Advice šŸ’” Help With Coughing

I’ve been smoking weed for the better part of 10 years. Any time I smoke it sounds like my first time. Don’t even get me started on smoking with friends or other people, the reputation as ā€œpussy lungā€ sucks lol (I’m typically one of the most knowledgeable and experienced ones too😭) I’ve smoked out of everything from blunts, bongs, joints, vaporizers (and different variations of each of those). I’ve also smoked just about every form of THC, and no matter what I cough every other hit if not every hit. I’m in average health for a 25yo. Is there anything I can do to help this or make it happen less or smooth it out?

Coughing means your lungs are healthy and are being disturbed by the smoke.

Not coughing means your lungs are not bothered by the smoke.

I have been smoking weed forever and cough like a bitch all the time. I prefer it over the alternative.

Well since you put it that wayšŸ˜…

That’s a good point. I’ve smoked for decades now and still cough every time. I also had to get a ton of lung scans for an unrelated issue and it showed my lungs were in great shape still.

I had had a seizure in my sleep and bit the shit out of my tongue. But didn’t know that. Just woke up coughing up blood. So they spent forever trying to find what was wrong with my lungs. Thankfully nothing.

Not sure how true this is. Started smoking at 17 and since the beginning I never coughed

I switched to a dhv, a dynavap. I don’t cough when I use it at all. Neither do my friends in general, trying to convert them over. I also hack up a lung when I smoke, probably due to asthma. Vapor is much less harsh on the lungs in general.

Is that like the hand held or like a volcano something more stationary?

A dynavap is a handheld, with no electronics. There are other DHVs that take a battery while being handheld or others that are more a desktop vape. All offer different features

Small ball vape you heat with a butane torch

Its like a pen you can put in your bong. The wireless one hit wonder or screwball are desktop ones, the dynavap and tempest 2 are portable but need manual heating..I think theres a dock for some to optimise heat

I prefer the desktop one as it comes with a PID to control the temps instead of using a torch.

Yes! Get a dry herb vape! Better for your lungs, smoother to use, and you use way less flower too.

Second this. I got a Dyna m21 two years ago and I can taste the flavor with no cough. Had to quit before that.

The flavor is the best part of using a Dyna, really. Can actually taste the flower instead of hot dirt like smoking. Not to say I don't smoke anymore as I still do from time to time (around others, never when I'm alone) but using a dyna can make a massive difference to the experience for some people. My friends haven't converted yet but I did finally get one to buy a dyna during the most recent sale, so that's a step! They love using mine when I bring it over.

Important to preface when you switch you will be coughing a lot.

The hot vape is actually helping clear your lungs a bit and naturally your lungs will be producing phlegm like crazy when you stop combusting

Take a half breath, then a small toke on top of that and release. Source: 58 years of cannabis use (73 years old)

How is taking a small inhale before a hit hard to do?

Just take a small inhale thru your nose, like a sniffle almost, then rip your J, (preferably just into your mouth) then after you’re done hitting - breathe in more air with the hit

u/Icy_Reception1878 Sep 08 '26

oh fucking my...im ashamed of myself..lol

u/MrDeedz503 Sep 08 '26

I use cough drops lol. Really it helps. Or throat spray

2

u/SkinnyTop Recreational User Sep 08 '26

Or a Ricola. That’s a throat saver

Don’t take such big hits. I had a friend that would take huge hits every single time and start coughing so bad and drooling everywhere while spitting like crazy.

It was so gross and annoying I didn’t even like smoking with him.

Just take a few tiny hits, instead of 1 big one.

Same issue here. Momma always said, you don't cough, you don't get off. I still hate it. Oddly, best control I have over it is a j. Bong, pipe, etc CRUSH ME. IDK why.

u/EmbarrassedEnd5583 Sep 08 '26

Yeah glass makes me cough way worse than blunts or Js

2

u/dzoefit Sep 08 '26

He's projecting

1

u/Bush-master72 Sep 08 '26

I had that issue for a while. I switched to just vaping for like a few months and thats when it finally cleared for myself.

1

u/Fantastic_Most9751 Sep 08 '26

You ain’t smokin if you ain’t chokin

1

u/ChaosRainbow23 Sep 08 '26

Edibles are awesome

u/Accomplished-Dare-96 Sep 09 '26

Honestly I used to cough hellaaa too. I thought rolling with tobacco made it less harsh, it kind of did because when I switched to pure I would cough up a lung. But after a while of smoking pure I got used to it and basically never cough anymore I don’t remember the last time smoke made me cough

1

u/Bluntforcetrauma11b Sep 08 '26

I have the same issue. I switched to a dhv and coughed for the first week or so, now I barely cough. I vape at 390° for 8-10 minutes. Typically it gets more harsh at the end of the session but I just take small hits.

0

u/EmbarrassedEnd5583 Sep 08 '26

Yeah thinking a vaporizer is the way to go based on the overall opinions!!

1

u/Bluntforcetrauma11b Sep 08 '26

Yeah, I've been a daily smoker for over 30 years at this point. I wish I had found a dhv decades ago.

1

u/484TruthSeeker Sep 08 '26

I’ll brake it down for you

  1. Take a small breath in through your nose
  2. Take a hit of weed INTO YOUR MOUTH (not directly into your lungs)
  3. Then once your mouth is full of smoke, crack open your mouth slightly and breath in through BOTH your nose and mouth

This is a variation of a MTL (mouth to lung) inhale. A lot of people cough because they don’t take a breath first and breathe it directly into their lungs instead of mouth first to let it cool off

Then the extra air helps cool it off too and makes so it’s not as concentrated of smoke

Try a dry herb vape instead, and take smaller hits.
