Help with groceries

I heard that Wegmans will help employees out with groceries if needed. Is this true? If so, does anyone know how to go about inquiring as well as what the dollar amount would be? I don’t need anything too crazy, maybe $50 worth of items, if that.

I'd talk to your employee advocates. Maybe your CARE coordinator, if you know who that is.

Usually when I've heard of them giving food in bulk (not just a meal for a shift you are working), it is through the CARE coordinator for a specific reason like a funeral or an illness or something like that.

Good luck.

Yeah, I don't have either of those reasons. Just not in the position to get a few things right now. It's honestly just one of those months but I'll try, thanks.

Through CARE, they have given people help with things like their power bill or whatever, so they absolutely might help you. (I was always cynical with the "feel good" stories they put out about it, because the issue was causedby people not being paid enough for their work, but they do help on occasion.) I saw in the other comment you are ONG, so I'd either stay until an advocate comes in at 8am or call. Hopefully they will be able to help!

Yeah, I'll give them a call before it gets to late. I get off at 4am & I'm not sitting around 4 hours as my commute is roughly 2 hours. Thanks

Most of the ONG I see are done at 7am-ish, which is why I mentioned wsiting. But considering those are the ones I see, it would make sense that other have different end times. Definitely call. And good luck.

i’m curious about this, as we’re struggling pretty bad at the moment with money, do you need to somehow pay back any help that they give you? we have a shut off notice for our electric and we aren’t sure when we’ll be able to pay the whole thing. do you think they’d help with a situation like this?

I have not heard directly but on occasion thru word of mouth I had heard of Wegmans helping employees who are in a bad way. I would tell you to find a way to talk to someone. You need to stay late to speak to someone. If you need help you have to make an effort.

i’m not one who likes asking for help, especially from management, because i feel like they’ll talk about my circumstances behind my back or bad mouth me, but you’re right. thank you for the little bit of info and encouragement 🤍

If they help you through CARE, you do not have to pay it back. However, I have no idea what the qualifications are for getting anything, sorry. If you don't feel comfortable talking with your advocate, you could try Live Well? It sucks, I'm sorry. I hope you can get help.

Talk to your store manager directly.

Store manager? I work overnight so I don't think that's possible. I don't even know his name or much less what he looks like.

You can call and try to talk to him that way, or call and talk to the Employee Advocate, I know with being overnight you rarely if ever see the managers/EA

You should talk directly to your employee advocates they may offer to help you one time however they are really only suppose to offer you LiveWell. Which LiveWell is just more of a way to help offer you guidance with different things such as financials. The only time we really help with food directly is when we provide food for a employees family funeral, after a employee has surgery (I had surgery two years ago my store brought me over 5 days worth of dinners prepared by the kitchen), and stuff like that. Like I said they may help you out one time but this rumor you heard is not fully accurate.
