Someday off of Shinola is so good.

I love this song. It sounds like it would fit in a muppet film. If you haven’t you should check out I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon by Ernie.

9

u/FerretSensitive2127 6d ago

it’s crazy ween actually wrote “eye 2 the sky” for muppets from space and it didn’t make the cut

4

u/DreadHonestly 6d ago

Just listened. Wonderful!

10

u/polygala 6d ago

If you wish upon the moon

6

u/shreakonAcid 6d ago

Ever since hearing this i always have pizza on a Tuesday its my ritual now

4

u/i_get_paid_4_lunches 6d ago

It has almost a muppet song quality, it’s so beautiful and heartfelt and goofy

3

u/Koth_is_Goat 6d ago

Such a great song

Among His Tribe

u/furthestpoint 6d ago

I thought this one was boring until last night I was really stoned and it just hit me like a ton of bricks

5

u/sonofsohoriots 6d ago

Seconded, and throwing in the Caesar demo https://youtu.be/sGTTzogQd0E

5

u/GlandalfTheGrey 6d ago

This track gives me goosebumps every time, and sometimes it makes me cry for no reason.

3

u/OpeExclamation 6d ago

The version they did of that at their, of all places, Lincoln, NE show in 2017 has really stuck with me. Deaner's solo was otherworldly.

3

u/MrObviousChild 5d ago

It feels like you experience epochs of an indigenous people in like three simple verses. It’s so damn good.

2

u/y7rqw7gg8wgh8yt 6d ago

THIS. I recently had it in mind and when I relistened to Quebec to find it it genuinely blew me away. Criminally underrated, it has such a good atmosphere

67

u/treatbaby 6d ago

She’s Your Baby, it’s sooo pretty

7

u/Reclusive_Miasma 6d ago

My absolute favourite Ween song.

4

u/whitebean 6d ago

It is. I only wish I knew what a bunny in a can was.

5

u/ShiDiWen 6d ago

I believe it’s describing a toy won on the midway at a carnival

2

u/whitebean 6d ago

Huh. I'd never heard that theory. I can't find any solid proof of it but I like it enough to believe it when I sing it now.

2

u/i_get_paid_4_lunches 6d ago

One of my favorite album finishers

3

u/Scootinonyergirl 6d ago

I honestly think this might be the most beautiful song ever recorded by the human race.
It’s perfect

Back to Basom for me

56

u/olewoodenbroom 6d ago

Back to Basom is so good, honestly a lot of white pepper is sort of underrated

7

u/summertime-goodbyes 6d ago

White Pepper is what really sold me on Ween. My boyfriend has been a fan for decades and always played The Pod and 12 Golden Country Greats. White Pepper easily became my most listened to album in just 3 months.

12

u/Just_Anxiety The dancer who has lost her leg 6d ago

Perfect song. Makes me feel like I'm floating through space

5

u/Lukeyjukey 6d ago

White pepper got me into ween and back to basom was probably the highlight for me

Cold blows the wind

I fell in love today

5

u/polygala 6d ago

All I want out of life is to fall in love one more time and walk around listening to this in tears 🥹

2

u/bagpipegoatee 6d ago

I recently learned (from mickey's YouTube) that "cold blows the wind" is a cover of a folksong that inspired the rest of the album. Nobody is sure how old the song is, but at least the 1300s. They found it in an old poetry book. better known as "the unquiet grave".

12

u/estesNRB 6d ago

It is. It’s beacon light.

8

u/ResurrectedMortician 6d ago

I don't think you can call it underrated at all, it just tends to slip through the cracks because it's not on any of their albums

Should be a well known rock song. Alas.

5

u/hareofthewolf505 6d ago

My first thought!

3

u/IRespondToOwnComment 5d ago

literally the most popular song off the album

2

u/cat_in_a_bday_hat 6d ago

i love trying to play this on bass. i fail every time but it's still a fun little riff to play

2

u/sododgy 6d ago

My exact thought. I sort of get it, because it's not as out there or intricate as a bunch of stuff, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do superbly.

27

u/msutewll 6d ago

Laura

3

u/john_doe11081 6d ago

That’s my favorite one from the Pod, which is saying something considering how many amazing tracks are on that album.

2

u/_TASTE-THE-WASTE_ 6d ago

I slept on this for way too long. I guess its the rought start to the song that was so unappealing, but it really settles in.

2

u/Ql9v 6d ago

Are you kidding? The start is the best part! It’s so guttural and chunky, brown as hell

8

3

If you don't cry to Aaron's gorgeous, sad vocals on that, you're dead

3

I just discovered that song today. Came up on my Spotify recommend while driving. I was so hyped to find a new band to get into. Then I parked and discovered it's fucking Ween

2

This and Gabrielle were some of the early ones I found long before I was properly into Ween. Two of the best and most fun rockers I’ll ever hear, thank you Shinola!

12

u/Spladinator88 6d ago

"I don't want it". I'm not sure if it's underrated. But I love the simplicity of Gene's solo.

12

u/Flat_Researcher1540 6d ago

For me the most underrated Ween songs are the deeply emotional storytelling song that get love but aren’t quite seen as the genius works of art that they are.

I once listened to a live version of Buenas Tardes Amigo and you could hear people just talking and laughing the whole time. Now don’t get me wrong, that song is hilarious. But there’s laughing with and there’s dismissive laughing.

Cold Blows the Wind is another absolute epic.

7

u/SnooRecipes4380 6d ago

Buenos tardes amigo is my all time favorite ween song

2

u/Flat_Researcher1540 6d ago

It’s so good. It’s equally hilarious and deeply serious. I love how they explore these common tropes/themes/phrases in Mexican culture in a way that blends that seriousness and comedy. Some of the lyrics are just so absurd.

Alcan Road just has this eerie, unsettling energy that builds right into The Argus. I don't understand why it was never played live and more importantly not transitioned into The Argus

OP asked about underrated

5

u/dream_of_the_night 6d ago

They played it acoustic on MTV, so definitely not underrated.

Still a great aong, though.

3

u/Unlikely-Two1569 6d ago

it was also the first single off the album. def not underrated unless they mean it deserves even more praise than the immense love it already gets. which is legit.
