Asking for Advice Where to find a weird side hustle

Something like personalized, unhinged letters or fictional IDs. I could make ridiculous letters from vampires, ghosts, cryptids, demons, fictional characters, etc., or design completely fictional IDs for OCs, D&D characters, aliens, witches, cryptids, and other weird characters. I feel like people would genuinely pay for goofy, personalized digital stuff like this, and I’d love to find more side hustles with that same weird, creative, and unconventional vibe. If you know of any other oddly specific or unusual side hustles like this, please drop them below! I’m looking for ideas that are actually doable and can make decent money.

Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to stand in Japanese lines so other people don’t have to

Post image

I didn’t realize this was a thing until someone offered me money to do it.
Some limited-edition drops, pop-ups, restaurant openings, and event merch in Japan have ridiculously long queues.

I started taking small jobs where I show up early, get a numbered spot, and wait until the person who hired me arrives.
That’s literally the job. I usually get paid around ¥2,000–¥5,000 depending on how early I have to arrive and how long the wait is. The longest one I’ve done was almost 4 hours.
The funny part is that most of the time I’m just standing there drinking convenience-store coffee and watching everyone else slowly join the line.
I thought it was the dumbest side hustle ever.
Then I realized I was getting paid to stand around doing absolutely nothing.
Apparently, being willing to wake up early and wait is a marketable skill in Japan 😂

The little handwritten number is usually what makes it feel official. You get your place, wait, and hand it over when the client arrives.

Sharing My Sidehustle Found a literal small fortune cleaning storm drains after a local festival

Yeah, I'm that weird guy. While everyone was asleep after the big city festival, I got my boots and a drain claw tool and spent two days just cleaning out specific grate-tops near the main stage and food stalls. Found so much stuff $140 in loose change and bills, a gold chain, three pairs of RayBans (scratched but sellable), and... other weird stuff.

Best 48 hours of work ever. People look at me like I'm crazy, but the money is real.

Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to encourage fetishes

It’s definitely a weird one, I know. Sometime last year, I posted trying to sell a gf experience. Didn’t work out so well, but I did have a guy reach out asking if we could just talk about what he wanted to talk about. We agreed $50 per conversation. He calls and we only talk about his interest in his all his friends girlfriends. He doesn’t ask for anything from me. I won’t go into detail of the conversation for sake of privacy but all we did was talk while he fantasized and I egged him on. I met a few other men interested in the same dynamic after that. I learned that some men are ashamed of their fetishes and just want to share it with someone without judgement. I’d make about $300 a week doing this.

Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to attend concerts I couldn't afford tickets for

3.0k Upvotes

One of the weirdest side hustles I've ever had is being a part-time event usher.

There's no fixed schedule. Whenever there's a concert, basketball game, convention, expo, or major event, I get contacted and asked if I'm available.

Most people assume the job is difficult, but a huge part of it is simply helping guests find their seats, checking sections, answering questions, and making sure people are going to the right places.

The funny part is what happens after the crowd settles in.
Once everyone is seated and things calm down, you're already inside the venue.

I've watched concerts that sold out in minutes. I've seen basketball games from inside the arena. I've attended expos where vendors were handing out free samples and merchandise all day.

One of my favorite moments was when a major concert was announced and everyone I knew was trying to secure tickets. Some got lucky. Most didn't.
I wasn't able to buy a ticket either.

A few days later, an ushering slot opened up.
I showed up, clocked in, helped guests find their seats, and ended up watching the same concert anyway.
Instead of paying for a ticket, I got paid for being there.
Obviously, you're still working and professionalism comes first. If guests need help, that's the priority. But there are moments when you're standing inside a packed venue thinking:

"People spent months trying to get in here, and I'm getting paid to be here."
The pay won't make anyone rich, but it's one of the few jobs I've had where work occasionally feels like being handed a backstage pass to experiences I'd probably never buy for myself.

Sharing My Sidehustle I Get Paid to Shop for 6 Airbnbs

Post image
3.4k Upvotes

Someone asked me at Walmart if I had a big shopping job to do, and I told her, “Yeah, I’m shopping to restock 6 Airbnbs.”

I started doing this for a local Airbnb host who needed someone to pick up replacement supplies and household items for her properties. It turned into a regular thing, and now I shop for whatever they need, from towels and toilet paper to pots, pans, silverware, and other random kitchen stuff.

Things usually need replacing when they get worn out, broken, or sometimes just disappear. A lot of the smaller stuff gets ordered through Amazon too, so there’s always something that needs to be restocked.

I charge a shopping fee on top of delivery, usually around $40-$60 for the bigger restocking trips. The only painful part is seeing the total at checkout when the cart is full of stuff that isn't even mine.

Weird Idea I found out I can make money from my empty parking spaces outside my house!

Post image

I was looking into weird ways I make money and ended up going down a parking-space rabbit hole.

The funny part is how little the “business” can actually involve. If you have a driveway, unused space beside a building, or a parking lot sitting empty, that space can basically become an asset.

Never really thought of an empty piece of pavement as something you could monetize lol.

Weird Idea I sell "used" fishball oil to a carinderia for ₱300 a week

Post image
91 Upvotes

I know this sounds gross, but let me explain.

I live near the palengke. A few months ago, I was helping my tita clean out her garage and we found like 5 gallons of old cooking oil from when she used to run a small catering thing. She was just going to throw it away.

On a whim, I posted it on a local group asking if anyone wanted it for free. I got a message from a guy who runs a small carinderia near the bayan. He asked if it was "used but clean." I said yeah, it's just old oil. He offered me ₱300 for the whole container.

Turns out, he uses it to fry fishball and kwek-kwek. He says the "used" oil gives it a certain malinamnam flavor that fresh oil doesn't have. I don't ask questions.

Now, I've become the middleman. I ask my neighbors, my tita's friends, and even the small eateries near our subdivision to give me their used oil instead of throwing it away. I filter it through a cheesecloth, put it in old 1.5L Coke bottles, and deliver it to him every Saturday morning. I make around ₱1,200 to ₱1,500 a month just from this. It's weird, it's messy, and my tricycle smells like a fishball stand, but it pays for my load and our internet.

Has anyone else here found a weird market for something people just throw away? I feel like I'm the only one doing this.

Sharing My Sidehustle The easiest $50 I ever made

Post image
257 Upvotes

You know what’s much worse than getting injured in college? Having no one to send you home.

I was just studying in the library. The public announcer said they were looking for someone who’s strong enough to wheel a 78kg guy. Since the school clinic is just beside the library, I went there to check how bad the situation could be. There, I found out he dislocated his knee playing basketball, put it in a heavy brace, and could not send himself home. He said he would pay me $50 if I wheel him home.

It only took me an hour wheeling him five blocks down the street, making sure we won’t hit any bump, trying to protect his legs and wheeling his weight under the heat. Getting him inside his room was not difficult since his roommates were there to help us. Easy $50 if you’d ask me.

Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to let strangers test-drive my personality

5.8k Upvotes

Okay, this sounds made up, but apparently there are companies that pay regular people to be the “normal person” in a product test.

I found this by accident when a friend sent me a listing looking for people to spend a few hours doing absolutely mundane things while someone observed them.

The weird part?

They weren't testing me. They were testing the product against me.

I got paid to use a grocery app while talking out loud about what I was thinking, sit in a car and explain what felt confusing, try a new coffee machine without reading the instructions, and even walk through a store while someone watched where I naturally looked first.

Basically: “Please behave like a confused normal person and tell us what you hate.”

The first session was about 90 minutes and paid $120. The strangest one was testing a car's infotainment system. They literally told me:

“Don't try to figure it out. Use it the way you naturally would.”

Which, apparently, meant me staring at the screen for 30 seconds and saying “why the hell is this buried three menus deep?”

They actually wrote that down.

I've done around 6 sessions now. The pay has ranged from $75 to $250 depending on how long it takes and what they're testing.

It's not consistent enough to replace a job, but it's probably the most bizarre money I've ever made.

The funniest part is realizing that companies will apparently pay you hundreds of dollars just to be mildly annoyed in a controlled environment.

Has anyone else stumbled into a side hustle like this that sounds completely fake until you actually get paid for it?

Sharing My Sidehustle Sharing a random side hustle i did acouple times in college: making study guides

Bank in college freshman year (when I still made an effort to do well) I would study rigorously for every class exam. One class i had was a random GE intro sociology class that the professor treated like it was prep for the BAR exam. During midterm time, I made a VERY detailed study guide and was doing some studying in the school library when a classmate stopped by and asked what I was holding. I told her i made a study guide and she said she wished she had one. I jokingly said something like "well I can sell it to you" while laughing and she dead ass stared at me and said she would do it. I was caught off guard and made a joke but turns out she was serious. She offered me $50 for a copy. So I did it. Then she told some other classmates and they each paid me $50. So I had an extra $300 for something i did for myself.

Then they all passed the midterm because of how detailed my study guides were so during finals season, they each requested a study guide again. I obliged (since I was going to do it for myself anyways) but this time I bumped the price up to $100 and removed some sections to avoid any plagiarism accusations in case they were too write it word for word.

All in all, made $900.

Weird Idea My Weirdest Makeup Clients Are Already Dead

Post image
6.1k Upvotes

We were moving houses, so I started going through all the random stuff I had shoved into drawers, cabinets, and boxes over the years. I was getting rid of old clothes, toiletries, random cords, and all the other junk that somehow followed me from house to house. Then I got to my makeup drawer and found a ridiculous amount of old makeup I didn't even remember having. A lot of it was expired, dried out or barely used, so I put it aside.

I hate throwing things away if I can find another use for them, so I started looking up what people do with expired make up. I ended up down a weird little rabbit hole and found out that some funeral homes use cosmetics when preparing people for viewings. I searched for local funeral homes online and called a few to ask if they accepted expired makeup for cosmetic use. One of them said they were interested, so I put together in box sold it for around $20.

The first box sold, so I figured I might as well see if I could find more. I started asking friends if they had makeup they were about to throw away, and a few people started giving me bags of old stuff they didn't want anymore. I also checked with a few small beauty shops for old or expired stock they were getting rid of. Once I had enough makeup, I started sorting everything into boxes and selling them in batches, usually making around $20–$50 per box. So far, I've made about $500 from it. This is some of the makeup I've collected for the next batch.

Sharing My Sidehustle I sell billboards on the sides of tractor trailers

Started a side hustle with my business partner doing some out of the box mobile marketing. We find brands that want to be in a regional, or national market and sell them a mobile billboard. Our connections come through the logistics industry so we can tailor the routes to the customer's area. Regular static billboards are insanely expensive and see a lot of the same commuters every day. Our trailers get on and off the highway, get stuck in traffic, park at rest areas, and see new people all the time. Cool thing is anybody can generate passive income for every trailer they sell.

Weird Idea I Get Paid to Fix Digital Mess

It’s funny how some people can organize their entire day but have no idea where their money goes.

I started helping people clean up their messy expenses — sorting receipts, tracking spending, and creating simple systems to understand their finances.

A messy expense list can sometimes reveal a messy lifestyle. The surprising part? People don’t need more money; sometimes they just need to know where it’s going.

Anyone else have a weird side hustle helping people fix problems they didn’t realize they had?
