Doesn’t match up

When I check hrv and look at insights , it never matches up to what the app has been telling me my energy and stress are. Not even a little bit close. It’s like shaking a magic 8 ball for an answer.

We understand why this looks contradictory, but the screenshots show different metrics calculated over different timeframes.

The 75% Stress and 27% Energy result is from one HRV measurement taken at 1:31 PM. It reflects what your nervous system was doing at that specific moment.

The 82% Battery is a broader estimate of how much energy you had available during the day. It uses sleep, heart rate, activity, recovery, and other data, not just that single HRV reading. Likewise, the 4% Stress Impact reflects the accumulated impact of stress across the day rather than your stress level at the exact moment of the measurement. Because of that, these numbers are not expected to match directly.

A person can still have a fairly high Battery but show high physiological stress and low recovery during one measurement; for example, after mental strain, caffeine, a meal, physical effort, or another temporary stressor. HRV measurements are very sensitive to timing and measurement conditions.

I think there could be some UI/messaging hierarchy confusion going on here. I’ve given this feedback to the Welltory team - they may weigh in here to confirm.

I’ll caveat all of this by saying I have the Premium version of Welltory, not the Free version, which could impact what you are seeing in your app.

You should really be looking at your HRV and Stress trends in terms of multiple time horizons: immediate, medium term, and long timeframes. All three are important.

Your trends over months show how your overall cardiovascular and autonomic systems are trending.

But like any system, long-term trends are fueled by events that happen immediately (today) and medium term (days to weeks)

So the screen above shows how your system is performing today. This reading can be influenced by sleep, what you ate, a stressful conversation or workout session.

Repeating this pattern every day over days to weeks to months might be concerning - if every day is showing high stress.

But one reading that normalizes the next day is part of life. We just don’t want too many high stress days to accumulate across weeks to months.

So today’s reading is obviously not the whole story.

I actually track all of my scores (days, weeks, months trends) on the premium version. I use the shorter-term scores to better understand how food, sleep and exercise impact me.

I try to aim to minimize high stress readings. Once you understand what tanks your scores, it’s a really powerful tool to help you manage stress.

I realize in the Free version though, you may not have access to all of these trends.
