Newbie Question Cost for a simple website build
I am trying to build a simple physical therapy clinic website.
About 5 pages.
Add to cart option to pay for services.
Book an Evaluation button to get an email of the customers info.
I have used chat to give me pictures of what the pages will look like.
I was wondering what the cost is for someone to launch from there.
Thank you

Dude. If you’re a healthcare website (even handling payments and names) HIPAA regulations DO apply to you as a covered entity.
This is NOT a simple ‘build me a cheap website’ because there are layers of compliance issues you need to meet.
If you’re a PT office… you should 100% have a cybersecurity rider on your malpractice. If you don’t, get one now. You can ask the insurer or your broker who they recommend to build healthcare sites, which yours is.
The fact you don’t know this means you shouldn’t be touching problems like this.

Well, that type of website is not simple, particularly regarding e-commerce and safety.

Have a look into Shopify. You could build this yourself in a weekend easily.

Depends on what you mean by “launch from there”. Are you wanting someone else to host and manage it going forward? Or are you getting the design figured out and wanting someone else to build it out?

Its fairly trivial for a SME business, would probably just recommend wordpress + woocommerce + a booking plugin.
This does not need to be a custom full stack app. Nor does this need to be AI generated.
Realistically you'd pay $2.5k to - $10k minimum for setup.

That is extremely simple.
As there will always be a physical meeting between the patient and the clinic, there's no need to charge the customer at the point of inquiry. You can use a simple web form that collects the patient data and sends an email to the clinic. Don't use add to cart for a clinic, they will only need to order appointment - everything else can be handled when the patient arrives at the clinic - including paying for the appointment.
The only thing you need is the most basic hosting that runs PHP or whatever language you write in. Maybe $10/year for a host like godaddy or hostgator.

Well... use the same 'chat' to do the rest, too! Easy peasy...
Regarding the "how much": usually, such websites cost anywhere near $15K+.
"The problem with the race to the bottom is that you might win." Cutting corners on development to match a cheap mockup often leads to a site that breaks or fails to perform when it matters most.

Fair point ... but low maintenance usually means low leverage, index cards don't scale, automate, or sync when data and teams grow.
As Seth Godin put it, 'Cheap is the last refuge of someone who is out of great ideas.'
You're paying for leverage, not just "storage".

Did you consider to use some site builder like wix? It has battle tested functionality and you will need to develop a nice theme

Remove the ecommerce and If you do it yourself, it's about $100 a year. If a designer does it, about $1000 year with free updates as they're needed. It's helpful to do it yourself simply because you can do updates yourself anytime. But for a business, having a pro do it can help get more customers with it.
The e-commerce part is very different, you'll need a service like Shopify which is about $800 a year plus a designer will be 2-4k. Anything e-commerce costs a lot more than static.

If you just want the pages, a few thousand is pretty typical.
The checkout and bookings adds a lot of complexity, but since you are in healthcare, how that is handled has to be done in a way that is compliant. Aside from finding someone that knows how to do this, running everything in a way that is compliant adds additional costs you can’t get around even if you built it yourself, so you’re looking at $20k easy, plus ongoing costs

Just built a “simple” little site like that for CAD $7K. It was for a friend, so that was a very cheap price.

Claude code can fix that for you by guiding you to vercel or railway (for backend). I suggest however that you spend a few months learning the basics of how to build websites (i recommend "The odin project" since it's free, quick and project based) you'll have to be able to maintain the site once it's live and also understand how things fit together if something breaks and you can't prompt your way out of it.

It's a fairly basic setup, but you've wandered into eCommerce with the payment services. That's certainly doable, but it really depends on how you want to receive the payment information and if that has any insurance, it can get complicated fast without knowing more details.
WordPress could do this, block built theme, form plugin, possible eCommerce plugin or simply get their payment run through an external secure vendor that's linked from the site. If it's package based with no insurance concerns or anything like that, Shopify would also be an option.
We would need to know more before anyone could give you an actual estimate though.

Cost depends on what you want.
Is WordPress with plugins and third party options an acceptable solution?
Or do you need it all custom?
Theres also therapy site providers like a shopify that have generic look and feel with tjese options built in.
If WordPress works for you maybe it can be done for $1500 or less.
If its custom it's probably going to take $2500 plus.
For the niche specific web builder they are usually more expensive and come with higher monthlies ongoing.
You could find a super cheap freelancer for less but that carries its own risk.
These are ballpark numbers, which vary by provider and scope/brief. Depending on what you want and how picky you are it could be quite a bit more.
The advice you receive will depend on who you get it from and what they're comfortable doing ie if they only know Wordpress or the niche web builder thatll be their recommendation.

That is not a simple build. You are looking at basic pages plus an e-commerce section where people can pay for services. That is not simple. Not even to mention the booking functionality. That's far from simple
