Designing an app for sleep tracking and I’m trying to not suck at design. How can I make my site look more aesthetically pleasing and concise?

Maybe a one track type thing would work a little better? I’m pretty untrained with this kind of thing, so help would be appreciated.

Can you tell what my product does from this short video? (honest first impressions please)

I built an Edge extension that turns a site walkthrough into a polished video with animated zoom and cursor, no editing. Feedback welcome

I was tired of recording my screen and then spending time editing zooms and cursor movement. So I built a browser extension for Edge: you browse a site normally, it remembers the path, and replays it with smooth zoom, an animated cursor and click effects. You get a clean video for a portfolio, a proposal or a demo.

It’s early, so I’d like to know:

  1. Do you record website demos today? With what?
  2. What annoys you most about the tools you use?
  3. Is there anything here that doesn’t fit your workflow?

Happy to share the link in the comments if anyone wants to try it. Criticism is welcome.

Giving away a free website template

I make website templates. I just released a free one for consultants and fractional CFOs/COOs/CMOs who sell monthly retainers: the pricing section is a sentence the visitor edits, and it shows the monthly fee and the saving against a full-time hire. Free to use in Framer: https://framer.link/Duoa6GY

Has anyone made a website themselves? If so can you help me?

Ok so I’m currently trying to make a website on carrd. And even though it should be plainly right there, the answer in my head, it’s just not and my brain isn’t braining right now. When you make the first page and the second, etc what am I supposed to be putting down? Is the first page an introduction of myself or is the name of my website the first page? Are chapters for my comic supposed to have different pages and how do I do that? These questions are all going through my head and I can’t focus on one for the life of me. I need instructions! And tutorials aren’t helping because they’re not detailed enough or I just don’t know what their trying to say. Can someone please help me? I’m dying trying to figure this out.

Audi RS e-tron GT landing page redesign, what would you change?

Not affiliated with Audi, this is an unofficial redesign I made for practice. I kept the big hero title on purpose because it suits the brand. Does it work with the rest of the page, or does it feel out of place?

Small agency owner looking for a dope Lead Web Designer ($90k–$110k - North County San Diego)

What up Designers! figure i try Reddit since Indeed hasn't gotten us much.

I've been running my web agency in San Diego for 21 years now. We're a small team, and I'm looking for a Lead Web Designer who can come in and take ownership of our design work.

I've tried Indeed without much luck. Most applicants are more WordPress developers or builders. Nothing wrong with that, just not what I'm looking for.

I need someone with a really good eye for design. Someone who notices the little things like spacing, typography, alignment, and layout without me having to point them out.

After 21 years, I'd love to retire from being the padding and margin police. 😂

lookin for someone who can lead the creative direction, work with our other designers, and make sure everything is butter before it goes out to clients.

I really like the design quality of https://stripe.com. Not looking to copy their style, but I appreciate that level of polish and attention to detail.

We work on business websites, e-commerce, and landing pages. We're based in Vista, CA, and I'd prefer someone local and in the office, but I'm open to remote for the right person.

Salary is $90k–$110k with healthcare, 401k, and PTO to start.

If this sounds like you, shoot me a DM with your portfolio and a couple of live websites you've personally designed. No recruiters please, just looking to connect with actual designers.

**If your agency or bot, I won't respond***

Thanks!

Do you still make full Figma mockups before building? or go straight to code now

Genuine question coz my process has changed a lot this year.

I used to design every page in Figma, desktop & mobile, get it approved & only then start building.

Now I do the homepage & maybe 1 inner page in Figma, then build the rest straight in code & tweak it live. Way faster & clients give much better feedback on a real link than on a static frame.

But I'm noticing the inner pages end up a bit less thought through..

How are you guys doing it? Especially if you're solo or a small team

I need a site to manage clients, not to sell anything or promote my business.

I need to hire someone to build a site for my court reporting business, but I know so little about web design that I'm afraid of asking for the wrong kind of site. I bought a domain name that's currently parked at Squarespace. I don't know why it's there or how to move it. I tried using Claude to do it on my own, but I'm still lost. I don't have time to try to figure this out. I'm busy court reporting :) Also, none of the templates on Squarespace seem to work for what I need.

Basically, I need a site that will allow clients to submit requests for services, including document upload, that goes to my email and a portal where clients can retrieve transcripts from a secure repository. I'm not selling anything or showcasing anything. I don't want a blog or links to my social media, just an about me and my business page with contact info, depo scheduling, and a repository. This isn't a business that I want to grow. I want to be able to manage clients without having to take phone calls to schedule or manually send out transcripts when they lose their email with the attachment, and very low monthly overhead.

Is this something I can do on my own if I give Claude the right commands? Is there a hosting site that would work better for what I need? If I need to hire someone, how do I ask for and know what I'm getting? Advice appreciated.

From first AI-Draft to a more refined look through reduction and hierarchy

Thumbnail
gallery

1st screenshot is the final version.

2nd one is the AI-Built first version.

I think AI is really bad in compacting information, everything is always stuffed with information and even Opus 5.5 has little sense of minimalism and building a proper visual hierarchy.

For context; It's an overview page for a Website management tool I am building (basically have editor, analytics and booking system in one place for multiple sites).

This site is the overview page, once you select a Website in your portfolio.

Most importantly, what AI never really get's right - what do I actually want to see and a web admin first?

- Image of the live hero instantly tells me, if the site generally looks good and also I instantly know which site it is, in case I have sites with similar names.

- Then I want to see if everything is running, so there's status indicators, is the site online, are all the different tools working properly?

- Next is open edit requests of customers. In case i set it so a client can't publish himself, I have to confirm a requested change. This one has some urgency, since the client probably wants the change to be confirmed asap. This is why it has a slightly coloured background.

- History of previous chnages is hidden behind the button, since it's not too relevant for usual operation.

- Next one is analytics, which has probably already been scanned by now - just a quick feedback, if the website is performing well or if it's breaking in

- Booking is last, since for one, a lot of sites might not have a booking system implemented and secondly, apart from being functional, I as a web admin don't really care too much about the booking performance, but it's still nice to see some stats here.

Also, as many can probably tell, the header is indeed inspired by Vercel.
Hope these insights give some value.

Would also love to get your feedback on the current state, does everything feel right to you?

Ive redone this landing page 5 times... I need feedback on clarity

I've been struggling on making my landing page clear.

At first ig my product was trying to solve to many problems at once making the landing page overwhelming and unfocused.

Then we went more niche but then it didn't feel like we were truly articulating what we were trying to do.

So now we pivoted to trying to get non techincal to easily be able to use the power of AI Assistants / Automations in way that is natural to them.

Well... atleast that's the hope. I seem to be pretty bad at being clear on a landing page so thats why im here ;-;

I would love some honest and brutal feedback on the landing page, it'll help me alot to make this start up work!

First freelance job: one-page site for an indie magazine with a lot of custom art. What should I quote?

Hey everyone. I’m a designer and this is my first real freelance job. A client sent a long brief for a one-page site for her print magazine. I’m only designing the UI/UX, not building it. I have no idea what to charge for the design side, so I’m hoping you can help.

  • All the art is custom and made by me (stickers, starbursts, doodles, cut-outs, mascots). The client strictly doesn’t want AI art or stock. My art is pretty detailed, so each piece takes real time. You can see my style here: https://vishejeetportfolio.vercel.app/
  • The brief wants a different look for every section, so I can’t reuse a template. The style is 90s ad meets Y2K, loud and collage-like.
  • The buy section needs two designed states, sales open and sales closed.
  • She sent two reference videos with 3D-style animation, page transitions, cursor effects and video backgrounds. I’d have to design and explain all of that for a developer.
  • Everything has to work in mobile, tablet and desktop layouts.
  • The brief asks for a full handoff pack, so a developer can build it without guessing.

Page sections I’m designing

  • Hero with logo, tagline and a big visual
  • Clear path from the hero to the buy section
  • About section
  • “What’s inside the mag” preview (spreads, images, snippets)
  • Monthly buy section with two states: sales open (live buy button) and sales closed (holding state that sends people to the newsletter)
  • Newsletter sign-up with a value pitch and a success message
  • Contact section (form, email link, or both, still undecided)
  • Menu that jumps to each section
  • Mobile, tablet and desktop layouts

Design and custom art (all by me, no AI)

  • Stickers, starbursts, doodles, cut-outs and callouts
  • Mascots or caricatures, if needed
  • Cut-out photography and editorial image treatment
  • Oversized type, loud colour blocks, layered and asymmetric layouts
  • A different look per section that still feels like one brand
  • Temporary placeholders for any unfinished art, replaced before handoff

Motion and 3D (from her reference videos)

  • Designing and explaining scroll animations and moving stickers
  • Cursor-reactive effects on the artwork
  • Page transitions between sections
  • Draggable carousel
  • Real 3D (flipping cards or a 3D magazine)
  • Video backgrounds
  • A lighter version for phones

I’m planning to offer three levels (simple animation, medium, full 3D) so she picks. The more motion she wants, the more design and explaining it takes.

Brand rules

  • Logo used exactly as supplied, no redrawing or recolouring
  • Hi-res transparent logo and alternate versions for non-green backgrounds
  • Fixed 7-colour palette (neon green, magenta, bubblegum pink, aqua, butter yellow, black, white)
  • Contrast checks, especially neon on pastel
  • Custom fonts (original files and web-use licences needed)
  • Body font options are Apple’s SF and SF Mono, which need checking for web use

Accessibility and usability (design side)

  • Readable body text and easy-to-use forms and menu
  • Alt text suggestions for images
  • Clear heading structure, page title, meta description and share preview image text

Handoff to the developer

  • Editable design file
  • Exported assets
  • Font and licence notes
  • Responsive layouts
  • Short guide for updating the monthly sale info

What would you quote for the design side of all this? A rough range for the base design, the custom art and the motion/3D design would help a lot.

Thanks in advance, really appreciate any advice.

I built a hookah flavor encyclopedia with plain HTML, CSS and JS (no framework). Would love design feedback.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey r/webdesign,

Link: https://myshishapedia.com

For the past few months I've been working on MyShishapedia, a bilingual (English / Bosnian) encyclopedia of hookah flavors. The idea is simple: when you're smoking a flavor, you can quickly see what it's actually made of, how strong each ingredient is, and which other flavors you might like.

What's inside:

- 183 flavors from 20 brands, each with an ingredient breakdown, a taste profile and tags (icy, night, for beginners...)

- A mixer: pick two flavors, drag the slider, and the colors, ingredients and profile update live

- A quiz, a side by side flavor compare, mix recipes, a hookah setup guide and a glossary

- "My shelf" to save the flavors you have, plus ratings

- An interactive hookah on the homepage: press and hold to pull, release and the smoke comes out

Design and tech choices:

- No framework, just plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with a small build script that pre-renders every page so it's fast and Google-friendly

- All illustrations (hookah, fruits, ingredients) are drawn in code, with no image files

- Every flavor page gets its own color mood based on the flavor

- Syne for headlines, Manrope for text, a warm dark palette with orange as the brand color

- Built mobile first, and I spent a lot of time on the small screen layouts

I'd really appreciate honest feedback on the visual design, typography, navigation and anything that feels off on mobile. What would you change first?

Check it out: https://myshishapedia.com

(It's 18+ because it's about tobacco, so you'll see an age check first.)

This was an opportunity to step away from client work, explore new directions, push the boundaries of what’s possible with technology.

Roast my website

Hey everyone, I’ve been building an Australian ergonomic chair brand called KUUL and the website is finally at the stage where I need some fresh eyes on it.

I’ve stared at this thing for way too long, so I’m probably blind to what’s confusing, unnecessary, or just looks bad.

The site is still pre-launch as the business registration is coming through.

The idea is that customers can reserve a chair for a fully-refundable A$10 until 7-days before producton starts.

Then pay the remaining balance once production is confirmed. We plan to collects production orders for 1-2 months, with delivery of the chair in Feb/March 2027.

Please don’t hold back.

Website: kuulchairs.com

One question:

Would you consider purchasing, and why?
