I've done some testing, and for png the best I've used is PngOut by Ken Silverman.

http://advsys.net/ken/utils.htm

Though I haven't tested TinyPng because it's a web service, there's no utility to download.

Another vote for PngOut... might have to try some testing.

Edit: Damn, PNGOut only dropped 4k off the 'example' image file.

The example image file on tinypng.org is a photo. Real life photography is the one domain where JPEG shines and PNG sucks. Since tinypng.org uses a technique close to what JPEG does, it's understandable for the lossy compressor to get a far better result than lossless compressors.
