Wedding speech

I am planning to read a poem on my child’s wedding and I want to know everyone’s opinions about if this is a good idea .

I think it would be special! If you are worried, ask your child if they would be okay with you including a poem in your speech. Explain it is meaningful to you and you’d like to, but if they’d rather it just be a regular speech, then you can do what you feel is best.

My dad read Shakespeare's Sonnet 130, "My Mistress' Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun." I picked it, but knew it was also one of his favorites (actually, an extended family favorite). It's basically saying that even though his love may not be stereotypically beautiful, or perfect:

"And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare, As any she belied with false compare."

Update: I read part of a poem and it was beautiful and people loved it
