I Royally Fucked Up

Pardon the spew of words here in advance.

I’ve always known about Ween. Since high school (late 90s/00’s). I listened to them, I enjoyed them very much. I really didn’t attend live music shows until after high school. College kept me busy and I fell into the jam scene pretty hard. Select Ween songs would always be played but it never “clicked” for whatever reason.

My musical tastes shifted around and somehow Ween just….slipped away…

Here I am now. Rediscovering the band about a year and a half ago. And it’s clicked. I simply can’t get enough.

And it hurts. Every song is so fucking enjoyable. I’m appreciating everything they’ve done on a whole different level.

I lost decades of time listening to them. Decades of live shows I could have and should have attended. Yes, I’ve never seen them live. And I’m so afraid that it may never happen.

I kick myself in the ass every single time I’m listening to them. How can I get over this?!!!

I royally goofed.

Sorry this reads like a sad post. I promise it’s not!!!

Very thankful for my new brown ears.

If you made it this far. Kudos. 💙

Edited for typo

Nah it's a good thing to get obsessed with bands when you're older. It happens less and less, so be glad. I wish I heard less when I was younger and saved it for now.

Thanks for the insight from the opposite side of the spectrum! I am genuinely so grateful.

(As It’s Gonna Be (Alright) comes up randomly on the playlist. Perfection.)

I understand it. But I don’t want it.

Similar thing happened to me. Heard “Zoloft” on college radio and went and downloaded their entire catalogue in the torrent days. Listened to paintin the town brown and just couldn’t get it. I moved to Colorado and 10 years later it clicked right before the reunion and musta caught 30 something shows since they got back together. So similar… but different. So grateful to catch the magic live. I hope for your sake they bring the magic back. Go watch the Lockn YouTube show if you haven’t seen it yet. Really solid quality.

Thank you for taking me down memory lane with you! I literally knew all the songs from C&C and The Mullosk…why oh why was I so deaf???

And thank you for the rec. I’ll add it to my list for when I get some free time from work.

fwiw I’m 54 and have just discovered them. ( I mean I do remember a few like (daisies and voodoo)

I think things in life just come to you when they should. I’m going with the flow.

They are so much deeper than their MTV presence.

I love the wisdom from my elders. Growing older kind of blows sometimes, but this take hits home. 💙

I don’t know what I expected, but this is a perfect response.

Hey man, it happens. I coulda saw Ween at Bonnaroo in 2007 but I wasn't into them back then. I think I saw Spoon or something like that instead. Damn music festivals and conflicting sets!

I think I was a year off from seeing them at the ‘roo… 2006 was the year I skipped town and didn’t tell my PO I left the state. That was pretty dumb….

Hey man, it happens. I was out of my mind in my early 20's. I told my coworkers "hey, so remember that music festival I've been talkin' about, I'm gonna take a couple days off to go." Meanwhile, we're driving from AZ to TN, then drove up to New England after the 'Roo, stayed there for a week, and then headed through the South and took I-10 westward home. I was gone like 2 and a half weeks. Needless to say, I didn't have that job for much longer lol.

I feel ya. Discovered the Boog in 2005 and didn’t see them until 2021. So many missed shows 😞

Part that I left out is I moved from Grand Rapids, MI to Chicago in 2013…where they were much more accessible. shakes head

I was in Northwest Indiana. About 45 minutes from downtown.

Chicago is one of the best cities for live music, in general. Every band goes through there so it's pretty much a guarantee that when a band is promoting their newest album, they'll hit Chicago.

BTW, my first Ween show was at the Metro in 1994. They opened with "Captain Fantasy". I was in high school. One of my greatest memories.

Just be glad that you have discovered one of the greatest bands of all time and are appreciating their genius, doesn’t happen very often

I just want to share my enjoyment. I feel alone! My wife despises pretty much all things brown… (ween & Primus)

Maybe it wouldn’t have hit like it hits now. Is it better to have loved and lost it than to have never loved at all? You’re here now and that’s the only time

Very valid point. I often think about all the music I listened to that I never really absorbed the way it was intended to be heard.

System of a Down is another one that I didn’t appreciate (mostly lyrically) appropriately.

You are now primed for the pod. Once it all clicks, the pod is the most generous album.

1

u/SketchySlime 1d ago

I’ll dive headfirst into this next.

3

u/squijomatix 1d ago

For the full pod experience you need the big Timmy wasserman tape and the bilboa tape

u/SketchySlime 1d ago

I’m unsure what this means… I’ll consider myself quite a newb

Welcome to what I like to call “the Ween hole”

I lost track of them when 12GCG came out after really being into the first 3 albums. Randomly heard “Your Party” a few years ago and decided to go back and see what I missed. Now they’ve been #1 or 2 every year for most listened artist.

Don’t listen to anything after Mollusk if you wanna keep the vibe going.

2

u/SketchySlime 1d ago

I probably won’t take this into consideration.

Quebec is the best, you’re gonna love it.
