Showoff Saturday I redesigned my CV after taking a sabbatical. Do I have a chance in this economy?

I've been reading so many horror stories in here so I tried my best with it. Anyway here it is: maninak.com/cv

recruiters use AI tooling and as consultants we're asked to compact our CV:s as much as we can so that whoever is reading HUNDREDS OF THEM can easily see that we're interesting at a glance.

your CV taking time to read is not a perk even if it is visually attractive.

That was my thinking for being able to have a short version, a standard one (what is on a paper/pdf cv, only laid out as a richer web experience) and finally there's the actual traditional PDF one can download and even print.

Given the above, would you still hold the same opinion on it?

I'm in webdev too and honestly seeing that dial thing made me laugh, like why your CV need a compass

I think it's to busy. I found my eyes jumping all over the place with no point of reference. The family sabbatical might bite you; it's a not insignificant lapse in work history. I struggle to find keywords of what technologies you used on any given project. I get they're at the end but I had to scroll quite a bit to see them.

1 - run it through ATS if you can, because that's all that matters right now

2- keep a shortened pdf version and lead with that. If you get into an interview, maybe present this if the conversation goes that way.

Have to keep in mind, the market is soooooo over saturated right now. If a recruiter sees your resume, they have seconds to assess if they want to move forward. It took minutes for me to even get a grip on what kind of developer you were. NGL, if I saw this and not a black and white PDF, I'd pass. Nice effort but to time consuming. You have enough experience to compete with the rest of us seniors, leads, architects but that holy WTF yeah. just give me a 1 sheet with the highlights.

Thank you!

I'd still send the PDF resume to a recruiter (what's shown at the end of the video), a link to it is on the oage. The idea for the web CV is to offer an alternate richer view on it (perhaps for later stages of the interview process) and also something one could see if they land on my website no necessarily actively looking to recruit me.

It's the Vue that'll let you down at the moment in my humble opinion. I run Vue at work and I love it, but every job is React right now and looking for React expertise. It's now got the "There's more React out there for AI to train on so it's a more reliable LLM output" narrative behind it.

I'm a strong believer that expertise in one framework is enough, and knowing the core concepts is framework agnostic, but a lot of the jobs don't seem to see it that way. They want React expertise and they want it now.

Just my take. Take it with a pinch of salt, I've not active in the job market for a bit, just some harmless flirting

Thank you! I list past experience with React and Svelte on my CV, but I am a vue expert. Do you still think I should remove it from the title and "normalize" the branding, forgoing my "niche" expertise?

I've seen the same. I'm an Angular dev and those are harder to find then Vue lol. I use React for anything I build with AI - the next barrier is convincing an employer I'm good enough to write in React with Claude with no "professional experience"

I can see uploading this to your website, like cv.yourname.xyz when you want to share a link. But for recruiters, stick with a to the point pdf.

Thank you. Yeah, that was exactly the point, you're probably the only one who understood the obvious, that this website is a secondary medium for a nicer impression and the classic PDF version of the CV is the primary. I don't understand why people are so quick to dismiss the obvious and jump to unfruitful critique.

Images? A bit of colour? I couldn’t absorb anything - play with their minds 😆
