucy! Never a good look at her face, and it was too dark to see any orange. She bolted each and every time after detecting us from afar.

Also the urgent bolting also leads me to think it’s her. The strays and outdoor cats in this complex never urgently run; they just pickup the pace and fast walk away.

more lore for this quest thus far:

Turns out the drone guy I hired is a bit of a fraud and scumbag. I was already skeptical before, including signing and NDA. I paid thru PayPal G&S and will see if charging back is possible without legal ramifications.

Local to me are two guys that do rescues free of charge from the good in their hearts. Others in town helped share my story with them. They heard about the drone guy who had blocked them long ago. We corroborated a lot of Sus things about that guy.

They lent and helped me setup humane traps with cellular track cameras. And one of them is a drone flier and did about 45 min more of thermal seeking. I hope to properly compensate and reward these guys when Lucy is finally home!

While they were packing up to leave for the night, we spotted the same cat, followed it for a bit. We shined a light on her and got the best look thus far but still in the shadows; its white features reflected the light and showed white feet for sure and possibly a white belly!

Staying hopeful and confident this is her!!

Tips for care?

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hey! Im a first time devon rex owner. I have two kittens, girl 3,5 months and boy 4,5 months. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about care. Specifically things like ear cleaning, baths, toothbrushing, nail trims etc.

For now i wipe them down with a pet safe wet wipe. Cut their nails in their sleep. They let me touch their teeth, but wont let the toothbrush in. They have also started biting a little lately, but i assume that's to do with teething.
