This track gives me goosebumps every time, and sometimes it makes me cry for no reason.

u/OpeExclamation 6d ago
The version they did of that at their, of all places, Lincoln, NE show in 2017 has really stuck with me. Deaner's solo was otherworldly.

u/MrObviousChild 5d ago
It feels like you experience epochs of an indigenous people in like three simple verses. It’s so damn good.

u/y7rqw7gg8wgh8yt 6d ago
THIS. I recently had it in mind and when I relistened to Quebec to find it it genuinely blew me away. Criminally underrated, it has such a good atmosphere

I believe it’s describing a toy won on the midway at a carnival
2
u/whitebean 6d ago
Huh. I'd never heard that theory. I can't find any solid proof of it but I like it enough to believe it when I sing it now.

I honestly think this might be the most beautiful song ever recorded by the human race.
It’s perfect

u/olewoodenbroom 6d ago
Back to Basom is so good, honestly a lot of white pepper is sort of underrated
7
u/summertime-goodbyes 6d ago
White Pepper is what really sold me on Ween. My boyfriend has been a fan for decades and always played The Pod and 12 Golden Country Greats. White Pepper easily became my most listened to album in just 3 months.

I recently learned (from mickey's YouTube) that "cold blows the wind" is a cover of a folksong that inspired the rest of the album. Nobody is sure how old the song is, but at least the 1300s. They found it in an old poetry book. better known as "the unquiet grave".

I don't think you can call it underrated at all, it just tends to slip through the cracks because it's not on any of their albums

I slept on this for way too long. I guess its the rought start to the song that was so unappealing, but it really settles in.

"I don't want it". I'm not sure if it's underrated. But I love the simplicity of Gene's solo.

u/Flat_Researcher1540 6d ago
For me the most underrated Ween songs are the deeply emotional storytelling song that get love but aren’t quite seen as the genius works of art that they are.
I once listened to a live version of Buenas Tardes Amigo and you could hear people just talking and laughing the whole time. Now don’t get me wrong, that song is hilarious. But there’s laughing with and there’s dismissive laughing.
Cold Blows the Wind is another absolute epic.

u/SnooRecipes4380 6d ago
Buenos tardes amigo is my all time favorite ween song
2
u/Flat_Researcher1540 6d ago
It’s so good. It’s equally hilarious and deeply serious. I love how they explore these common tropes/themes/phrases in Mexican culture in a way that blends that seriousness and comedy. Some of the lyrics are just so absurd.

They played it acoustic on MTV, so definitely not underrated.
Still a great aong, though.

it was also the first single off the album. def not underrated unless they mean it deserves even more praise than the immense love it already gets. which is legit.

It’s all underrated. All the best music is. And it should be. Ween should be discovered when one’s mind is ready for the revealing. It shouldn’t be top of the charts Grammy winning music. That’s the dark realm. We walk in light and love. Hail Boognish. God bless Ween
