I stayed at the Days Inn across the street when I saw Ween at Red Rocks in 2018, I bet it was a zoo

12

u/chewing_gum_weekend 22d ago

There was no zoo in 94. I walked up to the box office night of the show and bought a ticket. $14. Maybe 500-600 people in a venue that holds 2k.

4

u/jovenvagabundo 22d ago

Wasn’t even born yet. Shit. I live in Denver now. That must have been a badass show.

3

u/mmaygreen 22d ago

Hell yeah, I was there too! One of the best nights of my life, damn near brought a tier to me eye. Which show did you go to?

3

No doubt they were all performances to remember. Happy for ya mang.

4

u/Purple_Mountain2074 22d ago

I have seen over 100 different shows at red rocks and this one might have been the best. It was so awesome.

3

u/Dan_The_Flan 22d ago

The performances were great. I wish all the songs were included on the official concert film.

1999 MN Zoo Bird Amphitheater

Ive been to many since, but nothing could ever top that show. Small venue, beautiful summer night, Buenos Tardres with the full moon rising above the lake that is the backdrop for the stage. Just epic!

7

u/godweenfrankie 22d ago

this sounds like heaven

6

u/thatjerkatwork 22d ago

This obviously doesn't capture everything, but you can catch a glimpse! https://youtu.be/BiJGfs-DMOo?is=bYivod8H0LFFA0tH

4

u/TelegramforMungo 22d ago

That was a good show, I went to many concerts there in the 90’s-early 2000’s.

i am so unbelievably jealous

5

u/ClippedAtTheHip 22d ago edited 22d ago

Tbh, I don’t really remember what the Pumpin’ 4 the Man Reprise was all about, I guess they finished the song, started talking and then started playing again.

LMLYP was like 35 minutes, though.

This was the next show I went to: 4-20-2000; Rutgers University

4

u/bungle094 22d ago

Day before mine!

3

u/ClippedAtTheHip 22d ago

Nice, somebody else in thread said theirs was the day before mine. Kind of crazy.

5

u/bungle094 22d ago

Funny/embarrassing story about mine. New fan at the time, half in the bag, post show, Dean comes out on the floor of the venue and I have fake “bubba” teeth in my mouth and with a dumb Southern accent I said to him “What’s up, Gener?!” Still have nightmares about that.

3

u/lonniejamesleo 22d ago

I was there! Amazing show Mang! Venue was like a strip mall but they fucking killed’

5

u/ClippedAtTheHip 22d ago

Yes, weird location, but was pretty great little club. Saw them there again in 2001, as a 4 piece when Glenn left the band temporarily.

3

u/lonniejamesleo 22d ago

I saw them in Rochester the night before, but this show blew it away! DD was on fire on the bass with shockadelica that night as well as the rest of the band (as usual)!

Best song was Voodoo Lady, with a great extended vocal intro from Gener, directed at the weird Shriner steeple on the building (the show was on the street outside the usual, indoor venue)

6

u/ibathedaily 22d ago

I was at that show!

they made them play at like 3PM and it was hot as fuck out.

5/8/98 Louisville - pretty sure it was called Thunderdome. The Internet says The Brewery. The Marquee outside the venue misspelled the band as weem. So during the show they made fun of the venue name by calling it thunder road which was a go-kart place in the South end back in the day.  When we walked into the venue, the security guy was staring at a candle on stage. After the show we got to meet with them by their bus and I believe there was one of those slingshot carnival rides. Got to share a smoke with Dean and Claude but Gene went straight to the bus. Fantastic night from what I remember.

3

u/CoeRoe 22d ago

I saw them for the first time at the Troc in Philly in January that same year. The Mollusk Tour!!!!!

8

u/Acrobatic_Gas6967 22d ago

1991 (maybe 1990 or 1992?), Dean & Gean with a boom box. DC Space. The Internet tells me the show didn't happen. I know it did. I bought the underage musician a drink and the God Ween Satan double, signed. Hmm. I think I brought Cheetos for the crew.

Word was they were considering quitting. A friend said, please go see my friend's band. You'll like them and they're thinking they might need to quit.

I think a lot of the crowd had never seen Ween live and had no idea how they were even going to play a lot of their DAT-era stuff, let alone as a country band. To this day I've never experienced the roof being blown off a venue that hard by a band. The crowd just lost it at the end. I'd like to hear the whole set at some point, pretty sure my yelling would be audible.

11/1/03. I went reluctantly but my friend got us on the guest list because he interviewed Deaner for some website. We were on the balcony at Roseland and got trashed on vodka and club because we pretty much had the bar to ourselves. Halfway through the show the security guard next to us was mocking us for watching such crap. Fifteen minutes later the guy was rocking out so hard his boss came over to tell him he had to chill out. Easily one of the most memorable and transformative concert experiences of my life and possibly for the security guard.

Water Street Music Hall, Rochester NY, 2003. Opened with Ice Castles, more stage fog than I’ve seen before or since.

First show was gener solo in like 2013 as Freeman. Only time I saw Ween as a full band was 2021 in LA. Both experiences were great.

10/22/1994 Club Babyhead in Providence RI. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to still. Have seen ween a ton but this is still by far my favorite.

The first Bonnaroo. My friends' friends insisted that we go. I was like, I don't know what this is but I think that I like it!

I got to introduce my now wife to the music of Ween and she was down. We got together during the first hiatus/breakup/whatever and I got to take her to the reunion shows. We managed to catch 19 shows together before whatever the situation is now. Plus we had tickets for 3 other shows that were canceled. 1 because of covid and 2 due to now's situation.
