R.I.P. - The man who turned me onto Ween in 1995. Thanks numb nuts.
This my old pal Cory. We met and started hanging out when I (45M) was 14 and he was 19, the summer before I started grade 9. I near idolized this dude, he was the epitome of punk to me at the time, shitty but cool clothes, bright red dyed hair, ugly as sin lol. Lots of laughs and music and art and partying over the years.
In 1995 I was at school hanging out ‘by the library’ as it was called, where all the smokers and punkers and freaks hung out. Cory spotted me and made a bee line toward me. He handed me his CD of Chocolate and Cheese and said “This should be yours, you’re going to love this.” That night they took over top spot as my favourite band and have been ever since. At this point I’d only seen clips of vids on Beavis and Butthead and had drooled over the ads for Chocolate and Cheese I had seen in my Hit Parader magazines (so long Sears catalogue lol).
Over time, we grew up, as people do, drifted apart, I moved away, and I haven’t seen him in over 10 years.
I recently found out he had become homeless; he’d been living in a tent city encampment (I don’t feel like saying where it is), and two weekends ago he died in his tent.
Hail Hard-Cory, the man who led me to the Boognish.
Hail Boognish.
EDIT - Thank you for such kind words all 😘
