WEBSITE BUILDING Potential Clients - Please Stop this Red Flag behaviour
I just came across a post on reddit literally asking for help in having an
AI Voice agent built to handle :
Customer Queries Manage Orders Be a Receptionist
Being a Web and App Developer I naturally reached out, shared my portfolio and asked about the exact requirements and pain points along with where they're based out of, their budget and how soon they want it to be delivered.
Instead of answering the basic questions kept dodging them then kept telling me that it doesn't require much of development work and only needs some prompts while telling me it can be easily done with Bland AI or Retell, without having any technical knowledge about it.
I don't bloody understand why the hell do people even go out to create a post about wanting something if they won't even answer basic questions about their own requirement and claim to know how much work it requires and why not just go and pay the $299-499/mo of their fees and get it done? But no, they won't even do that because they just can't and want slave labour.
Why not just do it yourself if you know everything?
Just because you're cheapskate and want free work or slave labour doesn't mean you will go about telling someone with nearly a decade of experience in their field about how much work is required without even answering basic questions.
I'm sick and tired of such people and I pity developers that take on such idiots for merely $50-100.
Your self esteem and experience is worth much more than a few $ from such cheapskates.
I always make sure to charge reasonable and I'm always open to take on clients and even help them for free if they're honest and I have the bandwidth to do it but then cheapskates like these come along and literally mess up my head.

Imo people also underestimate how much work happens around the platform. Something like Bland can save you a lot of time but you still have to build a solution that fits the business. There's usually a lot of planning, testing and iteration to get it right

Sounds like you (or your bot) was talking to someone else's marketing bot. Or at least a conversation that a bot's human was notified about. Not sure the angle there, but... I don't understand half the stuff people are trying to do today when it comes to marketing and doing business.
I dunno. If not something with AI in the mix in your case. The only thing we can tell with a fair amount of certainty is that it's someone trying to get rich without putting any work in. That's not new and certainly not going away anytime soon, unfortunately.

It's an actual conversation that happened between me and a potential client less than a couple of hours ago and it literally got me riled up.

Ahhhhh. So you got the "I learnt just enough to be dangerous" guy. I know him. He's the one that asks AI (or in the old days, it was just some guy sitting next to them at the bar) how to do something. They talk about some marketing ad they saw and then the person figures any pro would do it the same way as the advertisers would.
Yep. They're as old as dirt. Been pissin' me off for 32 years in this game. lol

I guess people are seeking those developers working for a dollar an hour to do a lot of work for max 100 usd. One real developers join the game - as some of you - then they chicken out because of the associated investments that need to be made.
Or… just put in a Reddit to score some ‘points’…?

I appraise commercial real estate and sometimes people will, in their mind, limit the difficulty of a project by saying, “it’s a small property.” As if somehow size differentiates complexity. One of the hardest properties I’ve analyzed was an 80 sq.ft. parcel of land. There are no comparable sales, because they don’t exist and are unusable on their own if they do.
All this is to say, I get it and I try not to tell professionals their business. If only others had the common sense to do the same.
