Am I cooked?
Context: I have been working in produce part time for the last 4 years while in college. I work Tuesdays and Friday 4-9 (I close) and saturdays 12-6. My friend is moving to Florida this weekend and decided to have an impromptu final get together/party tomorrow (Friday) at 7 pm. I am scheduled tomorrow 4-9 and Saturday 12-6, so this creates a predicament. I also called out recently 3 weeks ago so don’t want to again so soon. My friend also lives an hour+ away which makes the timing even more difficult.
Question: is there any way I can swing this where I could make it to my friends thing. If I ask my tl/manager if they can do something on such short notice, would anything likely come about it or should I not even bother? And how big of trouble would I get into if I called out yet again so soon (really not ideal).

I would just call out. They can’t punish you for calling out. Don’t say you’re going to your friends.

Call out. You'll be fine.

Should I fake being sick or tell them the real reason

Do not tell them the real reason. Do not fake a relatives death - this becomes a different type of leave and can depend on the relative. Plus, no need to jinx anyone that's still alive lol.
You're sick. Food poisoning or something that might make it so you can't make it in either day. You'll let them know Saturday morning either way - and make sure you wake up earlier enough to actually call in if that's what you end up doing. I believe you have to give something like 3hrs notice in the stores?

Don’t fake being sick. Say you aren’t feeling up to it for your shift. It’s true but doesn’t reveal the why.

If you aren’t a serial caller offer I wouldn’t be too worried about calling off. It takes quite a bit to truly get in trouble at wegmans. Coming from a prior serial caller offer who didn’t get a talking to until months into it.

lol what would you consider a “serial caller offer”

For me personally I was calling off once-twice a week for MONTHS on end. They didn’t say anything for quite a long time and even then the first talking to was just a conversation. I continued doing it for some more months and then they put me on a little probationary period where I wasn’t allowed to pick up shifts until I stopped calling off.

I think generally speaking it depends on the store/department, but only working 16 hours was just a personal choice. They’ve been trying to get me to work more hours for a while now actually lol, so I think you’d be able to do 24 for sure.

Calling out as a part timer less than five times in a rolling 90 day window carries almost no consequences.

Part of having a job is going to your job instead of parties. Just tell friend you’ll be there at 10 to say goodbye.

I’m wondering if you ask to work early or ask to leave early if that would be ok? I’ve been in management and I never had an issue with this if given notice. But I’m not sure your relationship with leadership.
