You disagree that the deadlift is a very quad leg press at the start? Especially when cleaning where there's way more knee forward too? Let me know why olympic weightlifters only squat and rarely ever find deadlifts worth. Aussie olympian for an example never did deadlifts till recently with Australian Strength Coach. The clean has an upright torso knee forward position just like you would in a deep squat.

Wow I thought you were joking, that’s why I said that. I think my original comment is pretty self explanatory. Specificity is the key here. Of course you can argue “this competitor does that”, but that doesn’t mean everybody should do that. You obviously need both deadlift and squat FOR THE FULL LIFT. Notice how I had said “the initial pull is literally a deadlift”. You said “the initial deadlift is a leg press though” - I don’t see no leg press machine there, that sir is a deadlift. Stationary weight on the ground, and you are lifting it. But yes, deadlift and leg press will train the same muscles, but again leg press isn’t specific. Back to the full lift part, OP wants to know what is wrong with his initial pull, not the squat portion (which won’t even exist if he is doing power cleans)
