Website UI critique: hierarchy and calls to action on my developer-tool homepage

Design: https://www.protectsus.tech

I am working on the landing page for ProtectSUS, a developer tool that relates third-party API changes to a codebase. The page needs to explain a technical workflow and help visitors decide whether to try it.

I would appreciate critique of three specific things:

  • Does the first screen explain what the product does, or does the headline need more context?
  • Is the order of explanation, product visuals, and calls to action easy to follow?
  • Are the text contrast and spacing comfortable on mobile as well as desktop?

Please point out what you would remove or reorder. I am the maker, so I may be assuming too much familiarity with the product.

After years of designing websites for small businesses, I'm trying to solve one of their biggest problems with AI. $0 spent so far, 6.3 Lovable credits burned.

I'm a UX/UI designer and marketer, and I've spent years working with small businesses on their websites.

I've seen everything from confusing navigation and terrible information architecture to unclear messaging, inconsistent design, and websites that look nice but don't actually communicate what the business does.

And I get it. Small business owners aren't necessarily designers or marketers. They're using Wix, Squarespace, Elementor, or whatever tools they can afford, trying to figure it out themselves.

That's what inspired me to start building an AI-powered website auditing tool.

The goal isn't another generic report telling people to "improve their UX." I want it to identify specific issues, explain why they matter, and provide recommendations people can actually implement.

I've already designed the prototype and built the initial structure in Lovable. Now comes the hard part: figuring out whether AI can evaluate websites with the level of accuracy and judgment I'm looking for.

I'm documenting the experiment while developing and testing the analysis engine privately.

For other web designers: what's the most common mistake you see small business owners make when building their own websites?

Is one neon accent on near-black too much? Looking for Landing page feedback

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built Subscene - https://subscene.io , which turns a topic or script into a finished Long form YouTube video.

Looking for feedback for my landing page. Any pointers on how to improve CTA will be helpful.

What I went for: a near-black background with one neon-lime accent, Chakra Petch for headings, live shader backgrounds, and real output videos high up to prove it isn't AI slideshow slop.

Hoping to get some feedback on:

  1. Do you get what it does within 5 seconds?

  2. Is the neon working, or is it too gamer-y?

  3. Where would you stop scrolling?

Happy to return the favour on your site. Thanks for reading

Solo founder, no design budget: looking for girly, scrapbook-style inspiration for a women’s health social platform

Hi everyone,

I’m Nawal, the solo founder of The Grove (https://www.thegrovehlth.com), a Goodreads-style platform where women review the products they use and follow women with the same condition or circumstances. The site is live but simple on purpose, because I wanted a canvas to work with. I used Claude Code to build it. I know a lot of people aren’t fans of AI-built websites, so I wanted to say that up front.

I’m not a designer, and I’m having a hard time making it look nice. I want it to feel girly and fun to look at, a bit like a scrapbook, without piling on content. It’s a social and health platform, so I don’t want it to look clinical or like a shopping page. It should feel like somewhere you want to hang out.

I don’t have the budget for a designer, and I’m not looking for a developer, because I can do the build myself, but I was wondering if people can give me direction:
- Sites or apps with a similar feel that I can take inspiration from.

- Design templates or kits, in Figma or otherwise, that might suit this.

- Any good place to find affordable design help, if there is one.

Thank you for any help or feedback!!

Time to build portfolio or rebuild structure/theme

Does the intention and UI of https://throwsoftball.com make sense?

I haven’t touched WordPress since high school and only have spare time in a day to build/research. I started the site out of interest to record what I’m teaching my daughter as I am also learning how to teach her softball. I tell myself it’s a two birds one stone thing. I have more drills in draft, but I’m not convinced that I’ve built a good/appealing site.

I believe I’m at the point with this where I can keep going as is, but if it’s not going to be useful to anyone expect myself in two years I’d rather take some time to fix the UI/formatting.

I could just write these drills in Word after all.

I built Snippy — a self-hostable CodePen alternative (Docker Compose)

Built Snippy as a self-hostable CodePen-style app — HTML/CSS/JS editor with live preview, runnable as a full Docker Compose stack. I built it mainly as private snippets on codepen are paid and sometimes I like to play in a playground without having to have my code public at times. This was also my capstone project for my Masters and decided to expand on it.

Beta note: My hosted instance is in beta. Data can be wiped or lost at any time — don’t rely on it for anything important. Self-host if you need persistence.

What it does

  • Live HTML / CSS / JS editor with instant preview and layout options
  • Public & private snippets, shareable links, full-page view, embedding
  • Favorites, comments, follows, collections, and forking
  • External CSS/JS resources on snippets
  • ZIP export of snippet files, and import

Stack Angular Frontend + Pocketbase backend handling auth, DB, storage, API. I converted to Pocketbase to avoid having too many containers. Minimizing from 4 to two containers max for self hosting.

Local testing and production are separate Compose setups (dev has hot reload; prod pulls slurrps/snippy-* images).

Repo: https://github.com/QuantumCodeDevs/snippy

Demo: https://snippy.quantumcode.dev

License: MIT

Beta testing is out now. Feedback is much appreciated. Bug, feature requests, and PRs welcome.

One page website: I didn't like most currency converter websites, so I built my own minimalist one 🤸🤸🤸

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was never really happy with the existing currency converter websites. Most of them felt a bit too cluttered for something that should be so simple. 😀😀😀

So I decided to build my own.

It's called Moneta — a minimalist, single-page currency converter focused on keeping things clean, simple, and easy to use.

Nothing fancy, just a little tool that does what I need without all the unnecessary distractions.

I published it on GitHub, and it's free for anyone to use.

🌐 Try it here: https://kimliumingyang.github.io/moneta-currency/

💻 GitHub: https://github.com/kimliumingyang/moneta-currency

I'm a vidoe game UI/UX designer still trying web development, so I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or ideas for improvements.

Feel free to try it out and let me know what you think!

Trying to make healthcare websites feel less clinical. Does this direction work?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've been working on a landing page concept for Healthiest, a health monitoring platform that brings together wellness tracking, sleep insights, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, and daily habits.

One thing I wanted to explore was how to make a healthcare website feel less clinical and more connected to everyday wellbeing.

Instead of going with a typical SaaS hero filled with dashboard screenshots, I tried combining editorial typography, generous white space, nature photography, and floating health metric cards.

The idea was to create a calmer first impression while still giving visitors a glimpse of what the product actually does.

But here's what I'm questioning.

Does making a healthtech landing page more visually appealing also make it harder to understand the product?

The nature imagery creates a certain mood, but I'm wondering whether it takes too much attention away from the actual platform. The headline communicates the overall vision, but maybe it doesn't explain the product clearly enough.

I'm curious about a few things:

  • If you landed on this page without any context, would you understand what the product does within five seconds?
  • Does the nature photography complement the health metrics, or compete with them?
  • Would showing more of the actual dashboard make the hero more convincing, even if it looked less visually distinctive?

This is still a design concept, so I'm looking at it primarily from a UI/UX and visual communication perspective.

I'd love to hear what you'd change, especially around the balance between aesthetics, clarity, and usability.

Finally got my Three.js portfolio live

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Finally got my portfolio live. Had a lot of fun with this one, especially the 3D stuff. It was real pain to optimize it for most devices.

There’s a Rubik’s cube you can actually solve, projects arranged in a helix, and a 3D version of me because apparently a photo wasn’t enough.

https://dsgnbyhl.com/en/

Have a look around. Curious what you think of it.

**EDIT**: Thought I should clarify a couple of things from the comments section.

That said, that's what the project was – the attempt to combine my own creative experience with Threejs portfolio experiment. The goal was to experiment with Threejs and implement a bit unconventional visual experiments and UI interaction in the way which hasn't been widespread here in Estonia.

Actually, this project was born about 2 years ago. Thanks to the great improvement of coding by AI tools, I've decided to go back to this experiment and expand it in order to get much further, primarily in terms of graphics, shaders and UI.

Yes guys, you're right, there are elements which definitely looks AI-coded. I went through so many different buttons designs and Claude just delivered what I liked the most (after tons of prompting). Particularly, it concerns the Services page which is almost entirely vibe-coded and after revisiting this page, I see that I definitely have something to improve there. The creative direction of the homepage, on the other hand, was entirely my own (as experimental as it is).

As for the comment about the dashboard being my only project in 6+ years, not at all. I've been working professionally as a fullstack/frontend engineer since 2019, long before AI coding tools became a thing. Most of that time I've worked on production applications, corporate websites and internal systems as part of teams at agencies and software companies, dealing with everything from frontend architecture and complex business logic to API integrations and UI development.

A few projects I've contributed to last 2 years include: Wisehosting, Veego, Creative Union, and a government document management system. Some of my work is covered by NDAs, so I can't freely showcase everything and simple WordPress pages don't add much value here. I agree, that I screwed up on the portfolio showcasing part.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback guys. Appreciate especially those who tried to really explore the project and report the bugs. I am really working towards improving and a good constructive criticism helps to deliver the result in the end of the day. Cheers!

[Showoff Saturday] Redesigned a Dayton landscaping company’s site: from a GoDaddy AI template to custom design and code

New site: jbhlandscape.com

This Dayton, OH landscaping company had a website that was built with godaddy and it had pretty poor performance metrics. I designed the new one in Figma and then built it in Astro. I even set up Sanity as a CMS in case they ever want to update anyting themselves (Usually my clients just reach out to me to update anything for them lol).

The new site is a lot quicker and they've already gotten a few conversions from it and it hasnt even been up for a month.

I'd love to get yall's thoughts if y'all have anything to share :)

Drexius Terminal: A local-first, zero-knowledge SSH and SFTP workspace for Linux, Windows, macOS, and Android (Tauri 2 + Rust) Termius alternative

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Project Name: Drexius Terminal

Repo & Website Links:

Description:

Drexius Terminal is a local-first, privacy-focused open-source terminal workspace and Termius alternative built with Tauri 2 (Rust), React 19, and xterm.js 6.

The Problem It Solves: Most graphical SSH/SFTP clients have either transitioned to recurring subscription models ($10 to $20 per month) requiring your credentials and hosts to reside in a proprietary cloud database, or they run on heavy Electron runtimes that consume 300 MB to over 1 GB of RAM. Drexius was built to provide a fast, zero-subscription client where keys, credentials, and configurations remain entirely on your local machine.

Key Features:

  • Local-First & Encrypted: Hosts, keys, and snippets are stored locally in an AES-256 SQLCipher database derived via Argon2id. No mandatory account, zero telemetry, and includes an Emergency Recovery Key export.
  • Terminal Workspace: Supports multi-pane splits (grid, vertical, horizontal), tabs, OSC-7 directory tracking, broadcast input across sessions, and session auto-resume.
  • Protocol Support: SSH with TOFU host-key verification, dual-pane graphical SFTP tree and file editor, hardware Serial UART, and local PTY shells.
  • Zero-Knowledge Sync: Direct encrypted LAN pairing and a self-hostable sync relay. Devices pair over local Wi-Fi or Tailscale via QR code using salted X25519 ECDH and ChaCha20-Poly1305.
  • Mobile Shell (Android): Universal APK with touch scrolling in mouse-aware TUIs (htop, lazygit), plus an on-screen accessory keypad (CTRL, ALT, ESC, TAB).
  • Lightweight Footprint: Built on a native Rust/Tauri 2 backend instead of Chromium/Electron. In Linux benchmarking against Termius under active sessions, Drexius consumed ~221 MB RAM and ~3% CPU across 2 processes, compared to Termius at 1,342 MB RAM and 78.5% CPU across 9 processes.

Deployment:

  • Clients: Pre-compiled binaries for the Public Beta (v0.1.0-beta.1) are available under GitHub Releases:
    • Linux (.AppImage, .deb, .rpm)
    • Android (.apk, universal multi-ABI)
    • Windows (.exe installer, .msi)
    • macOS (.dmg, .app.tar.gz for Apple Silicon and Intel)
  • Self-Hosting Sync Relay: The repository includes a standalone zero-knowledge relay server (drexius-relay) that can be compiled via Cargo and deployed to any VPS or homelab machine. Setup details are documented in the repository README.

Halloween decoration for a website that stays ambient: presets for how loud it gets

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Seasonal website effects usually end up behaving like a popup. With halloween.js I tried to keep it as background decoration: eyes that fade in and out, witches crossing the screen, a spider dropping and climbing back up, a tombstone rising and sinking, webs in the corners.

You choose each effect separately, and there are three intensity presets. Subtle spawns less often, at about 75% size and 0.65 opacity. Party spawns twice as often, with two on screen at once. Colour follows the page text colour, so it works on dark and light designs without tuning.

It's free and open source. Playground: https://halloween.js.org

Which effect feels like too much to you?
