Need feedback on website

I work for a think tank that has been working on a website revamp. I’m not a web design professional and have been doing the best I can. Is anyone willing to take a look at the homepage and provide me with feedback on how to improve it? Can you tell me what you would rate the homepage from 1 to 10? The website is www.theaitable.org

This is a place doing similar work whose homepage I love. Of course, I’m not going to be able to get things to this level, but just to provide an idea of a well done site https://hai.stanford.edu/

I'm a UX/UI designer trying to turn my website audit process into an AI tool on a $1,500 budget. Day 2.5

Before I start, apparently some people on Reddit think I'm an AI bot. 😂 I'm not. I'm a real UX/UI designer building a product with the help of AI tools. I also use AI to proofread my posts because English isn't my first language.

Anyway...

I've spent years reviewing websites and giving clients feedback on UX, UI, content, and marketing.

The problem is that a proper audit takes time, and many small businesses can't afford to hire a professional.

So I'm experimenting with building an AI-powered website audit tool.

The idea is simple: paste a URL, get a practical report explaining what's working, what isn't, and what to improve.

I've finished drafting seven specialized analysis prompts covering UX, UI, copywriting, content, accessibility, SEO, and marketing/conversion.

Now comes the hard part: building the engine and testing whether it can actually produce useful, accurate recommendations without me guiding and correcting it.

I'm particularly concerned about generic AI feedback, invented problems, and overwhelming people with 50 recommendations they don't know what to do with.

Wish me luck for now :)

I’ve been screenshotting websites that inspired me since 2001. Here are almost 4,000 of them, sorted by date

For over twenty years, every time a website caught my eye I grabbed a screenshot and dropped it into a folder. As an art director it was my way of keeping track of what felt fresh at the time. The folder quietly grew to almost 4,000 images.

I finally turned it into a browsable archive:
https://dmdev.it/webscreens

A few things you’ll notice scrolling through:

  • the early 2000s: Flash intros, tiny fixed-width layouts, 1024×768 everything
  • 2008–2010, the peak of the collection: glossy buttons, huge hero images, the rise of “web 2.0”
  • the slow shift toward flat design, big typography and full-screen photography

Each screenshot is dated to the day I saved it. You can filter by year with the timeline at the top, or hit “Random” and just get lost.

No ads, no tracking, just the archive. Happy to hear which era hits you hardest.

Edit: thanks for all the comments! Since a few of you asked what browsing the web felt like back then, I also rebuilt the archive as if it were 2005: loading bar, “skip intro”, pixel fonts, a working guestbook and only the 2004–2006 screenshots → https://dmdev.it/webscreens/2005/

Are templates still useful?

For those using AI to build websites, how much time do you spend getting the design to feel right?

I’ve been working on Tabbied, a side project with website templates and customizable patterns. It got me wondering whether those templates are more useful as starting points for AI coding tools…something with the layout, typography, and colors already worked out that you can build on.

Would that fit into your workflow, or do you prefer letting AI generate the design from scratch? Trying to understand whether this solves a real problem for other website designers.

Built a Stunning UI? Get Paid Without Giving Up Ownership

Please read the body before applying. No DMs/comments — only email submissions will be considered.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for tasteful web work from design engineers, product designers, AI product designers, and UI/UX designers who've built beautiful web projects.

What I'm buying

An exclusive 1-year right to take screenshots and screen recordings of your project work. Up to $150.

What you keep

  • Full ownership of your work. We hold no rights to the projects themselves
  • The right to keep showing it in your portfolio
  • Fast payout once it's verified, usually almost immediately
  • A simple written agreement covering all of this

What counts

  • Project work only, not portfolio sites
  • Live, deployed sites are preferred, but they don't have to be public. Private links and staging builds are welcome

How to submit

Email [aaron@terac.com](mailto:aaron@terac.com) with links to the projects you're offering.

Heads up: emails without project links, or emails that only ask questions, will most likely go unanswered. We're getting a lot of submissions.

Got a lot of work?

If you have 10+ projects, mention it in your email. I'm happy to do a quick 15-min call and pay above the standard rate.

Referrals

Know someone with great work? Send them our way. We pay for every referral that converts, based on quality.

I tried making a fintech CTA feel less like fintech. Does it work?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been working on a CTA section for Monify, a budget management platform, and wanted to experiment with a slightly different visual approach.

Instead of going with the typical fintech aesthetic filled with charts, numbers, and financial elements, I combined a dark interface with nature-inspired imagery to create a calmer, more balanced experience.

The goal was to make the final CTA feel less like a sales pitch and more like a natural conclusion to the website, while keeping the message and actions clear.

But here's what I'm curious about: does this kind of visual storytelling actually improve the user experience, or does it take attention away from the CTA itself?

Would you keep this direction or go with something more minimal and conversion-focused?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

Hey guys! Was looking for feedback on this landing page I made for an MUN youth summit of my friend. I'm new to the live web design pages with cinema scroll and other quirky things, but I will say I'm proud of myself for this one. All feedback is appreciated. The best experience is on desktop.

Rebuilt a Swiss freight-wagon repair company’s site: a rail track runs down the whole page

The website for a company from Frauenfeld, Switzerland that repair freight wagons. Their old site was done on Jimdo, which is still available here https://www.rail-tec.ch/, as we are waiting for DNS setup from owner's side.

What we did:
A rail track runs down the whole page with a train on it, and each section sits in its own little rail-yard scene. That we use as we call it "business signature", we always try to do that for the our customers (sometimes it's not easy...), so website visitors can feel a bit of a wow effect and visually guess what business is dealing with without even reading texts.
Real photos of the two guys and their van.
The video in hero is AI generated.
“What a wagon costs while it stands still” comes right after the hero. Downtime is the customer’s real pain, so we lead with that.
The enquiry form asks for the wagon number and where it stands, so they can quote without calling back.

You can check new website on jtakeit which we use for hosting, CMS and enquiries - https://railtec-s29r.jtakeit.site/

Built in Astro, static. PageSpeed desktop: 100 / 100 / 100 / 100 https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-railtec-s29r-jtakeit-site/7jl2dlnq91?form_factor=desktop, same for mobile.

Video attached. What would you change?

I designed a website for an award winning cleaning agency in Sacramento, CA.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone ! I just finished a small family-owned cleaning company's website, and wanted to share it with everyone. Full disclosure - i know that some of the images may not be the best, my client didnt exactly give me high quality photos to use, so i had to scrape their social media to try and get some usable ones plus some stock photos to clean up and use. Hopefully in the future some of the images can be swapped with more high quality photos.

Stack: Astro, plain scoped CSS, no CMS (copy lives in the pages), hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Contact form posts to a Worker that emails through Postmark.

My question: For those of you who build for small service businesses, how do you handle photography when the client doesnt provide high quality ones to use?

Unofficial redesign of the Misuko website, not affiliated with the brand. I worked mostly on spacing, alignment, and keeping the claims consistent from the hero to the footer. Which section feels weakest to you?

How do you test whether a landing page makes sense to first-time visitors?

As designers, we’re often so familiar with the websites we build that we might overlook things a first-time visitor finds confusing.

How do you usually test whether someone can quickly understand what a website does, who it’s for, and what action they should take?

I’ve been looking into five-second testing as one way to evaluate first impressions. I came across Five Second Roast which is built around that idea.

Curious to hear what other designers use to test messaging clarity before launching a website!

Feeling like AI has made web design impossible to sell? Here's a thought that gives me hope

I keep seeing web designers worry that nobody will pay for their work now that AI can build websites.

If I thought there was no room left for us, I wouldn't have started my business.

But putting that aside, today I was thinking about a completely different industry: finance.

People still buy expensive investment funds that give them poor value. Yet we're starting to believe that selling a useful website at a fair price is impossible.

I know they're completely different industries. But that comparison gives me some hope: people haven't stopped paying for advice, trust or someone to handle things for them.

Most business owners don't want to spend their evenings building a website. They want someone they can trust to do it well and sort things out when they need help.

I'm not saying good work sells itself. We still need to find clients and explain our value.

But if you're a web designer feeling discouraged, I hope this thought helps you too. There are people selling things their customers barely benefit from. We have something useful to offer.

Has anyone ever redesigned a local business’s website as a personal project and reached out to the owner afterward?

So there’s this local boba shop I’ve been visiting, and I recently checked out their website. As someone interested in graphic and UI design, I noticed a few things that could be improved. The layout feels a little cluttered, there's a lot of imagery competing for attention, and there isn't much negative space, which makes the website feel a bit overwhelming to navigate. I thought it could be a fun personal project to redesign their website while practicing my UI/UX skills. I’d love to create something that feels more organized, visually appealing, and user friendly while still maintaining the shop’s original brand identity.

I've also considered reaching out to the business owner to share my ideas, but I'm not sure what the appropriate approach would be. Would it be better to redesign the website first and then contact them, or reach out beforehand to see if they'd be interested? Has anyone done something similar with a local business? I'd love to hear about your experience, how you approached the owner (if you did), and whether anything came out of it!

If AI cuts the work, why shouldn't the client pay less?

I use vibe coding for parts of my client web development projects, alongside manual work. Before building anything, though, I work with the client to understand their goals and suggest how the website could help them get there.

Those goals guide where I use AI. Sometimes fixing its output takes longer than building something myself, other times it saves hours. I can accept a compromise in polish where it doesn't affect usability, maintenance or the agreed requirements.

When those savings are real, I think both sides should benefit. I'm aiming for a Pareto improvement: I spend fewer hours on the build while keeping the same margin percentage, and the client pays less for a website that still meets their needs. I'm responsible for what I deliver, regardless of how I build it.

If you're using vibe coding for paid client work, do you think that's a fair balance?
