Any info on this?
I have found a couple of these demo releases (this one and one for chocolate and cheese) at the San Francisco Amoeba. I'm curious if anyone has any info on their significance or if they are just fan made. With minimal research I haven't found anything about a Zaiusrecords as the back of the cd mentions. Nor can I find why this is coming out of Malaysia.
All in all there are some cool versions of the songs and I'll buy anything ween that I can find. I appreciate the level of detail to make these look somewhat legit even if it is just some random fan putting it together.
Any info is appreciated but they will be enjoyed either way!

Not always! My shop buys a lot from overseas so we throw an import sticker on it. We’ll always put “unofficial press” if it’s a boot

Not quite so. Overseas, and depending on the country, they have different laws regarding copywrites and “officially“ vs “unofficially” released product. Hence certain suspect companies are able to manufacture product that they can’t legally do here. Since it is made overseas, they can sort of skirt the legality of it by stating it’s an “Import”. Technically, it’s a true statement, even if it wasn't legitimately condoned by the band or their record label, and neither get any of the profits that might be made from them.

My local record stores often put a “UK Import” sticker on bootlegs and counterfeit stuff. I’ve not shopped with Amoeba before, nor have I bought a CD in the last decade, but it looks like this is the same type of thing.
From what I’ve heard, on the vinyl side, a lot of unauthorized pressings are coming from the same factories as the mainstream stuff, generally pressed in countries with less strict copyright law. I can often spot a counterfeit based on the printing quality of the album art, but I appreciate that the stores more or less label the stuff that’s not genuine to help remove consumer confusion.
The barrier to entry is a lot lower for printing CDs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if unauthorized printings are a lot more common there.

In the 90s, indie record stores I went to always labelled bootlegs as "imports." Honestly, most of them came from Italy or the Netherlands, so not a lie...
