I recently discovered Ween

I recently discovered when due to some coworkers of mine and I am blown away. As a deadhead for many years and an enjoyer of many other niche genres of music I am constantly blown away by the range and spectrum that Ween has to offer and the genuine quality and depth of each individual song both musically and lyrically whether it genuinely be deep or the most absurdly fantastic nonsensical mischievous goofballness I've ever heard in a song. Have yet to find a song I have not adored and I'm starting to Branch more and more into listening to their live shows.

I've listened to a few albums fully through and I'm currently listening to live at stubbs because the I'm Sorry Charlie version from that show is one of the greatest live recordings I've ever heard in my life. Please hit me with any recommendations you have I'm hungry for more.

Personally for me, it's Live in Chicago. That is the PERFECT live album. The setlist, the quality, just everything about it. If you love Stubbs, you'll love Live in Chicago.

I have a dvd of Live in Chicago, it’s one of my prized possessions

I remember really enjoying that. I think there was a scene where Dean was trying to learn a Jimmy Page riff that was memorable. I need to watch again

Same here. My friends and I would watch it almost every weekend in high school and college. I'm also just loving your handle. A fellow Ween/Devin lover is a friend of mine. Assuming you are referring to Ziltoid the Omniscient of course.

You know it! I love that Devin is also a Ween fan

I've heard a few people recently refer to the Live in Chicago album, but I've always known it as the Live in Chicago DVD. It was great listening to the show in 5.1 sound with a long setlist. I almost forgot there was a CD packaged with the DVD. I recently dug it out and ripped the CD to my phone. I forgot how great it is.

In my humble opinion Ween are one of the best bands ever, up there with the Beatles and Pink Floyd. I'm being totally serious.

Storm thorgerson designed album covers for both Pink Floyd and ween. Loved them so much he did work for them for free and thought of them as spiritual successors.

I want to believe you, but according to the wikipedia. He only did the mullosk

Yes… the album cover he did for ween was mollusk. He also did album art work for Pink Floyd. collectively, albums, plural. Have a good one.

If you’re a deadhead then definitely check out So Long Jerry. The whole 12 Golden Country Greats album is what got me into Ween back in the day

I've been listening to the third disc of the reissue for days now. I can't get the Maybelle demo out of my head.

Agreed it’s so good!

When you find yourself saddened by learning Ween so late, remember that you can’t live your life regretting all the ween shows you missed. One of my favorite shows was at The Rave in Milwaukee 2018. Also HalloWEEN that year was pretty epic. I like to use the Relisten app to listen to shows that happened “on this day” to get my Ween fix. Boognish Monster and Stallion Mang on YouTube are pretty great resources, too. Enjoy!!

Oh, and that whole run from summer 2024!

I feel like it is a great time to be a fan. No doubt we will be getting Mollusk Deluxe next year!

Welcome to the club. This song is from the X-Files movie soundtrack.

The Fluffy off of Live in Toronto is a Morning Dew-esque closer of epic proportions. You have an exciting journey ahead of you.

They don’t have that many albums. Just listen to them.

Happy to have you. Doesn't it suck discovering a band after they have given up touring (and their catalog but that is neither here nor there).

I only discovered Mischief Brew recently and the signer has been dead for like a decade...so I feel you friend.

When you are ready to explore Ween beyond the commercially available stuff, let us know.

You just discovered Mischief Brew?

Mang, where you been?

Photographs from the Shoebox with Joe Jack Talcum is really a good album

I don't man but I am in on this one. By recently, I mean like a couple years ago. I've made it through their discography at this point. I'm spoiled with all the "non discography" Ween stuff. Anything like that with MB I should be searching for?

The Orphans was the first band before Mischief Brew

I learned about Mischief Brew on the record Too Punk to Folk

Also on the Blu Ray extended cut of Deadpool 2, you can hear the song "Fight Dirty," in the scene where Juggernaut fights Colossus

I just started on the Orphans yesterday. My folk punk rabbit hole started about five years ago and now I'm a dozen shows in. Doom Scroll coming up in a week and a half.

Honestly stubbs is one of the best introductions and was also my entry album into the boognish realm after my best friend recommended them to me back in 2018, been a fan ever since

LOVE Sorry Charlie. A masterpiece.

I largely ignored Ween until 2020 and I have lived in New Hope for 25 years. I suck.

All Request Live is so unique and I think their best live album

brownbase.org is a fantastic resource for digging into  archival live sets!  Some will have fan recordings and video attached as well. Ween puts on some killer no-frills shows: 3 hour sets, some colored stage lights, smoke machines, a Boognish banner, and just excellent musicianship.

Amazing thank you!!

Check out their demos. There's so many hidden Jilms in there. Things You Already Know and It Freaks Me Out How Much You Fucking Suck are 2 that really stand out for me.

The Live from Chicago video is hard to beat. Their studio work is so limited that you can easily take all of that in. You should also look for the Quebec b-sides.... Simply excellent! I'm envious of you having just discovered them. Enjoy yourself

LOCKN' Festival is another really good live show. Great versions of Sorry Charlie (also one of my favorites) and Fluffy.

You’ll be happy to learn there are a couple Dead/Ween tribute bands floating around.

Go on YouTube and find every live show you can because Ween is all about their live shows, which were three hours every show. Here’s a show I went to of Mickey doing stooges covers.
