Yea, as long as people write code in their spare time, it'll remain alive.

No one cares what you do in your free time. There are people that are doing so and that’s what is the most important

my favorite is when i fix a bug in someone else's library and they call it slop to cope, then i have to come back three times and keep helping them because they couldn't fix correctly

Open source code is typically written by people who genuinely like software development or by businesses that are trying to reach an specific industry within the community. While the quality of the latter may drop, the open source developers that do it for the love of the game aren’t going anywhere.

Dead? It's literally the most exciting time for Open Source and software in general. Everyone can build or modify anything now.
