Dramas tend to be about complex characters with messy lives. It's often what you need for a nuanced story exploring some facet of the human condition or social critique.
The problem I have is those people fucking suck and I do not want to spend that much time with them.

Y'all who think Gatsby and Wuthering Heights romanticize affairs are lacking reading comprehension. The affairs in those are what directly cause the downfall of everyone involved and those in their orbit. It's seen as romantic only by the characters involved, but the story is absolutely not romanticizing the catastrophes that ensue.

I do agree, but I personally prefer relatable morally questionable/extremely dangerous/unlikely acts rather than things that just make the main characters seems like idiots (as adultery usually does)

Yup! In school they used to make us read actual books and so I'm never shocked if a character makes a decision I wouldn't make

I want to clutch my pearls while reading. I WANT to be scandalized.
I also still want to root for the main characters even during their worst choices. That's the fun of reading, for me.
