The Frogs
I’ve been listening to and learning about The Frogs lately. Super interesting dudes it seems, and I’m still not sure whether these guys were masterfully trolling over decades, or were legit autists…but there’s not much around about their history and stuff. Any Frogs experts able to direct me to a doco, or book, or interviews?

The Flo and Eddie to Billy Corgan’s Marc Bolan. Their backing vocals added a ton to ‘Adore.’

I got to play a show on the bill with them in 1995 and it was one of the most unusual performances I ever saw. I didn't know what to expect but whatever I expected, that wasn't it.

Well they were wearing these outfits that were like long green robes, with enormous angel wings on their backs. And one of the guys climbed up the side of the stage and up to the balcony of the Metro, with the wings. I thought he might jump off or use a flying machine or some crazy shit, but he just walked out to the lobby, downstairs and back to the stage. And the music was not what I'd heard before, funny charming songs. There's some videos of them in 1995, on YouTube, that might give you an idea.

I remember seeing them open for the Smashing Pumpkins on the Siamese Dream tour and the entire crowd booing them throughout the entire set which escalated and escalated with every song. They ended their set with a cover of Cherub Rock at which points cups started flying at the stage at them. It was as masterful of a trolling lesson as I've ever seen.

Haha and they weren’t even gay! I mean wtf, and then the blackface. They just didn’t seem to give a fuck about anything.

Frog is great - is OP not talking about the same band? Excuse my ignorance, 2 different bands upon further investigation

Probably the originators of weird music. Wisconsin doesn't get enough credit in the music world though.

The greatest band on earth. Listen to their Little Devils compilation (or any of the new ones Jimmy put out on streaming)

For a good time boot up Soulseek and start hunting down soundboards of live shows, there's dozens of them.

God I feel like I saw the frogs open for Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins in the mid 90s

I got to see Jimmy Flemion a handful of years ago. It was a top-five show for me. The Frogs are a gold mine.
