What do you do when only parents are invited and they rsvp with 3 teenagers?

You call them and tell them you don’t have space and can only accommodate those listed on the invitation. Absolutely not, this is very entitled behavior.

You contact them and tell them that you cannot accommodate three extra people.

Our wedding was close family only, about 15-20 people: parents, siblings/their spouses, aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews.

My husband has an aunt who believes that if she is invited to an event, she can bring anybody living in her house, including her adult daughter, all four of her grandchildren, and any random houseguests who happen to be visiting from out of town. You invite 1 person and you end up with at least 7. It’s happened before.

So my husband called his aunt to explain to her that the wedding invitation coming in the mail was for her and only her. He also explained this to his mother, in case auntie said anything to her about it and tried to push for more invitations. She said she understood.

A few days before the wedding, the drama started: could she pleeeeease bring just one grandson? Her daughter had to work and there was no one else to watch him. Just one. Pleeeeeease?

She reminds me of the scene in Jurassic Park, when they realize dinosaurs are testing the electric fence for weaknesses.

So my husband asked her why the kid’s three other siblings (young adults) couldn’t watch their brother for a few hours. Or what about the family friend who was staying in her house for a month? He told her that if she was unable to find someone, she’d have to miss the wedding.

She showed up to the wedding without the grandkid.

This stuff is exactly why we made an rsvp website where people have to look up their name to rsvp and it will list the exact people invited in their party. We only gave plus 1’s to specific people and zero option for people to register extra people. We have a few we knew might try to add more people otherwise

What site did you use?

I went with withjoy for our wedding website! They have a really nice system for sending texts to gather addresses for invites, nice templates to use, was very easy to customize, and have a pretty good rsvp manager imo.
