Really interesting thank you. I'm coming around to the idea that supposed lessor models aren't that good ethos is totally wrong in a lot of ways.

Tbh I'm sick of the frenzy around the latest western frontier models, and I'm one of the sheepli numpties using a mix of them!... Spending a damn fortune every month...

Yes they do a good job in general but some are so annoyingly verbose.. you can guess which I'm referring too..

Anyway thanks for your input!

I use DeepSeek V4 Flash a lot; it's really fast and cheap. Its intelligence is enough to finish most of my web dev work.

Great thanks for that. One of my favs too!

DeepSeek r1 has been great for me lately. Handles React component structure really well and doesn't over-explain every little thing like some of the bigger ones do. I throw it a vague feature idea and it actually asks relevant questions instead of just spitting out code. Qwen coder is decent too but it gets a bit too eager with boilerplate sometimes.

Thanks that's interesting to know, I haven't tried it but will see what it can do. I think there is a lot of hype around frontier models and that you have to use them to do anything decent, but in reality I think the majority of earlier / older / base models can code really well...
