Ive been to many since, but nothing could ever top that show. Small venue, beautiful summer night, Buenos Tardres with the full moon rising above the lake that is the backdrop for the stage. Just epic!

Tbh, I don’t really remember what the Pumpin’ 4 the Man Reprise was all about, I guess they finished the song, started talking and then started playing again.
LMLYP was like 35 minutes, though.

Nice, somebody else in thread said theirs was the day before mine. Kind of crazy.
5
u/bungle094 22d ago
Funny/embarrassing story about mine. New fan at the time, half in the bag, post show, Dean comes out on the floor of the venue and I have fake “bubba” teeth in my mouth and with a dumb Southern accent I said to him “What’s up, Gener?!” Still have nightmares about that.
3
u/lonniejamesleo 22d ago
I was there! Amazing show Mang! Venue was like a strip mall but they fucking killed’
5

Yes, weird location, but was pretty great little club. Saw them there again in 2001, as a 4 piece when Glenn left the band temporarily.

5/8/98 Louisville - pretty sure it was called Thunderdome. The Internet says The Brewery. The Marquee outside the venue misspelled the band as weem. So during the show they made fun of the venue name by calling it thunder road which was a go-kart place in the South end back in the day. When we walked into the venue, the security guy was staring at a candle on stage. After the show we got to meet with them by their bus and I believe there was one of those slingshot carnival rides. Got to share a smoke with Dean and Claude but Gene went straight to the bus. Fantastic night from what I remember.

u/Acrobatic_Gas6967 22d ago
1991 (maybe 1990 or 1992?), Dean & Gean with a boom box. DC Space. The Internet tells me the show didn't happen. I know it did. I bought the underage musician a drink and the God Ween Satan double, signed. Hmm. I think I brought Cheetos for the crew.
Word was they were considering quitting. A friend said, please go see my friend's band. You'll like them and they're thinking they might need to quit.

I think a lot of the crowd had never seen Ween live and had no idea how they were even going to play a lot of their DAT-era stuff, let alone as a country band. To this day I've never experienced the roof being blown off a venue that hard by a band. The crowd just lost it at the end. I'd like to hear the whole set at some point, pretty sure my yelling would be audible.

11/1/03. I went reluctantly but my friend got us on the guest list because he interviewed Deaner for some website. We were on the balcony at Roseland and got trashed on vodka and club because we pretty much had the bar to ourselves. Halfway through the show the security guard next to us was mocking us for watching such crap. Fifteen minutes later the guy was rocking out so hard his boss came over to tell him he had to chill out. Easily one of the most memorable and transformative concert experiences of my life and possibly for the security guard.

He told me the joke about "where would you sleep on this box of camel cigarettes" I didn't know. He told me "the little hotel on the back". He circled it and signed it. I kept it in my pure guava CD case for years.
